If you can pull a valve cover, you can pull an engine. Don't be ridiculous. These cars are OLD and SIMPLE. Get you a factory service manual and READ it cover to cover. You'll see how easy it is. Didn't you learn to read and write? Wasn't that over your head before you learned?

Those numbers are extremely even and strong for the age of that engine. There's no way in hades I'd rebuild it. I'd reseal it like @toolmanmike said and drive it.

Yep, post pics of valve train here in this post to keep it I would be leery of driving it until the issue is resolved, just to be safe.
