Take a spark plug out and put a piece of rope in that cylinder about 5' long leaving about a foot or so hanging out. Turn the crank until it stops on the rope. Torque it down, back the crank up and pull the rope out, reinstall plug.

I used a Milodon crush proof gasket on my 340 part number 40600. Had the pan off a few times and still no leaks. Its kinda expensive for a pan gasket though,,,, 31.95 but well worth it.

Spray them down with equal parts of acetone and automatic tranny fluid mixed together. That stuff works wonders
