okay i stumpled aver this Six Pack and the price was right. I know a 340s would be cool but the only thing i have is a 318 which i plan to rebuild the cheap way. Hone it, , new rings and so on, a basic re reing job.

What you guys think, is it a bad idea to use the sixpack in this ? And if the answer is yes , what cam should i use?
Car will be a 66 Barracuda with a 904 automatic not sure about the rear end ratio. Converter stock.

you can put a 6-pack on a 318. Many have run dual quads on 318's, so why not a 6 pack if that's what you want....

The problem with this is, once you put a six pack on a 318 it will expose the 340 cult to the fact that a 318 runs just as good and then they will have nothing to talk about in 318 threads anymore :)

enjoy :)

BTW, what is the "right price" cause if it's over 1k i would skip it.. for what your specs are that you posted it will literally be throwing money away.. also for 1k i would buy it and relist it for 3k...

So while on the subject didn't the six pack deliver about 20 more horse than the 340 4 barrel on the AAR and TA 340 with the modified pushrod hole 915J heads? may as well get onto heads OP will need more than just cam to make this setup actually produce.

It will deliver cool factor though.. won't lie, i kinda want one just to have it :) but i know it wouldn't do much for me but give me more places to leak or have issues.. still cool though other than the price

The correct answer is, round yourself up a 360 and some better heads and THEN......................

Hell, if you don’t have enough engine for it, Just block off the 2 outboard carbs and run it as a 2 barrel. No one will know the difference and those setups seem to just keep going up in price.

yeah, just looked.. Mancini wants 3600 for a brand new setup.. and guys are asking more than that for used (prolly cause numbers).. if i found one for like 1200 i would consider it but meh..

340 envy??

Truth is the 6 pack has 2 of the carbs working off of vacuum.
Not always all the time. After market carbs (what was used on Mr Norms cars) and direct connection carbs were all mechanical.
Just depends on what you want to end up with, and how much $$$ you want to spend.

Never understood why folks look down on a 318. If a 302 ford and 327 Chevy can make power why not a 318? Yes it has smaller heads (in most situations) Low compression (unless you got an early one) and probably has a 2 barrel intake and shitty exhaust manifolds (performance wise) but rebuild it and as said many time will make power, just at a higher RPM than the 340 and 360.

Put the 6 pack on, be happy, if its functional.

People go with 318s cause they cheap or free...they never were powerhouses unless you are easily impressed. Will they sound good in a Scamp? yes will the Scamp do a "burnout" yes will the Scamp do a 13 sec quarter mile with a stock 318 ? no would it with a stock 340? probably...that's why I look down on a 318 I cant speak for others...

It's about power in the upper rpm range 318 wasn't designed for that. The amount of money and screwing around with a 318 to get it there doesn't add up. That's why
K, i do have a question and this is just a question not an attack.... a 318 is pistons and a crank, if you put on good heads/cam/springs that's the same as you do on any motor to spin rpm, what is holding a 318 back from high rpm compared to a 340 if cam/heads/springs are equal?

If I wanted a 6 pack and I had a 318 I wouldn't think twice, I'd install it.
I put a pair of 600 eddies on a 318, with stock exhaust manifolds, stock converter, and 2.76 gears. Ran just fine

A 327 2 barrel was rated at 235 horse. Huh! My 273-4 barrel was rated the same. According to the information below, the 318 did pretty good for itself against Chevy's 327.

"The last iteration of the 327 appeared in 1969 with a two-barrel carburetor and a 9-to-1 compression ratio that produced 235 horsepower and 325 foot pounds of torque."
