Nicks Garage, 572 HEMI, Here we go....

All I know is that the distributor is the one out of the 572. All Nick had to do to get it started was get the engine turning over with the starter button and then once turning hit the separate ignition button. No need to turn the timing back to get it running and then re-adjust timing. J.Rob

SBE 318 basic rebuild +CAM , INTAKE, HEADS, expectations?

Here's the problem as I see it....You're gonna do all that and "let it rip" and when it doesn't "rip" you will suddenly see all of your time/$$$ and efforts in vain. At least that's what I went through. J.Rob

    440 Pistons, How F*cked am I

Sure...semantics, ya got me-lol. That's like me saying wipe your bores down with a lint free cloth, not Kleenex and you saying "Well actually Kleenex makes lint free cloth wipes". J.Rob

Magnaflux only works on ferrous materials. Aluminum is this two part dye method that doesn't work all that great for a beginner. J.Rob

??? Never said I had any pistons relating to this thread. J.Rob

    440 Pistons, How F*cked am I

Looks like you had the whole assembly in a glass bead cabinet. I'd work on making sure I had every last bit of abrasive out of that pin bore or you're pressing all of the pistons off anyways. J.Rob

    440 Pistons, How F*cked am I

I'd clean it up and use it, here's why: 1. You just said it was for yourself. 2. I've done worse when I was young and had no $$$...Ran excellent 3. A different piston will more than likely be a vastly different weight 4. Different piston? Now you need to press it off properly and get the...

Only gonna say one more thing on this in light of the latest episode. So Nick successfully fires and tests a Ford FE dual quad side oiler that he didn't build and knows nothing about....but can't get a dual quad Hemi he didn't build fired and tested.....Okay then. J.Rob p.s. If he had opened...

Before the total revamp and with a lot of effort with the S.S. Crossram intake it made 670HP. The customer said he would be happy if it made a solid 700hp. First test was something like 708hp and between a little AFR tweaks and with the correct timing curve it made the 734hp with no air cleaners...

No meat!? The goal is now 800hp, which should provide much more interesting content soon! OK maybe not soon but eventually. J.Rob

You are not wrong, sorry I missed your post. I dunno, after seeing how he has so many HEMIS (HEMI HEAVEN) on the go, we may not see a conclusion to this. There was a video of a 572 HEMI that came In at his plave With a dropped valve...is there a video conclusion to that one? J.Rob

Nicks Garage, 572 HEMI, Here we go....

He's got a shot at it but if he keeps the cam and makes 1 wrong move..+ his dyno is conservative (which he just proved different)...well...we will see. He doubts 734hp with an intake he has never seen + my buddies carbs are seriously magic, but 2 ELDABRAWCKS on an ELDABRAWCK manifold will get...

Yeah those exhaust ports were like that when I began work on those heads. I deemed the intake valve size and repaired the intake ports to be adequate. I also assessed the ultra raised exhaust ports as I knew where and whom these heads came from....figured they make mondo torque without spending...

He's got a shot @ 800hp now that he's keeping the cam, new heads, but for me his dual quad intake may be borderline. J.Rob

Nicks Garage, 572 HEMI, Here we go....

He hates the intake because of 3 reasons. 1. He knows who bult it. 2. He has never had a Mopar Marine 2x4 4160 intake before him and has no idea how good it actually is. (800hp...NO...amazing manners AND driveability...yes) 3. He wants to showcase his HEMI prowess Human nature dictates that...

I will create a post tomorrow outlining more about the previous owners intent and the previous builders intent---yes I am the 2nd builder and this will make Nick the 3rd to turn wrenches on it. Should clear a few things up. In the meantime if you don't know what the Dunning-Kruger effect...

Nicks Garage, 572 HEMI, Here we go....

I'm sure it was a "Hey we gotta pull the heads because for some reason the head gaskets that were'nt leaking the first time we "ran" it with the distributor 180 out, are now leaking so while we are there lets do a cam swap!" In other words a snowball effect. J.Rob

Looks like we will, Nick has it torn down on his Instagram channel while on the dyno--looks like they want to swap cams or something. J.Rob

    Here's an interesting dyno shootout 160 cfm head on a 306, 333 & 393.

Haven't watched it but 2.06HP/CFM seems to be the sweet spot at least for me. Those HP levels you quoted are not impressive at all. While I agree its interesting it just isn't any kind of mystery in my eyes. J.Rob

Just took a peak at the next largest Hemi Nick has ever tested. 528 made 610HP/660TQ which is 1.15 HP/CI and 1.25 TQ/CI. 572 made 734HP/724TQ (on my dyno) which is 1.28 HP/CI and 1.26 TQ/CI. Applying the same factors as the 572 would have the 528 @ 675 HP and 665 TQ. Come to think of it I wish...
