Slant 6 engine ignition timing stays retarded.

FYI On the small block Ds the reluctor is made universal by having two avalable slots, one for CW rotation and the other for CCW rotation. I can't imagine the six-vane slanty being machined like that, but I suppose looking wouldn't hurt. And Since that unit looks brand new, who knows if the...

Please Help Me - Posting for my 70 year old grandfather

Best answer is to have a good local upholstery shop make them. The kind you buy ready-made, from whatever vendor, is just never going to be as good in terms of quality, fit, durability, etc. Especially not since the market is dominated by Chinese con artists (and American con artists, too)...

Stop in for a cup of coffee

I got back from the bike race track. Andy's bicycling club is sponsoring a "Twisted Cross" bike race next weekend. He (oldest son) and I rode the course, he was on a bike and I was on my JD rider. It took about a half hour at lawn mower speeds. I am helping get ready and I will help mow the race...

Oops...I Did It Again (brake hone)

I don't deglaze my lifter bores , Rusty, I run a few passes of the stone hone to check for irregularities in the cyl walls, any tight spots, scuff, gouges, that'd lose oil pressure, or tighten up with temp. Never lost a lifter/lobe yet, found lotsa bores needing dressing or bushing tho. I'll...

Putting up a shop in CA - fire department being a pain

^^^^If one things doesn't kill me...then something else will!! I learned that over my 76 years on this Earth. All the rural Mo. (37 years there) house fires I saw were total losses, and like he said, IF you can't get out om your own, you are dead. Just life on the sticks. Like if a big...

how to tell if the distributor drive gear is installed correctly?

...a factory correct orientation of the drive slot for a correctly oriented drive tang. On some of the Chinese distributors the drive tang is like 90* different from the factory, which then orients the rotor that far out, if the drive slot is correctly oriented. None of this matters if the...

I've said before, I'm not at all impressed by legendary and have noticed lately that many people I talk to about their nice stuff say that just had them done by reputable local shops.

    Footbrake racing

I loved my transbrake, tho I raced no-box with it. My lights were better, and more consistent. Not great, just better, lol. I'm cramped in my Opel too, like tvt59, but I'm gonna start footbraking it, and probably eventually go TB. I got a steering wheel with a flat spot on the bottom, for more...

Trying to figure out what this is it came out of my 64 barracuda 318 4 speed

Yes, if you use the slip joint main shaft and extension housing. You can also get a conversion driveshaft to replace the ball and trunnion u-joint which uses (I think) a Chevy truck type bolt on flange with a slip spline the goes into it.

Putting up a shop in CA - fire department being a pain

They don't, not at the level of a professional department with modern equipment. I was a volunteer in a rural area for several years before I became a professional paid firefighter. To put it simply, we could not meet the NFPA standards for responding to structure fires for the vast majority...

Putting up a shop in CA - fire department being a pain

I agree they are bending the rules as the shop is not a dwelling. The requirements for the driveway should have been addressed by the fire dept in the pre approval. I'm curious how you got an approved permit without this addressed .

Trying to figure out what this is it came out of my 64 barracuda 318 4 speed

Second gear in the OD trans is 1.67. Second gear in the non-OD 4-speed with the 3.09 gear is 1.92. Not nearly so much rpm drop from first to second in the non-OD 3.09 trans as in the OD trans.

I have (2) of your 570+ lift (LA ) Solids with lifters seasoning if you will !!! I will sale them one day to persons looking for a USA made cam that will last.

Oops...I Did It Again (brake hone)

Well of course not. That's not what they're designed for. The type stone hones in the picture above are also not designed to straighten a cylinder. But then, we're not talking about engine cylinders in this thread.
