    Hedman Headers Won't Fit

Yes, that is a must for nearly all headers for an a-body. The only exceptions I know to that rule are TTI's and Doug's. The Hooker/Heddman design are designed to wrap around the steering linkage. PITA=yes My suggestion is to use real good gaskets on them cause their a PITA to change when the...

hedman long tubes, how do you save plug wire 5/7?

I put a folded piece of header wrap between those two plug wires and the pipe, and it's been fine for cloae to a year now. (3 thicknesses)

    Wrapping Headers

I don't know much about crystals. When I wrapped my headers, the heat retained I. Was amazing. It keep so much heat it, it basiy destroyed the header. Wrap is great for the race car, not so much for the street.

    Wrapping Headers

A note from the pro section: Heat wrap tape is the #1 reason that header coatings warranties are denied. The #2 reason is using hardware that isn't stainless on not only your exhaust components but on the valve covers above them -- rust drips are not covered.

    440 A body header options

Just wrap the wires with some header wrap making boots, or buy some boots to protect them (see my picture of the boots on passenger side). If you take your time with fitment, you won't have any issues., never had a plug wire burn, was running 8mm Morso wires. if the headers were hitting stuff...

    Header wrap

Agreed with above posts. Do NOT wrap them. not worth the aggravation. I had a buddy do his and they smoked horribly, and they backed up the heat into the heads....the header flanges would literally glow red because the heat that was radiating...was now confined by the wrap. if you have cooling...

Gues what? another header thread!!! all are welcome

Alright guys so im looking at headers for my 360 magnum that im putting in my 72 dart (automatic with collumn shift and power steering). I have decided to go with either the painted or ceramic coated competition hooker headers. there is the obvious price difference, but what about heat...

Tips and Pics of custom headers

My car gets stored in my shop and because of the tunnel ram is not driven in the rain. I've read every thread on here about header wrap and I have not seen very many positive things about header wrap. If you only race your rig and not daily it will last longer Ive read it keeps too much heat...

    headers wrap question

I just use header wrap in places that need some protection from the heat. Like the 5&7 plug wire boots that would touch the header tube. I folded it over twice making a 3 layer thick pad about 2 inches long with a little high temp RTV inside it to keep it from unwrapping and falling out from...

    Henry's 70 Dart Swinger

...the car! i like it as well! obviously lol! thanks for the comments on the manifolds....for some reason they would get hot enough to boil the brake fluid in the MC. so my dad made a very clever heat sheild which solved the problem. i plan to wrap them in header wrap to see if that helps.

    Slant 6 Turbo 68Dart Project

Just one piece of the hose blew. The one closest to the snail shell. The wastegate I have no idea what it's set at as I had no way to hook it up to a compressor at the time. I'll have to finish routing my hoses and keep them from blowing, because that caused the boost gauge to stop reading...

Tips and Pics of custom headers

I'm planning on coating the headers and going with a header wrap too. But I'm not sure there's room for a shield on the steering box. I have a 1/4" of room at the tightest spot so it would have to be pretty form fitting.

    Not pumping??

...tryin to say is do the headers normally get scalding hot in a matter of 15-20 seconds? As for the smoking headers, Geof informed me it could just be oil or something of the sorts burning off. I'm gonna see if they'll burn clean when I finally get it running right. Wanna get some header wrap too

    hate a body headers

nope but the smallblock ones does have one slipjoint tube wrap around the driverside torsionbar but nothing wraping around the steeringparts, however they are much easier to install with the centerlink dropped down if the engine is in the car

My engine developed a shake/misfire in the middle of a drive

Both, those hedman headers have killed at least 4 plug wires on those cylinders now.I definitely wont be putting these style of headers back on when they wear out. I'll step up to TTI's or whatever works best with an alterkation or HDK system. Right now the plan is to replace the wires, buy...

    Henry's 70 Dart Swinger

I would stay away from the header wrap. It will cause problems on a daily driver. Holds moisture and then rot. You might want to fab a heat shield out of 1/8" aluminum or 0.030" ss. A couple of hose clamps and 1/4" or 1/2" spacers.

    Not pumping??

Ok I understand now. I'm getting old ya know! Yes because of the thin metal header tubes are made of it doesn't take but 3-5 seconds after start up to burn your skin. And yes if there is any oil or paint on those headers they will smoke until it is all burned off which doesn't take long.

Whew! You ask a tall order but I will try my best to comply without opening up my catologs. I'm sure to be corrected and/or have some info added since I don't think I can get it all in one shot here, but, LOL, know it all I am not! So here we go. The "W2" is a cast iron head only from MoPar...

Dyno run/ missing out maybe? Low hp/tq

Scamp - Please keep in mind these are ideas, may not be the problem. They are easy things to check - run for a while and then look, see and listen if the fuel is perculating in the bowls or excessively hot carb, lines etc. One learning point from this site for me was "not to throw money at...

416 low oil pressure at idle

...is that the header clearance by the filter is causing the engine oil to become hotter than the engine water temp which can cause loss in viscosity, he recommended some header wrap to reduce the heat transfer to the oil filter.. is this bullshit by him covering his a?? or is it a good point.
