...own special animal that a number of people have “been there, done that” on what the low hanging fruit would be. I personally would put exhaust manifolds down the list some. This just comes from my personal experience running 340 manifolds. Not the same animal, but under estimated just the same.

I think my hi comp 340 268 manifolds sounds better but iam partial all you hear is engine :)

This is an extremely nice pair of 340 exhaust manifolds. Fully intact. No cracks or damage and very very little pitting. They were removed many years ago by original owner in favor of headers. $1250 plus actual shipping from Bolton Ct.

I ran it for years in my 340 Barracuda. Not terribly impressed. Just with a Wieand Action Plus, Holley 1850 and stock AVS carb, hipo manifolds, stock converter, original “advertised 10:1” pistons, 3.23 gears. All highway got about 14-16 mpg out of it going across country

TTI makes mandrel bent head pipes for the 340 manifolds that are a full 2 1/2 inches no pinches or dents and they clear everything just fine.

68-70 were the good 340 manifolds. In 71 they became much more restrictive. I doubt the 71+ 340 manifolds flow any more or less than a 360 manifold. Rule of thumb on A body header is if the steering linkage goes through them they will drag on bumps.

Did you use them on a stock magnum head? Maybe this is the answer.

the early 340 manifolds are the best ones out there. you can have them extrude honed but talking with a F.A.S.T class guy years ago he said that it made no difference. long tube headers will make more power 68-70 manifold part numbers. #2863549 #2863553

Looking at possibly putting a set of 2.02 X heads on my 72 340 . It is bone stock cast crank low compression factory cast iron intake factory exhaust manifolds 600 Edelbrock factory torque converter 904 auto I recently put a set of 3:73 gears in it . Just curious if I will feel any HP gains...

The passengers side '71 340 was more restrictive lower flowing then the '68-'70 pass side. '71 drivers side flowed as much as the earlier ones.

When I bought the manifolds they were painted. When I stripped the paint off this writing was on there. Not sure of the accuracy but it seems like a partial vin for the 340 Duster these came from.

Eight and a half mph in the quarter is about 75 horsepower. You did NOT get 75 horsepower from a header swap on your car. Maybe, if going from logs and a single 1 3/4 exhaust on a hi-perf 440 you could get 75 out of headers and good exhaust.

Good find. I run some 340 manifolds on my R/T heads and had to get adapter cut like mentioned in that post. Some of what it comes down to is how the heads were cast. When I was putting my motor together, a buddy of mine had a set of Magnum heads on the bench and the material around the port...

But that passenger side exhaust pipe still looks too close to the torsion bar to me. Unfortunately, I no longer am running the early 340 manifolds (TTI headers now), so can't say for sure. Might just be that the pipe is bent incorrectly.

that's subjective. conclusive tests have shown that 340 manifolds are perfectly cromulent pieces for mild and warmed over builds with no real appreciable loss of HP or TQ in those applications. if fit, ease of install and price are concern 340 manifolds are a great choice. because you...

In the near future I plan on swapping out 273 for 340. Exhaust will be upgraded eventually, but in the meantime for breakin can I use the factory 273 manifolds on the 340? Foresee any issues? Thanks Steve

That's what I bolted into my fairly stock 340 build (9.75:1 compression, stock manifolds, Eddy intake and AVS 650 carb, 3.55 4 speed). I've run it on the test stand...not much of a lope but sounds good. I'm sure I could get more out of the engine but that wasn't the point. If I recall...

In my opinion, the '72 & '73 340 manifold is a 360 manifold of the same era. Later the 360 manifolds had the smog ports.
