Well, the way I look at it, you can always slide the tubes together to shorten the long roto, but you would have to add your own tubing to lengthen the short one. I have put everything from a Newport to a truck cab on mine.

Something just dawned on me... Are you thinking that the pump is leaking directly into the crankcase???

Doesn't a fuel pump either pump X gallons a hour or nothing??? How would it ever "over-pump"??? I have heard of older engines (Flathead era) that would do this. Maybe I should read up on how a fuel pump pumps?

The carb kit arrived at the shop this morning and I replaced everything. The float checked out ok, as did all the diaphragms. The inlet needle was free. Actually too free compared to the new one. I wonder if the "slop" in it caused it to stay open or leak??? Thanks for the help guys...

I should note that the only reason I do it this way is that many of the cars that come into my shop come in bare metal from a media blaster. The first thing I do is clean it up and put it in epoxy. Then I can analyze the damage and order the replacement panels or fabricate them. Rust happens...

You're going to hear it from someone sooner or later... Get a copy of the factory service manual. Those Chilton manuals have alot of wrong information in them. Fine for finding the oil capacity I guess, but probably off when it comes to proper clearances. Most of the power is in the head...
