    relay powered voltage regulator ?

I'm looking at doing this same mod on my 73 Duster after talking to Mark from MAD electrical, too. I've already done the alternator bypass and I just finished running my headlight relays. He actually sent me a diagram of how to install the relay, but I'm still kind of confused as to what wire...

    High Voltage

The VR casing is the ground right? I added a 10 ga wire from one of the mounting screws to the battery because I suspected ground might be the issue as it is not bare metal there. The ground to the block is a 4ga, but the only chasis ground I've seen on it is a 10ga to a mounting screw for the...

    High Voltage

I'm reading 14.2v at the blue wire and 15.3v at the battery. So I'm guessing I have a voltage drop or wiring issue. I used 16 gauge wire to replace the blue field wire and ran it back to the factory splice and soldered it in there. Should I switch to 10/12 gauge wire?

    High Voltage

Hey guys, I'm having a problem (we'll I've had a few problems) while fixing some wiring that burned up on my 73 Duster w/ 318. Initially, I did the MAD electrical ammeter bypass, replaced all the wiring on my alternator, bought a new voltage regulator and a new 78 Amp alternator. Once I...

Hi guys, I replaced my cap and rotor, one wire at a time and now my car won't start, just back fires. I've done this before on other cars with no problems. I got out and had a look. I noticed that there was part of a zip tie in my carb. I had to cut off a bunch of zip ties that were holding...

Ignition Coil swapped and now she's running fine after a quick carb adjustment. So, I've swapped the Ignition box, ignition coil, ballast resistor and fuel filter, but now she's running great. Thanks for all your help guys.

I bought an MSD ignition coil and removed the accel one that was installed and noticed an oil leak from my oil pressure gage line. The coil was a bit covered in oil. I was wondering if anyone one knew what the piece in this picture was. I didn't notice it was installed and I removed it and...

I finally found the time to conduct a compression test and all of my cylinders were between 130 and 140. That's normal right? So should I still suspect an ignition problem?

Does it matter if I run the engine before or not? The instructions on the box tell me too.

    318 problems

I bought the car 2 and a half years ago and I was told the engine was rebuilt 3 years prior. Of course, two months after I bought it, I had a head gasket blow. I put 5000 miles on it, so at best guess I'd say 30,000... but really I have no idea. I'm going to go get a loaner compression tester...

Changed my ballast resistor, ignition box, and fuel filter and the problem still persists. I have to run a really rich to keep it running. It hasn't backfired since the first time though. I guess the next step is to change the ignition coil.

Thanks for the welcome. This is my first post, but with as many problems as I get with my Duster and as much technical knowledge as you guys seem to have, I'm sure it won't be my last.

So do I have to replace rods? To switch to MSD, do I just change out the ignition box or is it a little more involved than that?

Thanks alot guys, I'm going to check out my ignition box, hopefully tomorrow. I do have a ballast resistor in my tool box, so I'll knock that out too. I run an edelbrock carb, but would the back fire still indicate a blown valve or something in my carb?

Hi, I own a '73 duster with a 318, but I am having some issues with it. I was driving down the highway when I heard a loud bang and my engine shut off. I pulled over to the shoulder and turned it over, it started right up. I got off highway and looked under the hood, but I didn't see...
