    Hello

Hey everyone, new to the forum, recently acquired a 1965 plymouth valiant v100 with: - 340 motor (w/ '72 date code) - A833 4 speed - manual brakes, clutch, and steering - log style 340 hp exhaust manifolds - Holley 670 street avenger carburetor - heater delete - 8 3/4 sure grip rear end Working...

    Are 340’s rare

Yep. 3 year old 69 GTS. If you look back at factory drag tests from the day, typical cars were more mid 14’s

What do you think about this 318 guys.

Well I'm nobody to enter into how-to-build-an-engine threads. But the above is almost exactly what I plan for my Coronet wagon. It has a dead stock 2-bbl 318 now, it will get Speedmaster loaded heads, a stock set of 72 TQ intake, carb, and 340 HP exhaust manifolds, double roller timing set, and...

    Hi-po exhaust manifolds

Good point. There's no way to get cone washers under the sleeve nuts, but it might not be a bad idea to put them under the four center bolts.

    Cheap 318 performance mods.

I've been looking for information on the magnum exhaust manifolds and I couldn't find what I was looking for, is the exhaust opening bigger on the magnum manifolds vs the LA manifolds? dartfreak75 said that he used manifolds for a 2001 ram 1500. I don't mind spending money for a custom down pipe...

    Spark plug gaps

Do me next! 1973 Duster 340, stock piston/cr, 222 SFT, LD340, stock manifolds, MSD Ready to Run distributor, MSD coil. I’m using #4 Autolites with .038” gap. Am I on the right track with colder plugs on low compression iron heads? I went a little more gap to get a bigger kernel...

    Magnum Heads On 340

What material are you using? Soft copper? Or a composite like Comedic uses on their exhaust gaskets for headers? Something else?

    value of parts

340 complete cores are $1200-2500, 340 manifolds are selling for $600-850, 8-3/4 pigs really depend on case number, sure grip, and ratio, anywhere from $50-750. Fresh 360 short block $1000-2000. 4-speed trans depends on year and what they look like inside, $100-1000. Valiant could be $1000-5000...

    Magnum Heads On 340

...I gave someone here recently for this exact reason. Can't promise it is a perfect fix, I have the same problem (Magnum R/T heads with 340 manifolds) and my adapter plates seem to be ok. But I have leaks I haven't identified so it could be them. I think I used 14 or 16ga plate for mine, I...

Not bad at all for a motor that wasn’t even running while he was tuning and there were motor sounds.:D

best hi flow ex manifold/drivers side

Robert, if you can find an A body drivers side manifold from a 72 and up 340 or 360, it is the same thing as the early 340 Hi Po drivers side manifold except that it has tabs cast on top of it to hold a heat stove for a pipe running up to the air cleaner. It has the same 2 1/4 outlet as the...

Does oil filter plate work with 340 HP manifolds

I have the 340 exhaust manifolds on my car with the Accurate Exhaust head pipes. I have that same oil filter plate without the 90 degree adapter and I have to use a really short oil filter to clear. And I have to unbolt the head pipe to change filters. The filter is a Wix/Napa 1335.

Does oil filter plate work with 340 HP manifolds

What brand of head pipes are you running? I have a 340 on a stand with those manifolds and TTI head pipes. Although I do have the 90* adapter, I could roughly compare since everything is in plain sight. Let me know if you want a picture.

    Installing small cam in Stroker?

Exactly. The 440 magnums were under cammed with a 268 degree intake duration from the factory. Not every engine has to wind to 6 or 7k to make decent power for a street motor.

    Installing small cam in Stroker?

I've always been a fan of so-called "undercammed" builds. I built a 416 back about 1995. I dressed it out like a stock 340 including 340 exhaust manifolds and the 340 camshaft. Ported J heads with 2.02 valves, stock 71 cast iron intake and a Demon Sizzler Thermoquad. Put a warmed up 727 behind...

    Nick's Garage dyno's a 318 Stroker.

He did mention they were ported, so the 2.02 valves weren't surprising. 2.02 is A factory valve size, just not originally with those late 340/early 360 heads. Still very impressive power numbers with a Performer intake, iron heads, 340 exhaust manifolds and 318 bore size. It's not maximum...

    Nick's Garage dyno's a 318 Stroker.

There will always be those that discount the 318. It just didn't have the glory of the 340 because it didn't receive the cams, 4bbl, good manifolds... it was a grocery-getter. But for what the 318 will do, it's worth it. You can get cheap power from a 318. Try buying anything 340 cheaply. :D

    Early A-body exhaust

...side. Then find a foundry to cast them and a machine shop to machine the surfaces and then we'll talk. Someone already reproduces the 340 manifolds and you can find used ones at swap meets although they aren't cheap nowadays. THere are also threads here telling about a combination of stock...

Just swapped into this car. As was a 8 3/4 rear end. Did it have 68-70 340 exhaust manifolds?

Stock '69 318, t-quad vs q-jet vs holley vs edelbrock?

+1 on 340 manifolds and the brake/suspension upgrades. i'd run stock manifolds and use that "header money" in the budget for brakes and suspension.

How far in the hole 318 pistons

...half. Put a cam that is reasonable for the car weight, gearing, and intended use in it. Top it with a decent intake and either 68 to 70 340 manifolds, 95 and up Magnum manifolds, or a set of headers. The 95 and later Magnum manifolds are slightly larger than the earlier Magnum manifolds, and...

Real talk: exhaust manifolds on 360 Dart

Apparently not. As far as I can tell, they downsized them with the 360 because the 360 had a lower HP rating, since it was made during the fuel crisis years. The 360 manifolds I've seen are 2 5/8" ball connectors, which I think used 2.5 inch pipe? The numbers on these manifolds for sale are...

Exhaust system for a 1965 Dodge Dart GT

68 340 manifolds can fit an early A; may have clearance issues with the steering joint. Different ways to solve this, but I switched to a power steering column (shorter shaft) attaching the shaft to the gearbox with a Firm Feel adapter. This moved the joint back out of the way. Passenger...

    Headers for a A body

Oh I agree, gotta do what you've gotta do. I wish I could find the thread, it's more that a custom head pipe has to be made and it's such a tight fit around the steering that it requires some skill to fabricate, especially if you want it to perform with any reasonable expectation of being...

    13 sec. 360 for $3,000?

here's an older video... this stock 340 is nice stock cam, smooth idle, quiet through exhaust manifolds, good mileage and nice street performance. certainly not for the quarter milers.

After 35 years back to where i started need exhaust manifold help

I believe Mancini's were offering repop versions of the 340 manifolds, which port size etc will fit best imho. I'm just taking off manifolds from my grandson's 273 to put headers on .
