Does This Debunk the "Coolant Can Flow Through the Radiator Too Fast" Idea???

Duh! You're right. I know better than that. Is it too late for me to delete that so nobody will know I made that bonehead mistake!:eek::eek:

Does This Debunk the "Coolant Can Flow Through the Radiator Too Fast" Idea???

That brings up an interesting point I had not thought about before. Why not just put a very slightly larger pulley on the water pump. For instance, going from a 6" pulley to a 6 1/8" pulley gives you a circumference increase of 1.19" (a 4.2% increase). Wouldn't that make the pump spin a bit...

Does This Debunk the "Coolant Can Flow Through the Radiator Too Fast" Idea???

I kind of thought that a little too as I read it. I mean, after all, they are going to do and say everything to push their product. However, from a scientific standpoint, what they are saying does make sense. I never really bought into the thought that you had to SLOW the flow down through the...

    Thermostat gasket leaking AGAIN!!!!

I had the same problem when I installed an Edelbrock Air Gap and a chrome thermostat housing. No matter what I did, it leaked. Then I bought a Billet Specialties polished aluminum part with an O ring. Hasn't leaked a drop in years.

Does This Debunk the "Coolant Can Flow Through the Radiator Too Fast" Idea???

I know this topic has been beaten to death here. I just really liked the way the referenced article explained it. I personally never believed the story about water needing to flow through the radiator slower. You are also leaving it in the hot engine block longer.

Does This Debunk the "Coolant Can Flow Through the Radiator Too Fast" Idea???

There is a thread on FABO now about a thermostat gasket leaking. One contributor mentioned that he installed a Flowcooler high flow water pump and his leak started then. I had never heard of Flowcooler High Flow water pumps, so I went to their website. I read the "Common Questions about High...

    Griifin

I bought a Griffin Exact Fit Radiator for my 69 340 Barracuda about 12 years ago. When I called Griffin for pre-purchase information, a guy told me that their Exact Fit radiators looked so much like Mopar radiators that some people painted them black and 'passed them off' as original. I bought...

    Thermostat and housing

I bought the same Air Gap manifold for my 340. It leaked also. I tried everything I could think of. I bought a new housing (turned out to be cheap Chinese junk that was never going to seal), new gaskets, and different sealers. I wound up buying a Billet Specialties housing with an O-ring similar...

Pls recommend source for full AC system for non-AC 1971 5.2 L Duster

I have a Classic Auto Air Exact Fit setup in my 69 Barracuda. It works great. I put it in myself about 15 years ago.

    Heater core test ?

You are forgetting the obvious. Just hook the heater hoses up and see if it leaks!:rofl: Seriously though, heater cores are not that difficult to replace if your car does not have AC. You could easily do it in one weekend. @oldkimmer is right. You could be flushing a bunch of crap into...

How long did it take you to rebuild your

I agree with @ESP47 when he says it is easy and not to farm the job out. I have done several heater/AC boxes, and they are easy. That being said, I have never been able to do one in 4-5 bours, but I have always done a complete restoration on them, and there was usually some damage. Like...

    Would you paint aluminum radiator?

This is a very old post, But I can answer this question. I have a Griffin Perfect Fit radiator in my 69 Barracuda. It has a very stock look to it. I painted it black with Eastwood's Radiator Paint, and it looks good. I ran it for a while unpainted but did not like the look. I noticed no...

    Which AC/heat system and why?

I don't see why that would not work fine. My belt goes around three pulleys, one of which is adjustable (the manual idler pulley). Yours will also go around three pulleys also, one of which is adjustable (the PS pulley). I'd be fine with that.

    Which AC/heat system and why?

I would have to look at their instructions, what their kit has now could be different than the kit I had many years ago. Let me show you and tell you what I have. I posted two pictures for you. When I bought my kit, they asked me what engine I had, and sent me specific brackets and an extra...

    Which AC/heat system and why?

I have Classic Auto Air in my 69 Barracuda. It works great. It uses my controls after I modify them a bit. Their instructions have been updated. They used to be really crappy. If you have any questions, their tech people are only a phone call away. I put the system in about 15 years ago, and it...

1973 Dodge Dart Sport No Heat.

@Syleng1 gives good advice. If water is flowing through the heater, core properly, which it sounds like it is since both heater hoses are getting hot, that will remove the heater core as a suspect. Then it comes down to some of the other suggestions, as for cables, or possibly a vacuum operated...

    Anyone use these electric fans?

I don't really know what the CFM rating was. It's been a long time. But I bet you are right in saying I probably didn't have enough. Griffin does make a good radiator, but I did not care for the fan setup.

Sorry, but what is a "Contour Setup? I don't really see much in this picture.

    Anyone use these electric fans?

Excellent point. I actually worded that poorly. Thanks for pointing that out. Here is what really happened. About 20 years ago I needed a new radiator. After a lot of research, I went with a Griffin Radiator. The salesman talked me into their custom built fan/shroud setup also. It was rather...

    Anyone use these electric fans?

FYI, I tried a rather expensive electric fan setup with very poor results. I know there are going to be a lot of people who say that they use them with great efficiency, but they did not work well for me. I eventually trashed the setup and replaced it with a stock shroud and pulley driven fan.

Help with Heater & AC Control Assembly

OK, @Mopar Virgin, I see the confusion. The fan switch is not a dial. It is a lever that clicks a few stops to the right and a few stops to the left. You can call it a dial if you want to.
  23. harrisonm

Help with Heater & AC Control Assembly

I still don't see a dial. You posted 2 pictures; one in #5 and one in #7. Both of them had lever style controls for both the fan switch and the temp/mode controls. What are you calling the dial?
  24. harrisonm

Help with Heater & AC Control Assembly

How is that a "dial"? Those heater controls are EXACTLY the same as my 69 Barracuda, and I put a CAA AC kit in mine. If you follow the instructions carefully (It looks like they finally updated them), your current non-AC controls will work great. Don't bother jury rigging a fix around it...

    Billet Specialties Thermostat Housing?

I totally agree. I was not having problems with a stock housing. I thought since I bought a nice new Air Gap manifold, I would buy a nice chrome plated one. That is when my problems started. Chinesium junk.

    Billet Specialties Thermostat Housing?

I did the same thing. It was only about $45 or $50 when I got it about 6 years ago. I installed an Edelbrock Air Gap and chased leaks for months. I tried several brands of gaskets with and without various types of sealants and adhesives, and it still leaked. I tried block sanding the mounting...

Cold Case or Griffin radiator in a 1970 Duster?

Made in the USA! I have the griffin exact fit on my 69 Barracuda. I painted it black with Eastwood's radiator paint, and it looks a LOT like a factory radiator. It works fine.

Classic Auto Air in 67 Barracuda Factory Non AC

Well, based on my personal experience, they would put those instructions in the poop can. As mentioned before, I spent HOURS drafting a multi-page document that pointed out all the mistakes / unclear text in their instructions and mailed it to them. I clearly told them that if they rewrote the...
