I couldn't pass on this even if it's wrong - picked it up for cheap (45 bucks). I'm new to the 4 speed scene and was told this is for an internally balanced 340 (I have a 70) ... I see it appears neutral balanced - was I told correctly ? When resurfaced, if it checks out neutral , it's a bolt on...

So it's not the detent ball , all other balls look present and accounted for so , guess it was from "back in the day" .............

That was a thought but didn't know if it's too small for being the detent ball - was trying to avoid pulling the valve body if not necessary. If it were missing , wouldn't I be able to tell when shifting between positions ? I'm thinking it may relate to past repairs , dunno .............

Was replacing the gasket - found this mangled ball bearing (?). Only drove the car once a short distance before resto started, didn't notice an issue, shifter a little sloppy, that's about it. Appears trans was rebuilt not long ago as fresh RTV all around ..........

I've seen (on the internet) crank pulleys painted blue and black - which is correct ? I believe WP pulleys are black , but .............

Yep - threaded for sure - according to my (too late) research , 73 was threaded and 74 was press , who'da thunk. I'm thinking I can use the press fit ones I have but haven't got the LCA's back yet to see how the fit is ....... my own fault for not paying attention (they were pretty gunked up so...

I know the LCA's are wasted as far as the threads - other than that they are structurally sound - I have read that ball joints can be welded in. This is my question , I know it's done more often on GM's as they're all press in and can have loose fits. Not concerned about the future of the LCA -...

GTS - what paint did you use on the exhaust manifolds ? Holding up ?

Before I reinstall - is it possible to do a visual inspection of the tranny and identify condition ? It seemed fine the few times I drove it before resto started , just be nice to know all appears well .............

I'd go POR if I thought the pint kit would do the whole engine.

Rustoleum doesn't make a Mopar blue engine paint - and I can't find the code to have any mixed (73 340), I suppose they could match up if I take in a valve cover (or "borrow" a can of Duplicolor).

I'm good with this - as I said , I degreased with oven cleaner (which removed some of the paint) then purple degreaser, etc. Just needed to know if the paint that wasn't removed will be fine or can I blast or strip or ?

This engine's been completely degreased - I'm concerned about remnants of the old paint but ain't sure best way to strip - I'll be removing the intake, exhaust mans, valve covers, maybe oil pan but it ain't leaking now so.......... anyway, any tips ? Good quality paint ? Best exhaust manifold...

That much I know .... but I'm on a tight budget ....

I got all my asst parts blasted and I need to paint. Not a trailer queen, what do you guys recommend for paint ? What about parts that are supposed to be "natural" steel - is there a good (durable) cast look paint or should I bother ? Clearcoats ? Thanks.

10-4 ...... did one years ago. Some have said they have issues (walking/moving) but obviously they sell 'em. I'd go with old school complete with shells - but again, would need to find someone I could trust with a press. The only difference I can see is the Moog and OEM style have the rubber...

So my question - no issues with re-using (or leaving in place) the outer shells ,and replacing only the rubber/poly bushing/inserts ?

Are the replacement poly bushings for upper/lower control arms decent for a non-daily driven car ? I am referring to the bushings wherein you replace the rubber only and re-use the shells/outer liners. Obviously they've sold thousands but I've not used them , always had an old-school mechanic...

With the engine out - I need to start prepping the bay but need to clean up suspension/K frame, etc while here. It's thick build-up of grime - like 1/4 inch in areas. Someone said I needed a "truck pressure wash", I'm thinking about using one of those sandblast/pressure washer attachments. Oven...

Yep - pretty sure it's a 72 spec motor. Odd that the block is stamped 70 and serials reflect April of 71 build. Also motor is blue to the bone , no hints of orange anywhere. Guess I'll live with it for now - need to get back on my Dart and will probably sell the Roadrunner to finance the Dart...
