    Too Hot

Heat transfer happens is at the junction of the tubes to the fins, if it is not connected/soldered no heat is transfered except for the minimal amount from the tube itself to the air.

    API oil

Here is a nice video about blending oils for specific applications. IMO if you have a race engine or a non catalyzed street/strip car you shouldn’t be using an API rated oil. The video says why.

Are there any experienced beer drinkers here?

I used to be a beer drinker but I switched to bourbon and rye a few years ago. Coors Light was the favorite back in the late 70's and 80's. It was crisp and clean back then when the Coors family brewed it. I still enjoy a nice craft beer from a cool brewery an hour away. Oatmeal stouts are a...

    74 Duster/ 5.7 swap questions

Ok, I’ll pull the column back out and take that square coupler off, and trim that tube as well. Weird tho, the tube isn’t contacting the valve cover? I’ll trim it either way, cuz soon as I say that, it’ll hit it hahaha. Thanks for the info guys! I was curious if I’d have to use that style of...

    74 Duster/ 5.7 swap questions

Have you trimmed outter column tube to clear the valve cover? At any rate, yes, you need to do away with the factory coupler. I used a small I joint coupler from the local dirt track supply. Speedway Steering U-Joint, 3/4-36 Spline to 3/4 In Weld-On

Driveshaft length using 1350 transmission and pinion yoke?

I’ve had them short enough I had to take the ujoint caps off to get the drive line in. That’s ok on a 4 link drag car but that’s a bit long for a car that will see public roads and parking lots.

EFI is most of the longevity mostly because most people were tuning their stuff like they change oil. Not often enough. As for wear if you use a good oil and tune up your induction wear is no different. If you aren’t doing it you don’t know. So I guess the question is have you seen this wear?

    74 Duster/ 5.7 swap questions

Question for you guys, as I’ve been buying parts and stuff isn’t working out well on my swap. About my car, it started out as a 6 cylinder car. Person I got it from modified the motor mounts to work with a set made for v8 converting. They were spool style I purchase a set of Holley mounts, but...

Driveshaft length using 1350 transmission and pinion yoke?

That means their a tad long. The stock 48 5/8 seems to me quite adequate. Granted I will have more insertion with their measurement. Just so long I can get it in.

Power vs longevity. We used to valve grind @ 60 - 80k mi. Re-ring ~100 - 120k mi. Leaded gas, ~180* thermostat. Now we often get 200k with oil changes only. Unleaded fuel, ~ 200* thermostat. No question motor oil and metallurgy has come a long way .

Slant 6 engine ignition timing stays retarded.

5 deg Atdc is retarded, you want to have it 0 to 5 to 10 Btdc so it's advanced. If you are trying to set it per factory spec (67 dart 273 with CAP calls for 5 Atdc) it will probably run like a turd. 0 = 5 advanced over factory 5 = 10 advanced over factory I typically run 0 to 5 advanced as...
