...on the car, the welds are no where close to looking like those posted on fbbo, the are smooth with extra material in between the 1-3 tubes. like I said before, I would run them again on my car , if it weren`t for the starter heat soak problem , after removing the header wrap that came on them.

are you going to header wrap the down pipes (from the steering box down) to protect the trans' cooler lines from heat? i know you mentioned ceramic coating which helps but they sure look close. neil.

You have to be INSANE to have long-tube headers on a big-block A-body Mopar!

OK that is "Strike 3" on the headers. Header wrap and thin wall header tubes rusting out, not to mention grinding holes in the headers going over high spots in the road, and wearing holes in them with the steering shaft. Not looking very promising for the header operation . . .

    Extra electric fan?

Try some header wrap. Did a great job on the 427 Cobra replica I built several years ago. That engine is a 429 SCJ.

True, but it tends to rot the headers.

Im on second set of Hooker 5215 2" fenderwells. I would get coated whatever you do. And dont wrap them either, More condensation IMO. As far as header collector under car you live with it or have your existing header collector cut rewelded to more parallel to underside of car. Check out my 5205...

    Bad knocking under feet

I don't think I'd beat or wrap anything. Getting that pipe down a little lower would be the correct way. Actually, from going back and looking at it, that pipe needs to be remade. Whoever made it, totally "missed" the exhaust pipe nook in the cross member. All it needs is to be bent differently...

318 LA rebuild after losing a valve seat

Sure. Or look up heat wrap on Summit or Amazon. There are a lot of options that might better fit the smaller tubes. If you are wrapping the headers, I'd still wrap the tubes. That pipe is really close to the oil pan which doesn't help either.

Final installation. Missing pressure gauge and broadband gauge. Next step: start up and run through heat cycles, wrap with header wrap, tune. Air cleaner assembly is stock four barrel off of Dodge van. Almost factory appearing.

Better to wrap the headers. Keeps the heat in the header.

E-street vs Promaxx vs 440 Source

Like I tell my customers if it was easy everybody would have one... I feel like I'm in the book of three little bears... These heads flow too much, these heads don't flow enough, but these heads are ju----st right.... Admittedly off subject is told not to be LOL but I'm still completely trying...

Excellent points. I’m wondering if there is vacuum (lots) from restriction on the inlet will anything help, after the fact.

318 LA rebuild after losing a valve seat

I did think about that. I have some header wrap coming that I was going to place in strategic areas, and I'm going to reroute the speedo cable. Could I wrap the trans cooler lines with the same header wrap?

    Header and exhaust wrap question

I have .032" stainless steel wire would that be good enough to help secure the wraps in place? Or should I get thicker?

You have to be INSANE to have long-tube headers on a big-block A-body Mopar!

I don't know man. I'm not an advocate for header wrap at all. They hold moisture and as a result, rust headers out pretty quickly. Also, they can do the exact opposite of what they were intended to do, especially in close quarters. I've seen wrap actually contribute to overheating, because they...

Started wrapping today, first header turned out crappy, think I'll order another 25' and redo that one, now that I figured the trick to wrap the collectors.

Looks good!(like the truck also). Seeing the header wrap,I have a question: does it deteriorate the pipe? If that is possible, would the coating that Speedway sells for headers provide the same heat retention the wrap does? Thanks! Bob

Uncle Tony's response to Direct Connection

I've thought the same. what about the guys doing the bodywork on that 4 to 2 door conversion? that body work isn't easy... well not if you are actually going to paint it etc. I cant figure how he got someone to do the welding and bodywork for free, and I don't see him paying them anything. as...

True maybe for that price I'll grab 2 of the pack, should be okay just need to wrap around 3.5" pipe and a small 4" but then the 1.75" header pipes.

I have had the header wrap on this set of headers for four years. The headers are a carry over from the prior motor. Keep in mind that the car was a strip only car, and probably had 60 runs over those four years. Never was driven in the rain,,, A piece of the header tape on the #1 pipe got torn...

Right. The big blocks have the plug wires routed under the manifolds, which also works very well with headers. Why people try to put them on differently is anyone's guess. Maybe to show them off? Who knows?
  28. jimharvard

You have to be INSANE to have long-tube headers on a big-block A-body Mopar!

actually, the spark plug wires were routed the way they are by the previous owner. you can install plug wires in a better manner than what you see in the picture even with headers. but as you note, you have to be careful to keep plug wires away from the header tubes which get extremely hot -...

    Video questions on my Valiant

I would just put a heat shield between the master and the header. If you want to wrap that is up to you but I would just make a shield to go in between them. Brian
