Best cam for the street both power & sound

LOL! I sold my 318 with a 6901 to an older guy who has a 49 Plymouth. He's running the stock intake and BBD with that cam...he's happy so far...but concerned with gas mileage i told him "you'll be ok with that BBD..." but yes they are the street cam or classic cam i think the series is...

    1988 318 engine

That should be the good 318 Roller Cam Engine. 9.2:1 compression ratio, flat top pistons. Drop a 4 barrel on it > Oh Boy, Oh Boy.... ☆☆☆☆☆

if i build a BUDGET 360.... LA Vs Magnum 5.9

Topic says : 318 "basic rebuild" cam, heads, intake. Worn out 74 engine and it's symptoms are Parton BASIC REBUILD , you guys tell me to not touch it It's a bad motor, it seems.. you will not find a used 318 LA with perfect compression. That's why it's a old LA

David Vizard - Which to prioritize - PORT FLOW or PORT VELOCITY?

Yeah until you see a 318 with ported 318 stock valves run mid 12's with a 218 hydraulic cam in 3400 pound street car.

SBE 318 basic rebuild +CAM , INTAKE, HEADS, expectations?

I asked him to do a 318 vs 360 shootout, he didn't see the point in doing it.

    5.2/5.9 H.P build guesstimate

I e run a similar camshaft and that cam is usable with a OEM converter. 3.55’s are good. It made power to 5K on my LA 318 w/stock heads

David Vizard - Which to prioritize - PORT FLOW or PORT VELOCITY?

There's many ways to run 12's with a 318, what velocity are those heads running at ?

    Sixpack on a 318 engine ?

Bore size will have an effect, on 2.02" or small valves probably not gonna make huge difference especially at the power levels (cfms) most are trying to get out of a 318 250-400 hp

    Never mind

...77cc, and so your 318 comes in at about (658.9+77)/77=9.56 Scr. The quench is gonna be too tight So the bad news is that even with the stock 318 cam (Ica of 48*) at 9.56 Scr, she's only predicted to put out ~150psi. By the time you get to two sizes bigger, a 262/266/110 cam, (Ica of 60*)...

Crossover Tube and Valve Spring Pressure Questions

Changing crankshaft bearings with the engine in the car.

I didn't take pictures, but I have seen this on 80's small blocks. '82 Ramcharger 318, '84 Diplomat 318, '87 Truck 360. Changed cam bearings in the vehicle except for the back one which always looked good. Position #1-3 always looked terrible. It was side work on Saturdays and never thought...

    Another 318 set up

Just sitting here thinking about how many different things can be done to the 318 to improve it's performance. Now this is only something that I thought about while waiting for the wife to get her medicine. Edelbrock AVS2 500 cfm carburetor, performer intake, stock heads with a good 3 angle...

    2 barrel to 4 barrel

I agree, 15-20ish. Main issue is, where it really helps, the stock 318 cam is too rpm limited.

Hitch hikers guide to a FABO question post.

I have an old 360 laying around......how can I get it to make as much power as a 318 ? What cam and heads should I use?

Making power out of the 318

https://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/search/8453749/?q=318+cam&o=relevance Search gets me 17 pages of threads using "318 cam" and most end up a pissin match in the end. :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead:

Best cam for the street both power & sound

That 6901 is a perfect cam for a stock 318. It's pretty mild.

Best cam for the street both power & sound

I agree. I ran that 6901 in a stock teen with stock heads etc and 600 Holley it was fun to a point it didn't rev much or should I say the power band was reached pretty quick. I have read that, the best cam for a stock 318 is the stock cam...and I d bet its true. But its like .399 lift or...

Best cam for the street both power & sound

Hey everyone i am new here I recently bought a 71 plymouth duster roller no engine or trans I plan on building a mild 318 la that is choppy and has good torque and pep for the street and maybe some strip along with a 46rh trans and 3.23 or 3.55 gears Plan on adding Long tube headers Edelbrock...

SBE 318 basic rebuild +CAM , INTAKE, HEADS, expectations?

Then as a 318 owner myself.. i will say... go on market place and find a 360.... you will have much more torque and power for much less money.. on a good day you can find one for $300ish.. put in a cam and intake and you will probably be in the same range as the 318 with heads/cam/intake...

    .480/230 cam in an 8.5 CR 360?

It just will not work! Call any cam mfg. and ask them. He would be much better off just using a stock 318 cam. I'll bet he could get one on here for free + shipping. You are giving the man the wrong info.

Best cam for the street both power & sound

if they're the same price and similar condition, always go for the bigger motor. with one caveat.....if one is a roller cam motor, go for the roller motor....if you can find a roller cam LA 318 (M bodies 85-89, trucks 85-91) or roller cam 360 (trucks (87-91) that can get by with a rering, go...

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

There isn't a 1 formula fit's all Hemi builds or any other type of engine. Intended use and all variables involved will determine what cam or even type of cam to be best for combo, Ex you wouldn't get great results in a 318 with 106 cam 238 degree with 3.23 gears, even if the formula says so. or...

    5.2/5.9 H.P build guesstimate

It is worth mentioning the 280h cam selected for the 318 build will be a dog on the bottom end if you don't follow the rest of the build and the compression up. Years ago we used that in a 350 chebbie with stock low compression pistons and a stock converter in an 81 pontiac grand prix with 373...
