    Different racing setups "Abodies"

Have a friend that went low 14's with a 318 2bbl bbd (on a 360 or 318, I can't remember) in a D100 Dodge truck (I think 4k lbs). However, stock eliminator cam, stall, gears.

    Timing Chain

A 340 cam does work great in a 273, 318, and came from the factory in all 340's and high performance 360s. A cam has so much to do with how your engine runs, I would always recommend calling a couple cam companies and talk to them. You need to be honest with yourself and all the particulars of...

1971 Swinger 318, conversion to a 6cyl/special motor mounts needed

My 66 Barracuda was born with a 273. When I got it there was a 360 in the engine bay. I wanted to go fast so I installed a 170 slant six :)

    318LA build

Hello all and happy memorial day, I have a 318 LA engine that I'm rebuilding, it ran fine but leaked everywhere. I'm using flat top pistons and the stock heads so my question is how big of a cam can I put in this with the stock heads? I'm aware I'll have to change the valve springs which I was...

    318 cam

I have heard in my travels that, with a LA 318 the stock cam is best in terms of economy reliability and power. Stock lift on an LA 318 cam is below .400" I know most wont want to accept that but , I'd bet there is something to it. Without heads, ( and I don't mean ported stock 318 heads, I mean...

    Horsepower Estimate?

I'm not trying to change your mind think whatever you want. I just don't agree. How's a 360 with modded 318 heads, and a cam about the stock size as a 340 cam with a terrible intake anything like the OP's engine? And it even made 305 hp. Let's put a mild 8.2:1 360 on the dyno. I think the 340...

    318 gurus/historians

To be honest, I love everything old school Mopar. But the 318 is my all time favorite engine, for exactly the reasons I've outlined. A mild cam, a set of closed chamber heads, and they are peppy enough for daily beater duty. I currently have 20 318s, a few 360s, half a dozen 383s, two 400s...

Making power out of the 318

I don’t bother recommending cams. For a long time now. It’s not the pissing matches that idk me but it’s ether splitting of hairs on similar cam specs or its wildly different and sometimes absurd cam recommendations. Now, if asked, directly or via a thread, it’s just a general recommendation...

    Cylinder wall weld??

that's a whole bunch of cam for a 318 with that compression... the heads and intake will support it and you likely already have a converter and gears seeing that you were previously running a 408. but, still, that's a bunch of cam without the cubes and compression to make the magic.

    SB vs BB who wins?

I like 318s. It's a 5.2L v8. Put good heads, cam, intake and it'll rip. Plenty of 500 hp LS5.3s around. A 318 is a good set of heads away from the same glory.

Steve Dulcich on building a budget 318

Well remember, 318 guys are always citing " budget" I figure if I need the 360 heads why not look for a whole engine....? I do realize the value of a closed chamber aftermarket aluminum head though on the 318 . I personally would not grind and port a 318 cast iron head unless I could flow test...

    Cam Swap - 318/5.2L Magnum V8 - '65 Barracuda

Hello there! I’m new to the group here and I came across your post. Been a few years I understand but I’m looking for some education on doing the same exact thing as you mention with a 5.2 magnum in place of a 273/ 2 barrel in my 1965 barracuda. If and when you have time of course, any advice or...

    920 heads - What Cam?

Ok you don't like the 340 cam which is fine there's a ton of options out there, What about a comp cam xe250h with a 51* IVC or maybe grind stock one similar on a 108 if possible? Does anyone even make a stock spec 340 cam anymore?
  15. 273

    Horsepower Estimate?

I see it the other way around they unlock 80 hp. The stock 340 x heads are good for about 400 hp gross with a reasonable build. So say a stock 340 does make 275 hp gross so there's 125 hp waiting to be unleashed what's mainly holding it back, Cam, Exhaust, Carb etc.. why wouldn't they add...

    Intake manifold questions

I ran one of those when I pulled my 318 out of my 1976 dodge van and built a 360 For it back in the late 1970’s. J or X heads, aftermarket pistons and towing cam, headers and a 650 Holley. She ran and towed great.

    For the W5 lovers

Never heard one person say the 1.88 valve 340 head was the way to go for a 340 and see people swap out the X heads for that ground pounding torque of the mighty 1.88 valve. To me you can't just look at the head it's the whole combo but especially head and cam being the main two factors. What...

    Stop in for a drink.

Just filling in for Karl. . Pulled the heads off today. Going back together tomorrow. Debating if I should put it back the way it is, or put the Weiand intake and valve covers on I have been saving for the 318 Roller cam motor.

SBE 318 basic rebuild +CAM , INTAKE, HEADS, expectations?

on a 9.5:1 318 with ported 302's and a MP P4452761 (.450/.455 268/272 110LSA) with a performer RPM and 750 3310 i laid down a respectable 330hp @ 5750 with aftermarket heads and a airgap, i don't see why you couldn't be in the 350 range as long as keep the compression up. chasing much more than...

Used 318 roller cam and hyd roller lifters out of '85 or '86 Chrysler. $175 shipping included to US contiguous. Perhaps a good candidate for an Oregon Cam performance regrind? Since no one was interested in the complete 318 I've been offering I decided maybe someone some of semi-desirable...

273 swap to 318/ build, cost, potential, daily driver

The deal breaker for me is the expensive intake manifold needed for the Magnum engines. Your car uses a complex kickdown system that would have to be addressed. If the car is a factory air car-some of the compressor mounting points won't be there on that new intake. The electric fuel pump, the...

    Thermoquad tuning on 318

Right now there are two issues I am facing: stumble right off idle and major bog when secondaries open. Idle mixture screws set for highest vacuum (21" Hg). Accelerator pump in either position did not affect situation. Metering rods adjusted 2 rotations from bottomed out. Air valve wound up...

    Better Torque From A 318

What power level you trying to get? Sounds like streetaability is important to you so probably 0.8 to 0.9+ hp per cid about 256-290 hp. Not really that hard there's slightly different ways to get there, mainly different head and cam combos, less flow more cam, more under .450/.500" flow less...
