    Edelbrock aluminum heads

But under 3000 rpm we spend most time at part throttle which means the engine only making what it needs to do normal driving which is not much and it's only a fraction of the hp the engine capable of even at low rpms. And at full throttle how much time do we spend under 3000 rpms anyways...

Any 10 second "All Throttle" 318's in door cars ?

244@ 50 cam might not be enough to get a 318 in the 10’s, it’s possible, but I would want something bigger. your gonna need convertor anyhow, might as well put a big boy stick in it, if your serious. to me, minimum.. Mechanical Flat Tappet Camshaft; 1964 - 2003 Chrysler 273, 340, 360 3400 to...

    17" versus 14" tires

Hmm...I got a cam reground by Bullet and it has .520" lift. I put it in the 360 in my Duster with Hughes retrofit roller lifters. I wonder if we ended up with the same cam.

    Compression Ratio

Yeah, i had to think back many years. Same intake and carburetor as the 360, stock compression ratio 318 bottom end, mildly ported 360 heads, 273 adjustable rocker arms and a Comp Cams 270S solid flat tappet camshaft. Sounded like a big block when we opened the headers.

    Vintage drag race question

Is anyone here old enough to remember what D/Modified Production cars ran in the mid 1960's? Did they run flat tappet or roller cams in M/P back then? Found this pic in an old book and though it would be cool to build a tribute engine. Just wondering what the performance potential might be. I...

    17" versus 14" tires

RR of the Day: unholy cool 1986 Chrysler 5th Avenue - Autoblog thanks, sold it 11 years ago when I got my toxic orange charger RT....wish I could have kept all my cars....after this submission, I had pulled the 360 and built up the original 318 short block with magnum heads and a reground...

Stop in for a cup of coffee

I know off the top of my head that factory 340 heads are pretty much done between .480 and .50 No idea what 273 is. The zebra dart's 318 was a blast off the line. Had a pretty "mild" cam in it. Good for coming off slow and moderate turns. Only real issue was the car was going W2W road...

    Basic 318 Mods

It's basically gonna be where it is stock might be minor gains here. The trick is how far can you take it without majorly sacrificing the first goal This is the main thing everything hangs on, bad choices on 4bbl headers even heads isn't overly gonna ruin driveability compared to what a wrong...

Stop in for a cup of coffee

Summit Point... right up the road from me.. I'll dig for references on the volume and cam specs. The heads had work done to them previously... haven't been run but was set to go onto a 318 block with purple cam.

Stop in for a cup of coffee

Doing some digging the engine and car came from Skinner & Co. with (0.420"/0.436", 219degrees @ 0.050"). I drove the car in '06 so it still had that cam. He discusses adding headers and then high flow heads before changing cams...

    318 cam

THat would be good until someone posts a Summit cam and someone else will down talk it and say how junk it is. Same with Comp except about the quality. (or lack of) (or not). THere is no win. I would just use baselines. No duration @.050 any larger than 225° It's interesting how the old grinds...

New 318 build, just need some input.

Ok guys what I have is a 1969 318 and I have a plan for a rebuild. Block needs to be bored at least .030 My plan is to use the stock crank and rods with KB167 pistons for the bottom end. 302 heads with stock valves and a little unshrouding around the valves Comp Cams Adv. Good Cam for 318

Like anything it depends on your budget. I have run Summit brand SUM-6901 and their SUM-1789 in a 273 and 318 and was happy with how well the engines performed. Of course if budget is on the high side the cams from Howards and Hughes are very good. The Whiplash cam is designed for a stock lower...

    .480/230 cam in an 8.5 CR 360?

Actually in the beginning I said a stock 340 cam then just to kick them in the pants I said the 318 cam. I owned a couple of 1979 Chrysler 300's. They came with the 340 cams dual exhaust ect. They sounded great, had a little power but overall they were dogs. One of them I rebuilt and the final...

Best cam for the street both power & sound

don't forget, you can advance a cam as well....you can install a 110 LSA cam on a 104-106 ICL to close the intake valve sooner and get more cylinder pressure....IIRC it's ground like 4 degrees advanced (106 ICL). 22 years ago, I had the XE262 in a stock long block 360, it felt very healthy with...

    318 comp cam

I ran a set of 302 castings (1.88/1.60) with a [email protected] hydraulic cam. Had 10hg at idle! Heads can’t flow the bigger valves well. Small motor/small valve dia=port velocity. Look at lunati voodo cam ending in 701.

New to Joining the site! Hello

Hello, I have browsed this site quite a few times to read through discussions on many topics. It seems searching the internet for my Mopar answers leads me to this forum quite often. I figured it was time to join into the discussion and ask a few questions that in no doubt have already been...

    318 power!

The thing is that Stock and Super Stock have a nominal compression ratio and they get a point over that. If his engine builder has his **** together then it’s a point over nominal. So your math with 8.5:1 isn’t valid.

    318 comp cam

That cam is going to want compression, gears, and a converter. None of which you mention, so I am going to say much better choices out there.

    Edelbrock heads with OEM manifolds

I've also had similar experience, the 5.9/360 in my Duster has ported Edelbrocks and 9:1 compression while the 360 in my D200 has stock iron heads and 8:1 compression (rated 8.2:1 but likely lower). I've never had the Duster engine ping even when the ignition timing was overly advanced but the...

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

No problem I admit I don't have tons performance experience that's Rumbles hole card on me, I worked at my dads garage for a number of years as a child/teen until he lost it cause of health, never done a full engine build mainly 340/360 top ends swaps on 318's most my cars were /6, done things...

NOT MINE: Looking for junkyard front disc brakes? Northern CA.....

What all were you looking for? Did you end up taking anything home?
  27. rumblefish360

    Maybe I've learned a good lesson . . .

I would t touch an iron head for a 318. I’d use an Edelbrock head straight away. You’ll be way ahead dollar wise and head flow wise.

NOT MINE: Looking for junkyard front disc brakes? Northern CA.....

I saw this complete car at the Pick-N-Pull in Rocklin, CA. 1980 Chrysler Cordoba. Ever see this engine code? E 46? Yeah. 318 4 barrel. Did you see the base timing setting? That is what we often set the timing in engines with big cams! Not a lean burn but it did have some weird...

    318 cam

The stock one. Your on your way to making a pig… the whole package has to be looked at… starting with use of car, street strip, or canyon carving, then Tire size, gearing, what transmission, converter if auto, car weight, and then motor size, what heads, and the other parts of the motor. As...
