    Agreeing with 67Dart273 that you need to invest you time to ensure that the new distributor is setup and/or installed correctly.

    What does detonation sound like?

    Pinging sound. If it is pinging then timing is slightly too far advanced. Try retarding the timing and see if the detonation sound/pinging sound goes away.

    They reduce the axle from coiling up under heavy acceleration which reduces wheel hop and loss of traction.
