73 Swinger Power Steering Header Nightmare!

Do you know how easy it is to drop the column out of that car? There are three small nuts at the cradle, 2 screws at the floorplate and a pin in the coupler. Plus two wire couplers. and a quick-pin/cotter-pin if column-shifted I think 10 minutes should cover it. Pull the starter as well. If the...

Power steering gear box leaks (pictures)

From 1972 -1976 I must have replace 100 or so of these on Hillsborough County Sheriffs cars. They were all Coronets. I used a tinny sharpened flat head screw driver and drove it between the outer seal area and the housing and just pried the seals out. Never damaged a sel housing. Of course this...

No need to remove that pin, pop a couple clips and the column just about falls apart. I even did mine with the coupler still attached (C-Body with heat shield) Alan

    Coupler pin removal

This afternoon I am going to start to take things apart so tht I can replace the lower column (engine compartment side) seal. No seal allows tons of hot air to travel up the column jacket into the car. The 65 service manual (for my 65 barracuda) shows a pinch bolt on the coupler at the...

Drive out the pin from the opposite side. That hole is tapered. The coupler also may have the tiny safety pin in the side.

Getting steering coupler down last half inch

The splines are interrupted by the cutaway for the pin. I would have a binding problem when the coupler was to start on e the second splines. I found I could put a stack of shop manuals in the drivers seat under the steering wheel to hold the column up closer to aligned, then wiggle the heck out...

    Classic Industries manual box

I was going to order the PST manual box, but their shipping to Canada is very high (not their fault), so I found a 16:1 manual box from Classic Industries on the bay. All in shipped was less than before shipped price from PST so I gave it a shot. Arrived yesterday. It is aluminum and weighs...

    steering column rebuild

On the pin at the coupler end of the shaft there’s no need to remove it unless it’s worn or damaged. The lock plate wheel can be removed by removing the pin then the shaft will come out the bottom end of the column tube. There is a service tool that will press the pin out for removal of the lock...

    Steering coupler

That is correct. The Valiant was the Barracuda in all aspects except the front grill and rear window. There were running changes on how the thing was held on: bolt, roll pin, allen set screw....The thing is to get the shoes in for minimal/no play. Her eis a great write up including the 13/16...

    B & C body 360 manifolds

Looking for a solid answer on fit of this style B/C body exhaust manifold in an early A (driver's side): I keep seeing them referenced in discussions, but early A threads keep getting polluted with later A info that does not apply, and I have never actually seen any of these in use. The first...

    1963 Steering Coupler Wear parts

Are the wear parts of the old '63 steering coupler with the bolt instead of the roll pin the same? If I buy a rebuild kit for the '66 and up will the sliders and pin within the coupler work on the '63 (as well as the seal and cover clamp)? Thanks, Jim

How to remove steering coupler without damaging it

Tap tap tap. You may need to unbolt the column and pull it up for clearance. The coupler will come apart easily. It should probably be rebuilt anyway.

    Steering coupler basic questions

The hole on the left is a drift pin, the hole on the right is an index mark. Drive out the drift pin and the coupler will slide off.

    Steering coupler

My coupler is similar to the one you pictured, but it does not use a dowel nor a roll pin. The original shoes and springs consisted of two shoes (square) and two springs, seal and retainer (cover). I bought the repair kit that contained the parts that are shown in your exploded view, however the...

1969 Dodge Dart Swinger clean up

Simple brake system with no valves, so time to let gravity do her thing to bleed the rear brakes. I always like a loop up to the frame to show that the air is coming out. Here come the bubbles... Nothing but fluid now and considering I have the wheel cylinder pistons pressed right in it's...

    What is this piece?

That piece is a steering coupler clamp that helps ensure the top doesn't come off the steering coupler. The side you are holding fits over the cap where the orange seal is and the two ends go into the hole where the roll pin in just out of site on the right side of the picture.

    You Guys Rock!!!

Steering Coupler Rebuild "How To" When I rebuilt my coupler I also replaced the bottom seal that's on the early Barracudas. To get the seal on the pin had to be pressed out. The thing was tight!! The rest of the coupler rebuild is pretty straightforward... except for trying to get the dust...

Steering coupler..how do I get the thing back together ?

I do the following. be sure to use a lot of lube pulling the parts in the coupler. The spring clip, if used, goes on last. The gear box is mounted in the K frame. The coupler is mounted on the steering column then slide the column through the hole in the firewall, lining up the notch in the...
