    LSA Question

318 cams are wanting a bit. A 360 cam is likely going to perk it up a bit and still keep a smooth idle. A 340 cam may introduce a bit of lope to the idle. This is really where the tune comes into play.

    headers vs manifolds on a 318 2bbl difference ????

I agree on all your points. Considering this van engine is a stockish 318 that would be pressed to spin to 5k rpm, a dyno of this engine would give more usable info if started at a lower rpm. Even then we don't get much info about part throttle driveability from dyno testing.

Do you let your old engine warm up or just get in and drive?

I run it long enough to where it can idle without stalling, then drive it easy until it is up to temperature. I don't have a choke so it is all foot and feather until it runs steady. These flat tappet cams need varying rpms for proper oiling. No flat tappet engine will like long idling periods...

    SB vs BB who wins?

Agree. I like to compare a 318 to a 327 chevy. There were two barrel, low compression 327s, usually in a full size impala with no gear, and a powerglide. They couldn't pull a fat girl off a tricycle. The 318 is very similar to that 327, a low-po workhorse, with no pretense of performance, so no...

    273 correct heads?

On my 73 318 block I have cast iron heads 2843675. These were used on 67 318s and 68-69 273s with 2-bbl carbs. 1.78 intake/1.50 exhaust. Small chambers 62-64cc, small ports. I had Basko Engines in Gilbert AZ open valves to 1.94/1.60, polish bowls, used lightweight valves, 320 springs. They did...

    Hypothetical 318 Builds

Not saying cr has nothing to do with but additional airflow is also help making low end tq, plus the low cr 318 with xe262h cam is making 45 tq over stock cam at 3000 rpm to with zero cr help and obviously the 4bbl vs 2bbl helps too. That 10.5:1 ported EQ 247/247 477 hp has the strongest curve...

    318 cam

I would personally take second look at Summit, specifically the 6900/6901 cams. A .480 lift is pretty big for an otherwise stock, low compression 318. Those two I mentioned above have been proven to "wake up" a 318 without going overboard and also without requiring lots of other performance...

Low speed torque and driveability ?

What I was trying to show with all the dyno is that even with various cams in 318/340/360 from stock to fairly wild all made decent torque at 3000 rpm for sure, decent evidence that at 2500 rpm most if not all still doing ok, less evidence but even at 2000 rpm all seems good especially is...

    340 intake on 318

You can edit. Nice blower motor but nothing to do with 318 port mismatch. :poke:

    [SOLD] Small Block Pushrods

For sale is a set of small block ball / cup pushrods. These allow you to use the 273 style of ductile iron adjustable rocker with a hydraulic flat tappet cam. They can be used in any Dodge, Plymouth, Chrysler small block 273, 318, 340, 360 with adjustable rockers. I believe these were from...

    Adjustable rocker identification?!

Not having studied the 300 series cars that much what engines did they have in them that had adjustable rockers? 273 or 318 poly, 413?

    CAM HELP NEEDED!

The engine did have a solid cam in it when I bought it. I like the idea of a quiet maintenance free cam, if I can have it. The cam That was in it had the following stamps on it. I actually considered putting hydraulics on it. I have not determined the profile of it yet. I can only assume its a...

David Vizard, Uncle Tony's garage, Unity motorsport. Mission impossible Dodge 302 Head porting

I don't care if this build will/has moved goal post, the flow numbers they gotten out of the 318 parts can easily reach the 318 HP goal, I'd rather them do a zero deck 318 build, and get as many cams and top end parts they can a dyno every combo under the sun.

Anyone Run a Crane Z-268-2 Cam in their 318?

I literally just stuck one in over the long weekend. I'm at 10-1 318 60 over. I'll let you know how it goes.

    318 cam

Any cam you install (unless it is real close to stock specs) should be checked for clearances.

    920 heads - What Cam?

you sound a little more cruiser than bruiser, and not looking to hit your power peak at 5K while you bang shift to the speed limit. i'm *guessing* that you've got a 4bbl carb w/ dual exhaust. if not, no biggie. these will still work, but they'd work more better-er with the usual hot rod things...

Anyone Run a Crane Z-268-2 Cam in their 318?

That’ll have a mostly smooth idle and make OK decent power. I ran a very similar Crane cam in a stock long block ‘79 - 318, 904,w/3.21 gears, hooker headers into a Jegs dual exhaust, LD4B and a 600 Holley. With regular stock sized tires it could get into the high 14’s easy enough. Traction was...

Add hotter cam or Add hotter head ?

Cam. Now you need to go through 150 threads to figure out which one is the best. :poke:   Chop, Chop!!!!!! Here's a link. Cams for 318's

    340 intake on 318

Similar to the bigger heads. Stock ports only go so far and seeing how they were not intended for racing……. Totally agree. Unless someone just wants to learn how to port an iron head…. That’s on them and I say happy porting to them. I hear ya there!

    318 cam

I've ran the 6901 in a 318 and it does work with stock 318 LA heads and valve springs. Its ok for the street , not saying its a high revver like a 340...I dont think youd get the top end RPMS with 318 heads anyway but I am verifying the K 6901 works in a 318 . It is what it is. My set up was...

    Hypothetical 318 Builds

Compression at 10 vs 7.5 stock is what you are seeing. Stick that same cam in a stock 318 and it would not even spin the tires in snow.

    Boosted slant?

You say that you're running an intercooler, so can I assume you are running blow thru and not draw thru? I'm planning at least initially to get it running on a 318 BBD carb so I was looking to start out with draw thru. 5-7 psi was about what I had in mind. Are you running a stock cam? I had...

    Tuning

I’ve stabbed small cams in smogger engines before. The power increase is disappointing but there. Mostly seen and felt is the rpm band moving upwards. A lot of things hold the engine back from a nice improvement from the cam swap. Low compression Small valves Less than ideal cylinder head...

can anyone help me get an extra 200 hp out of my stock 340 what parts do i need to change or what never can get anyone that i talk to with a straight

Here is a good cam for your target if you do go on the boost path. Howards Cams, Street Force Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshaft, Chrysler SB 273-360/318, 225/235 @ .050, .465/.470, 112 LS - Competition Products I do like the thought of a blow through pro charger setup, especially if you are open...

    Big horsepower 318 builds

What you are saying is what is true of any engine. Heads, induction and camshaft. There are 300 inch comp eliminator motors that make 800 horse or thereabouts. Mopar short deck W8 deals. Really the only variables are bore and stroke as to the limiters to the output. To me, the big limiter with...

New guy with M300 mini motorhome.

Here is a simple 4 barrel adapter that works quite well with the stock 2 barrel manifold. Have used them multiple times with great results. Don't have to pull intakes or change cams, works fine with the stock cam stock engine. '69 318 with 4 bbl adapter. Nice improvement on performance...

    very mild 360 build.

Stock 360-2bbl melling cam is spd25. I think the 340 cam is spd22. I've used a couple of those 25s before in 318s, noticeable win power, idles like stock 318 cam. Exactly the same thing as the comp 252 minus 0.015" lift. Duration and overlap are dead nuts the same as the comp at a cheaper price...

    Roller LA cam into Magnum?

Absolutely. It's the best way to get a mechanical fuel pump onto a Magnum, once you get an LA timing cover on it. It's actually a nice mild upgrade for the Magnum, as the LA cam specs are based on a 1.5:1 rocker ratio, and the Magnum uses 1.6:1. Truth be known, the 318 roller cam is a bit...

    Cams for Dummies ??

I had delta cams grind a hydraulic for my 318 4 bbl. Is 208/214 on 111 and it starts and runs very well with an 800cfm Rochester and early 318 heads. Years ago I too bough an Erson tq 30 by recommendation for my 340 4 speed and it was a turd. swapped to an Isky 280 mega and saw the light!
