that's a whole bunch of cam for a 318 with that compression... the heads and intake will support it and you likely already have a converter and gears seeing that you were previously running a 408. but, still, that's a bunch of cam without the cubes and compression to make the magic.

I like 318s. It's a 5.2L v8. Put good heads, cam, intake and it'll rip. Plenty of 500 hp LS5.3s around. A 318 is a good set of heads away from the same glory.

Well my point is/was ( with regard to the OP) use the stock 318 cam because installing a performance cam into an otherwise stock early 70s smogger 318 doesnt gan you much in the top end... I beleive its mainly because of the small port heads and small valves,
