Hi Mopar fans
I got a question about winter storage for my ´65 Barracuda.
Her in Finland the winter get -30 degrees Celsius = really cold.
Is it better to store it in a heated garage over winter or in a cold storage. My worries is for the condensation.
In the heated storage its only +7...
Yes, because when it comes to engines I´m kind of a rookie. Body and paint are my strong sides :)
I now reading a book every night before going to bed, How to hot rod your small block Mopar engine :)
And I´m learning all the time
Usually you can spray clear coats over the base color if it comes from the same maker. And if you do, you can have the paintshop to blend the base coat without activator, because you got the activator in the clear coat.
With futher investigations of the forged crank, I belive it came out of a 273. The casting numbers is very hard to see, but the two first ones is 21. According to my books that would be a early 273 crank.
The bearings do not look very good at it. A polish would not be enough. Then, someone has...
Last weekend I purchased a block. 318 with cast number
4006730-318-4
Along came the crank, damper, oilpump, waterpump, oilpan, cam drive and valve covers.
Which crank do you recommend, the one that belongs to the block or the forged one?
Thank you for that very informative knowledge. I will take your suggestions under consideration. Becasue it is very rare to balance engines here. Te racers take the cranks to Sweden for that operaton = a lot of money.
The 273 in my Barracuda was the 2-barrel 180 hp. Now I have a Holley 600 dp, Edelbrock Dual Plane and the 714 heads. Hydralic cam (do not know any numbers) 0,30 overbore and stock exaust manifold but with a 2 1/2 " double exaust systems with flow trou mufflers.
What kind of effect may this...
This is a long time project because the garage is occpied by my restoration of the Meteor ´59. Therefore I was planning to build the Barracuda-engine while driving the Barracuda, therefore a need two cranks. Otherwise I think the 273 would get the job done.
But where do I find the adaptors...
Today the car has a weak 7 1/4 rear but a 8 3/4 with lock waits in the garage. If I´m not misstaken it could be a 3.23.
What rpm when a drive 100 km/h (60 mph) I do not know. The wheels are 14" Cragar SS with 235/60 tires.
