    Uh, NOPE

The other day I got the 72 Dart ready for anytime driving duty since it has always been registered and insured but almost never driven. I noticed a miss that wasn’t there before and tracked it down by inserting a test light between the wires and caps on the distributor. Yep, cylinder number 5. I...

66 Barracuda going up for sale in PA. NOT MINE

Not mine, but a friend of the Wife. Facebook Offer up And maybe here if she takes the Wife’s advice. Getting rid of the car because she’s constantly dealing with “**sholes hitting her up everywhere she goes.” Sorry, this is all I know.

    Anyone see this yet?

Chrysler heirs making a deal to buy back the company. The implications could be interesting.

    From a drive yesterday.

Yesterday was a perfect windows down drive day, as it was overcast all day.

Hard time keeping my mitts off.

This 72/318/904 Dart is very nearly completely stock, and I’m having a hard time keeping my hands off it. It’s so tempting to do a 4 barrel, dual exhaust, headers, subframe connectors and custom wheels. No no no, keep your frikin hands off dummy. My more sensible inner voice keeps me from it.

    Learning a whole nother habit

Now that my car has AC I have to have the idle rpm a little higher. Problem is when I shut the engine off it tends to “run on” for a few cylinder fires, which I really don’t like because it’s hard on cam gears and such. (Especially when the engine kicks backwards) I realize there is idle...

    A blessing or a curse?

Today’s car guys have tons of resources that we didn’t have back then. AND the parts and pieces we did get were of good quality. Nowadays we can get about anything online, but a lot of it is just expensive garbage. Kinda miss the old days where we scrounged around for something that would work...

    The Lucky Kid

Pretty much all my life if I wanted something it showed up before long. Doesn’t work with money though, I have tried. So we had a motorhome trailer, dirt bikes and such for the kids and I and we used to go for 2-5 day camping and riding. Wife used to ride but gave it up. Kids grew up, got jobs...

    Hey Del

@67Dart273 Good morning. The instructions for the Classic Auto Air system says to connect both power leads to switched ignition. The system apparently draws up to 20 amps. I want to take that load off my key switch with a relay direct to the battery and realize I probably need a continuous use...

    Holy Crap, Hot.

I couldn’t even imagine living in a place like this. 101 at my place today at 5000 feet.

    Holy crap, 7 dollars?

Interesting nostalgia. The body damage estimator is quite the gimmick.

    Oops

This is what happens when you use a Napa MO3000 rotor and don’t get your distributor cap back on exactly straight. :D The MO3000 rotor has a 030 longer tip.

    Real estate question.

A property in a highly desirable location in wine country California. Locals are willing to make a competitive offer and avoid a possible commercial buyer coming in. Through an agent the final closing costs could be in the 50k range all said and done. Considering the desirability of the...

    UPDATE on the trashed shackles

From my other post, this is where my rattle was coming from. Betcha I don’t break these. 1/4 x 1-1/2 plate and 1/2 shank bolts with nyloc nuts. The bolts have the heads cut off and welded into the holes in the plate. I used 1-1/2 plate because the poly bushings have a 1-1/2 outer section...

I was checking on a rattle on the right rear.

Yep, that would do it.:D Factory hangers and poly bushing. They even had factory lock nuts on them. Some even the pressed in stud gave up. Jees, both sides.

UPDATE on the failed Acell ignition module.

In my first post about the Acell 8 pin HEI module I said how I connected it and my car ran like crap, so I had to pull off the side of the hiway and put the original one back on. Car ran great again. I called Holley because that’s who I bought it through. First they transfered me to a Holley...

FAIL right out of the package.

On May 27 I ordered a new Accel HEI module from Holley. There was no Accel sticker on it like the picture on the website, which isn’t a problem but a ? Supposed to be a high performance module. Yesterday I put it in and this morning I went out to go to the store. Car fired up fine, but it soon...

    Remember this car?

We picked this car up locally awhile back, running but barely. It ate its cam but the people kept driving it until the metal of the cam basically ground up the the entire motor. Well my bud Mike was replacing the perfectly fine lightly modded 318 in his 71 Dart with a 440 so had no use for the...

Used up over half of my bad words.

So the other day I mentioned being bored, so I decided to go to the local Pick a Part just to see if there was anything interesting. When I pulled into the parking lot some guys big *** dog ran over and jumped up on my drivers door and stuck his head in my window. I friggin lost it. Not the end...

    Where to go next?

I have been getting in the habit of driving the Dart to a different destination each weekend. One day (doesn’t matter which) and take off for the day. Possible destinations are getting shorter these days since I have been to most of them within 200 miles. Kind of thinking ghost towns as...

    I’m freekin bored.

Nothing but bars around here, and I don’t drink or even enjoy being around drunk people. There are a few night time car get togethers in Phoenix, but that is an hour and a half drive one way. I like driving at night on lit multi lane freeways with the windows down, but nothing like that around...

Music is a pretty big deal.

My current head unit is playing not so funny games. One day I noticed a battery drain over the course of 2-3 days and found that the memory function of the unit was causing it. The memory wire of the unit is supposed to be connected to full time 12v, but it was bleeding power over to the head...

    FYI on motors that smoke

I see frequently someone mention that a motor smokes on startup, and everyone jumps right to bad rings or valve stem seals. Neither may actually be the case and I will tell you why. For one, a cylinder/s that misfire suck oil up through the rings and dump that oil right into an exhaust system...

    I hate BMW’s

Gotta take this off, so I can remove that, and be able to fix something that is actually the problem. That and it seems like every fastener takes a different tool. Good machines if you don’t have to work on em.

    Did you know?

There is a distributor rotor for the factory style Mopar distributor that can help with wear and corrosion of the rotor tip and cap terminals. Napa part number MO3000 rotor is .030 longer at the tip. The shorter spark jump distance wears the parts less. You REALLY need to make sure your cap is...
