    Manual to power steering conversion

I converted to power. For the pump I used the Tuff Stuff Saginaw pump for rack and pinion. It has a lower pressure and gives you a good assist without the over powered steering with your pinky feel the stock pressure gives.

    Looking at Tubular K member

I would like to take it to the track couple times a year, but mostly street driving. I would be interested to know how to set up the torsion bar suspension to make it handle just as good. I have upgraded torsion bars, and the adjustable race struts up front with factory upper and lower control...

...it isn't severe. It can be fixed by either lowering the drag link or readjusting the motor position. I also might be moving towards rack and pinion, which would completely eliminate that clearance issue. I went with the external pump pan, but both look to be identical in size. Here's a...

    71 Scamp Dangerous To Drive

Thanks so much. I’ll check the pivot tubes and welding. I did have the Scamp aligned after rebuilding the steering box by a supposed “reputable” old school alignment guy. What would be the best performing tire in your opinion? I was even considering going to 17x8 5x4 wheels and a modern tire...

'70 Dart 392 Project; what direction?

Thank you for the input! I have some time to figure out what direction to go on rear suspension but you make a good point about cruising vs racing. My buddies 70 duster has hotckiss rear springs and front suspension upgrades and it handles extremely well! Traction control and a fat tire is...

    66 Dart GT HT Whatsitgonnabe?

Hey Matt! I'm planning on running headers thru the gaps in the K-frame in front of the mounts so I cut the brackets that held the stock motor mounts out and kept the mounts as close to the block as I could. I bought a steering rack-and-pinion from a Mustang II and was exploring was to get that...

Help with 1959 Dodge Sweptline front suspension upgrade/conversion ideas?

...on the later '61 to '74 Sweptlines, but I haven't seen anything for the earlier trucks. I also saw an expensive custom front end with rack and pinion for the later trucks, but again nothing for the older trucks. If anyone else has any info about upgrading the brakes and front suspensions, I...

    Turbo six on a Budget

You’ve seen it. I’ve posted pics of it here a few times. The car is currently apart and going back together with a whole new front end. Coilovers, electric rack and pinion, wilwoood 13” brakes and I’m moving the engine back 11”.

Whos running over 700whp on an 8.75?

I haven't weighed the car yet. The aftermarket K and rack and pinion is definitely lighter than the factory one and steering box. The links are lighter than the leaf springs and the aluminum heads and plastic intake are certainly lighter than the stock cast ones. So realistically its probably...

    K-Member / Rack & Pinion Steering Suggestions

For some, there is no comparison of the feel 60's / 70's steering box to the precise steering of the modern rack and pinion. I don't care whose aftermarket steering box you buy or re-build. Add the built-in increased caster (at least with the HDK), additional room and weight savings, all in a...

    isnt he a member here?

...and make the geometry WORSE, and he knows that. There's no doubt some advantages, and no doubt some disadvantages too. It's how all suspension works. If you just need to have a rack and pinion, knock yourself out. But a rack and pinion and header clearance doesn't mean "superior" handling.

Steering All Over the Place at 55mph+

A lot of good info so far, but I can add a little. When I first got my Dart it would darn near change lanes if I hit one of those reflectors in the road, and the feel of the car overall was exactly like you described. Scary huh? My problems were caused by badly worn lower control arm bushings...

Steering All Over the Place at 55mph+

I just want to jump in here & be sure to point out that You need to be certain the rear suspension is in good shape, that's cracked/broken front spring-eyes, shot bushings, loose fasteners....also be mindful of the front-to-rear spring-rates & tire pressures, too stiff in the rear & too soft up...

    K-Member / Rack & Pinion Steering Suggestions

...is the '78 MII spindle doing for you that you can't do with a '73+ Mopar spindle? First one is easy, it's set up for rear steer so a rack and pinion works without terrible Ackerman or an impossible steering shaft angle. Got it. But what does the camber gain look like? How does it change the...

Borgeson steering chuck....reports on steering feel versus stock P/S.

...The higher effort really highlights the dead spot. Once I get past the slop, the steering feels great .... I drive a Ram 1500 with rack and pinion and even with 380,000 miles, it still is tight and responsive. I do understand that these stock steering units do have their limitations. Thanks!

whats the intended purpose? from what i've always read the AJE is more a drag car set up not a street car set up. the best and most proven tube, R&P , with coil over set up on the market today is the alter-k-tion from RMS. as far as turning radius being limited goes like i keep hearing...

They build them in 3 versions; stock, stage 2 (was described to me that it would feel like 90's rack and pinion) and stage 3 which was an extra $100 and I wasn't sure it would make any difference since all I wanted was to be able to drive the car without it...
