    New setup- 340 based 416, 360 based 387, or 360 based 408?

Agree, but...... I'd prefer the kit for the rod upgrade and the extra cubes are just a bonus.

    340 or 408?

Since we're ''off the rails'' and not many 500 plus streetable 340 builds around, why not just copy and paste one of these to a SBM.....:) https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/0811chp-327-small-block-chevy-engine-build/

    340 or 408?

''I'd look at 11/1 compression , I'd port my current eddy heads and Victor intake and obviously go Roller cam with more lift and duration'' This.....on the 340. Nuff said.

    .480/230 cam in an 8.5 CR 360?

I doubt the OP is looking for a street killer with his 65'. His original setup with a little bit of cam advance, and a good tune will make a nice street cruiser that sounds good. And probably run some 14's if he really feels the need to lean on it. Yep, i'm one of the old guys that have made...

    .480/230 cam in an 8.5 CR 360?

It's a young rebuild so why did you tear it down... Advance the cam, throw as much initial timing that it will take, a duel plane int. would be a must and the shortest tires that still look decent. At least it will drivable and sure sound good. :)

    273 adjustable rockers to stamped.

As long as those rockers are in good shape, keep what you have. I prefer a light preload...something in the .020/.040 range. Once set, you'll have many miles of trouble free driving.

318LA/906 SBE build it OR go Big block?

How long since it last ran. Forget the 440 for now. Try and get what you have running to see where your at. Trans and brake operation, the entire fuel system, electronics, etc. You may find your ''budget'' wont go as far as you think. JMO

    Stock .318 upgrade!

Don't beat urself up on that. That's a beauiful vert. Not worried about big power, no problem. :)

    Stock .318 upgrade!

No...Imo, if that carb is in good shape, that's a great price. Keep in mind, the stock 318 cam is all done at 5k, so it would be a fine upgrade for what you have now.

    HP gains?

I think i'd just drive it and enjoy it. If you only have access to the 1/8th mile, you'll only be trapping in the low to mid 5's and that mph wont give a true hp number. I'm not familiar with your car, but it's capable of 130 plus in the qtr, and that may open up another can of worms with tech.

    HP gains?

With peak tq around 5k it looks like you have enough cam to realize some decent gains.

    318 Internal Vacuum Leak?

Make sure the throttle cable isn't holding it open. Easy check, just remove the linkage from the TB.

    Carb Advice

How far out are your idle mixture screws. A decent tuned Holley should be no more then 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 out max. If out more then two, you surely have a air leak somewhere near the baseplate. And as i said earlier, make sure your running enough initial timing.

360 stalls on deceleration from throttle blip

Just a thought, depending on how hard you're hitting the throttle, you may have too high of a float setting in the carb.

    Carb Advice

I agree. Since your running quality fuel, have you looked into advancing the timing a bit. That may cure your starting and idle issues.

    Stroker 340>416 Build Advice

First off, don't worry about the .700 lift numbers. I'd be concerned about the 104 cl vs a 2k cruise rpm. That said, keeping your current exhaust, i think you'd be plenty happy with 250ish at .050, low 600'' or so lift cut on a 110/112 cl. With cam availability these days, it may require a...

I'm assuming a mild build, so if the flat tops are stock and the compression is low, the Summit 6900 is my first choice for value. DODGE Summit Racing SUM-6900 Summit Racing™ Classic Camshafts | Summit Racing If by chance the pistons have a decent comp height, with a little more comp, this...

    La318 cylinder head question

Being in the 120lb range, i think you may be happy with the 318 heads. If you have a big port intake currently, don't let that discourage you, it will be fine with the right gaskets.

    La318 cylinder head question

Not sure if AJ went here or not, but...... If it's not disassembled yet, do a compression test on the other cylinders. Might give a indication of what your working with.
