Must have been a long time ago. Three years ago, they were going for $700-$800. The aftermarket ones were going for around $500. If your car is not a "SHOW" car than headers work better with 2.5" pipe and Walkers Turbos mufflers. This is my set up in my van.

TTi makes headpipes for the 340 manifolds, but they don't have collector flanges on them. You could add the flanges to the headpipes or leave them off the exhaust system and just hook them up with slipjoints. They're kinda pricey for what they are, though. I would think a local exhaust shop...

People go with 318s cause they cheap or free...they never were powerhouses unless you are easily impressed. Will they sound good in a Scamp? yes will the Scamp do a "burnout" yes will the Scamp do a 13 sec quarter mile with a stock 318 ? no would it with a stock 340? probably...that's why I look...

If you search here, all that has been discussed. All the numbers and any modifications to do. The only reason for the Jeep manifolds is because the right manifold exit is close to 2 1/2" . 67-70 340 manifolds aren't a issue (if I have my dates right)

Most people can't envision past what the factory deemed performance engines anyways, bet if the 318 came built with high CR 340 specs there would be less debates on here. I bet the 340 have less love, but that has little effect on it's capability.

...i wouldn't say that headers would be "necessary" for your application and intended power goals, but i would certainly recommend it, or 340 manifolds if you've got those on the shelf. will shorties be better than manifolds, sure but not by a wide margin. it's up to you to decide if that...

That was average a few years ago. Nice pairs are a easy $600+. Look at what they do and how easily they do it. If you don't want to screw with headers on a mild street engine, they are a good alternative.

I have TTI's on my 65, doesn't look to me like the master cylinder is any closer to the headers than it was to the 340 manifolds I used to run. I did fabricate new brake lines from the m/c down to the combination valve, which I had to move to the rear to get it out of the way of the headers.

I was told the gaskets will not hold up when using 273 manifolds on a 340/360 head but if there was never a problem then i will put 273 manifolds on my 360 build in my 65 barracuda

Probably true, but my 340's power noticeably improved just swapping from OEM to Edelbrock heads on my 340, while keeping the stock exhaust manifolds. Of course, it runs better now that it has headers.

I could never figure out why. I put a set of Mickey Thompson Try Y's on my 73 Challenger. 340 car. I didn't do any carb tuning after the install but I slowed down a few hundredths. It went faster with stock manifolds and full exhaust.
