Life after Holley Sniper - back to Carb

I built a 383 stroker for my C10 and was talked into going with a Sniper. Worst mistake I ever made. It complicated the whole system because it wants to control everything including the fans, a/c, gauges, and it’s still not tuned properly after taking it to three different professionals. I’m in...

    Diff ratio help

The factory ECU can be programmed with the diff ratio and tire sizes, and it will compensate some. With that power and EFI, a custom tune is pretty much guaranteed.

Anyone knows anything about PW SBM Head?

Although I've not had their heads, I've personally had quality control issues with 2 brand new AVS-2 carbs, and a new intake. Sorry, I shouldn't derail this thread.

If only this type of kit were available for SBM at the same price......

I am lucky to have a complete Dick Landy set up. Today for the money, if I had to buy new, I would just buy a new 6-71 set up.

383 appearing, 400 stroker with stealth heads question.

years ago i had a 66 D150 that had a 440 in it with an eddy performer package: carb, intake, cam & heads. it had ceramic coated headers and standard issue speed shop chrome air cleaner and was painted chrysler blue. with the hood up, most anybody that walked by looked and just said: oh, a big...

Life after Holley Sniper - back to Carb

After a couple of years with the Holley Sniper EFI and it’s problems I now decided to go back to carb. I need some suggestions, so I buy one I can work with. I tried Edelbrock 1405 and 1406 before the Sniper, was never happy with. 318 with 904. Edelbrock RPM Airgap intake Edelbrock RPM...

Manifold Vacuum Advance what am I not getting?

Just so you know, I built a 367 @11.3 and 8.8Dcr pumping over 180 psi; and it idled at 5*Advance. This was with the Mopar 292/292/108 cam; and with OOTB Edelbrock aluminum heads. I ran it on Ported vacuum. But I modded the can by filing the stops until the diaphragm bottomed inside the can, and...

    318 Intake Gaskets Question

I don't think the metal shim gasket is supposed to be used with the Edelbrock aluminum intakes. I mean nothing is stopping you from doing it, but I had to buy new and much thicker composite gaskets because it was recommended.

    5.2/5.9 H.P build guesstimate

The MP crate engine, 360/380 hp is basically a stone stock long block with a Hyd roller cam of 230@050 on the intake and .513 lift. These engines dyno’d constantly over 400hp. Your cam choice will make more torque down low and give up some power up top. If your going to stay with your cam...

    Big horsepower 318 builds

I can't imagine that it would be THAT hard to do.. someone has to have ported a set, I know TF CNC ports them but they also leave large margins for safety (from breaking through, core shift and to avoid warranty issues).. 16cfm @.500 has to be possible...

    Big horsepower 318 builds

It's not that I especially care about about gm products. I've never owned one. I'm just a little hung up on why a 5.2 sbm couldn't make similar power to a 5.3ls, with similar specs. Seems the more sophisticated heads and intake are the biggest thing. Could SM/Edelbrock/TF heads be ported to...

    Big horsepower 318 builds

Could do it with Bloomer heads. They make great power Not sure how much a 2.08 valve would be shrouded, but high lift 230@50 roller, 13 to 1 compression, good intake and carb, good ring pack, think it could be done pretty easily.

    Big horsepower 318 builds

If you are serious about making power like a late model engine you need to disabuse yourself of the notion that a Chrysler head with standard rockers is worth spending a nickel on. If you want to build a 500 hp 318 with a small cam you use W2 heads or better. Anything else is just expensive...

    Big horsepower 318 builds

Question for the head porting experts: Would a well ported set of heads (like Edelbrock or SM) and a well matched intake get you there? 5 hundo HP with a 318 and say, a solid roller cam with sub 230 degrees or duration?

Got a new Truck (new to me)

For those that want to know, here is what a 1989 318 Roller Engine looks like inside: Bolt down the "Spider" and it's ready for the 318 intake of choices. Stock roller cam works well with 1406 Edelbrock 4 bbl carb. 302 factory closed chamber heads Factory 9.2:1 compression ratio Flat top...

    Unknown rebuild specs

Over 10 years ago when I first began my Duster project I scored a rebuilt 74 dated 318 with a stock bottom, stock heads with a 1.88&1.6 valve job. The lifters and rockers are stock Chrysler parts. Camshaft is unknown however the lift measures just shy of .480 This motor was intended for another...

    intake and carb suggestions?

For your build, I would recommend an Edelbrock AVS2-650 carb. Super reliable, excellent low speed response and you'll get decent fuel economy. The Performer intake is an excellent choice as well.

What's the best way to fix aluminum intake threaded hole for temp gauge sending unit?

Find the next size larger NPT thread. Use a vaccum or grease on the drill to catch the chips. When tapping, pack grease in the flutes to catch the chips. Keeps then out of the cooling system. Install the bushing with a PST paste sealer. Then the same for the sender. The paste fills the gaps...

Old thread, my 66 Dart has the clifford setup/intake,aluminum valve cover, headers, stewart warner gauges, all was done in 2003. Not by me. Except for the new Edelbrock 500 I put on 3 months ago to replace the old 500. Whoever did the car, did it right.
