A 4150 Holley 1050 DID NOT flow nearly as well as a 1050 Dominator on my friend's Wet flow Carb Bench. I have no explaination on how Holley could rate them the same except if the have different standard that they go by?

David Vizard - Which to prioritize - PORT FLOW or PORT VELOCITY?

Allegedly stock ports. Well, they DO check @ stock runner CCs specification if not configuration. I better leave it at that!

David Vizard - Which to prioritize - PORT FLOW or PORT VELOCITY?

The short turn radius is what has bite us in the *** more than any other area!!

David Vizard - Which to prioritize - PORT FLOW or PORT VELOCITY?

Often, We have gotten Greedy on the ports in both the heads and intake and the turbulence has not only wiped out any gains but really cost me power on the Dyno and on the Track! I have turned some extremely good parts into only so/so stuff.

David Vizard - Which to prioritize - PORT FLOW or PORT VELOCITY?

Port Turbulence is a important component that is often overlooked

My experience with a dominator on a dual plain were not very successful even on a Big block. The 440 engine in my Valiant is only a 500HP high 10 Second combo. It was not any slower but not any faster than a 950HP Holley and the drivability was worse!

Identify coating on my 273 rocker arms

I would not guess DLC as I am looking at it? Dark "Cacao" Chocolate is a possibility.

    And go....

Agreed. However, I do not believe they make anything but roller Lifters and not any flat tappets whatsoever.

    273 Rocker on 340

I ran them on race cars 50 years ago with up to 550/570 Lift. They clear 1.47 spring with no grinding. Do not get crazy on the grinder as they tend to crack pretty easy around oil hole. Another issue is that the interference adjuster tended to loosen every 10/20 runs. I spot faced the rockers...

    Torque plates

How round the cylinder is makes a hell of a lot more an issue with ring seal than a thou or two in the ring gap does at least in our shop!

    Torque plates

On our race engines (Especially Small Block Mopars) not only do we use a Deck Plate but we home the blocks at the water temperature that we actually stage the race cars at. Does it make a measurable difference? I do not know but we sure do get our feet wet a lot and go thru a lot of Socks.

340 Oil Priming Question First Start

No Oil pressure reading is fine. Oil only goes to rockers in a few certain positions of the engine rotation. Rotate it a bit at a time as Myron said in post #2. He knows these engines as well as anyone I know!

Finally have this set of 2.08 Edelbrock heads done.

We run the LS Springs exclusively on our small block stockers. We must run stock spring height and if there is any challenge it is getting the spring pressure low enough on our 318 Stockers with real Hydraulic lifters. I do not like to see very much over 200 on the seat.
  21. G

318 with Edelbrok perfomer intake and 600 cfm 4 barrel, what headers please?

If you decide on headers stick to 1 5/8 size on your combo.

First time in the shop working on back to back days in probably over 2 months

I have several different height stools by the work bench. I spend most of the time on one or another!

    Valve Spring Estimated Delivery

I have had good experiences with Isky springs. 3105 I believe is what I used on small blocks.

    1974 340?

You can pick up a pair of calibers that work well at Harbor Freight or similar place for a very low investment compared to a set of Mics. I always bring then parts hunting! They have saved me numerous blunders!

    1974 340?

    Did you measure the bore?

    Are 340’s rare

As a lot of you gentleman know, I race all the small blocks in Stock/SS. The 318 has smaller main caps and unless you replace them (Pricey), I have broken several when much over 400HP in a drag racing application. The 340 Heads flow better than the 360 Heads unless you spend a lot on money on...

Big Valve X Heads on Low Comp 72 340

Thanks for the Kind Words. I could never even hope to be a thousand of the witness that Paul was. Even thou he was a fabulous witness he said = "My righteousness is just like filthy rags". Except for the Blood of Jesus my plight would be absolutely hopeless. Son of David = Have mercy on your...

Big Valve X Heads on Low Comp 72 340

The X heads are 894 number. They do flow a bit better stock and chambers are bit better aligned to block. However, on a stock low compression 340 you will never feel the difference in performance. I have done extensive research and testing on these different heads for 50 years. If you gained...
