The marketing of Dougs to the SB mopar crowd has been terrible for as long as the headers have been available. When schumacher makes a header and says the "only" header that doesn't wrap steering and suspension... you have a product that isn't marketed well.

...havoc on the entire header and how do I treat the weld (and the area around it that got hot) to preserve it the best? im not too worried about voiding the warranty because im sure the welding will do that but I don't think header wrap would work in this area because of clearance issues

Or you could do what I do and put a small section of header wrap between the pipe and the straight boots and have them come out the top like the others. Been fine for two years. About 6 inches of it folded over twice and placed between the tube and the wires.

Just my opinion, but I've never been a fan of any kind of "wrap", on starters or headers. Seems like it would catch and hold dirt, oil, water and more. There are several people who like the idea of wrapping headers. But that's suppose to keep heat in! Doesn't seem like a good idea for a starter...

I much prefer the feel of a Borg and Beck clutch. I have manual steering and brakes. I'm leaning towards Doug's headers. I have set up a few hydraulic throw out bearings but only on T-5s. Thank you for the detailed response.

I already bought the dougs long tube headers the plan is to remove the center link, pull the pan, lift the motor, install the headers, drop the motor, install the pan and reinstall the center link all without scraping my knuckles :D

Dump the header wrap idea. Do something else like heat shields and insulation where needed. The wrap will trap any errant oil and become a fire hazard. A friend almost lost his '69 Gran Prix to an ATF leak that hit the header wrap.

Yes, if starter(solenoid) gets too much heat it could be that doesn't work properly, try to use heat shield or wrap your header primary tubes(if you have headers). Those are cheap and easy to try. Or if you have clockable starter, turn solenoid another position (away from heat sources).Or maybe...

X2 and as someone else wisely pointed out, these will Never seal with those ports. X2 I wouldn't even hack them up and try to make them fit with that header flange. Larry :glasses7:

Don't mean to be a buzzkill, but I'd loose the header wrap. Rusty squirrel turds you will find under them in short order.

Got any header wrap laying around? I'd wrap those pipes instead of messing with the line that you probably won't make much difference with. If they crossed the exhaust at a 90 I wouldn't worry too much about it, but since they run parallel to each other that far I would be REALLY concerned about it.

interesting thanks! I have a bit of a gap now and if it decides to hit and make a bunch of noise i think ill just use header wrap on that one spot and see if that will work.. If that doesnt work i may try your idea.
