Is building a stroked 318 better than a stroked 340/360?

The 340 X Block you had was the one to build. Even took common 318 mounts. Was a heavy high nickel block with weight added in all the right places. Only the R Blocks were better. I would try and buy it back.

Low Dollar 318 Grand Finale Exit !!

I’m excited to see the results! I’ve got an identical setup to your original 318 build, but in a 66 Dart GT convertible. Gonna run some compression tests, pull the heads and see if the block/pistons/rings are in good enough shape to do a similar build to yours. I’m a little doubtful though, it a...

    318 Magnum Dropped Valve

So very disappointed! Just about to finish my build on my 1965 Dart GT while fine tuning the engine #8 dropped a valve. The 302 heads have been completely rebuilt and I have maybe 15 minutes on the engine. What is the possibility that I also bent #8 rod, damaged the wrist pin or anything else...

CNC Ported Heads for 318 Poly?

There is/was a fella on the B body site that went to town on porting the poly head on his build. Sorry I can’t remember his name. He was doing unusual stuff for his build. Custom domed pistons etc… I hang out with Charlie Servedio in which you can copy and paste into the YouTube search bar to...

    69 valiant build

Hello gentlemen! In the past I've really only ever used this forum for questions. Just wanted to share a few pictures and information of my build. I bought this car almost a year ago, has a pre magnum hydraulic roller 318 with the 302 heads. Motor is stock just has summit headers a torker 340...

Is building a stroked 318 better than a stroked 340/360?

Thin cylinder walls and thin decks don’t play well with boost. Ask me how I know. Build a solid foundation whichever base you choose to start from. Id rather have thick, strong, round bores than bigger bores. Is a 318 stroker better than……..NO. But that doesn’t mean it’s any worse either.

Making power out of the 318

Not to say a 273 will make more power, and they can depending on the builds, I just like them better. I used to be the king of cheap. To get a cheap engine that revs, I would get the best factory heads and run them on the smallest engine. That way, you don't need a cam to really make an...

New to mow par x ford guy

Depends what you want, there's kind of two ways to look at it different displacement built over similar powerbands say idle-5,000 rpms with the right parts the larger engine will generally make more power across the the entire idle-5,000 rpms, a 5,000 rpm peak hp will give about 0.9-1 peak hp...

What do you think about this 318 guys.

I will be building a 318, but it is 3rd on the list behind a couple projects that need completed. I have most of the parts already for the 318 build.

318 and 360 small block question

Hello there FABO, I wanted to ask people on here who have some knowledge about building small block 318's and 360's, what their opinions and recommendations would be on building a reliable motor for a daily driver. What are the advantages and disadvantages of both small blocks? Which motor...

318 and 360 small block question

Unless you have real desire to do a 318, you would be better of with a 360. For any given power level a 360 will be more streetable have better idle, part throttle etc.., plus better at daily driving street rpms 1500-3500+ and will need less gear, stall for similar performance, Also can build...

63 Dodge Dart, now let me see;)

That is one clean 318 . Did you get the 904 for it ? Nice thing about the 318 is its internally balanced . That manifold is the one I mentioned it allows room for the a/c compressor. Dang it Dne’ now I’m going to have to build a run stand for my 5.3 and 360 . Good thing I have the proper...

    Wiring Aftermarket Gauges

I am installing an Autogauge 2 5/8"gauge pod (water temp, oil pressure and voltmeter) and tachometer in my '75 318 Duster as part of my "Day 2" look build. I've the mechanical part done, now starting on the electrical hookups. Does anyone have suggestions on what wires to splice into for the...

Anyone Run a Crane Z-268-2 Cam in their 318?

I have a similar 318 build with 8.7-1 compression, 2.02 J heads, and I used the Comp Cams XE268 that has similar specs to yours. I installed it 4 degrees advanced and it has excellent low end performance. Out of steam by 5500 but that’s ok. Just make sure the valve springs are spec’d to the cam...

Could this idea work ? Did other guys did this ? 318 infos

look at these 400-425 hp 318 make about the same tq at 3000 rpm with more head cam etc.. even at 2000 rpm bet these engines are on par or better than the stock 2bbl 318, not saying don't build it your way but generally stock low power engine gonna make the least amount of torque all but maybe...

Making power out of the 318

And for some reason except for that 318 I did in school ice always had much better luck, dependability and service out of 318s over 360s.... Most 360s I have had have been nothing but thirsty pigs that haven't been able to get out of their own way. I've had a "360 build" in my head for a while...

Are we getting more for our money??

I remember couple of neighbors having vans. ONe was a 318 TQ, had 246k on it then caught fire. The other was at 306k when I last looked. Not sure what happened to it eventually. They both worked at the same place and had riders along the way getting there.... Both maxi vans and usually...

Is building a stroked 318 better than a stroked 340/360?

Yep, it's what you have and what you want to build. Why do people build slants or 273's. Because they can. I likevthe idea of a 390. It's an underdog. Everybody builds 408's. 415's not as much because of availability.

    318 low-rpm performance ........... for the NEWBE

I had a Crane 272/284-216/228-454/480-112 in a 318 twice. I agree with AJ. 220 or better. Under 220, I’d call it enhanced performance. Bigger bore directly impacts HP possibility but it’s not huge or a big factor until you really start twisting up the engine. That’s the whole thing AJ missed...

Making power out of the 318

yes, and no. i loves me some 318's but with his intended goal of 400hp that's just not feasible withing the constraints of the budget he's put forth. hence, 360. if you read my other post, what it really hinges on is the 318 might be crap and starting out with a 360 could very well put him in...

Making power out of the 318

If not open to running the required gear and stall, I'll build around the gear and stall compromise you set. Main problem when building smaller displacement is they gonna need generally more gear stall rpm etc. for example a 318 will need about 13% more gear, stall, peak rpm etc.. Than a...
