    Stock Cam Question

IDK; I wonder what Mr. Shepard was thinking. I've run that 252* cam in a stock low-compression 318 and discovered a few things. 1) in at split overlap, the cylinder pressure drops like a stone compared to the stock cam, and 2) if I advanced it to get the pressure back, it sucked gas 3) if I...

    LOOKIN FOR PISTONS (318)

I wouldn't say those cams were "poor", there are just better choices, especially for the small cube engines. The big Thumpr cams can just kill bottom end torque in a small cube engine. I would look at one of the smaller Lunati Voodoo cams, if going flat tappet.

All for .370 lift and under ........

Emissions Mopar 318, Chevy 305 and Ford 302 all had cams with reduced lift as compared to the 350CID relatives. Low vaccum, low power, low fuel economy and poor driveability, especially when combined with an OD transmission. I bought a 1982 Blazer with the 305 4v carb. It got 12.5 US MPG. I put...

    273/ 2 barrel camshaft options

Just so you know; a 318 is just the equivalent of a big-bore 318. So, anything off a 318 , except the piston assemblies, will swap over. Except the 65 and older heads, sorta need the matching bolt-angle intake. So then; if you intend to put a 4bbl on it, at some time in the future, IMO, I would...

    Comp's XE Cams

You posting this like it's a 100% fact, be nice for you to find some dyno evidence to support this, the basic premise is true low cr, bigger cams, smaller displacement, higher gears, low stall all can hurt performance especially low end, but the question is where are the lines and or acceptable...

    Sixpack on a 318 engine ?

As for camming it, this will depend a lot on the rest of the combo, and specifically on the compression ratio/ cylinder pressure, but includes things like the convertor, tites, and, rear gears . If you are running an 8/1 engine, with an 039 gasket, yur already down under 8/1. With the factory...

    Disappointing dyno results

Hi dartfreak75. Thanks for the inquiry. So much time and effort went into this build I am truly depressed with the results. At the moment have lost all momentum to continue. I am a very detailed person by nature. It's not that it's difficult to disassemble the engine; quite easy. It's the...

    Vintage drag race question

I wouldn't use these as a formula to imitate, unless you want the drivability of a race car, back in the day 1 hp per cid was a fairly radical engine now days you can do it fairly mild, heads is the biggest factor in doing this, heads that make good power with mild cams is gonna be more...

    318 power!

It’s all in what you don’t understand and I’m not the best at it ether. However, when you start in with the math, the correct numbers have to be entered and not assumed. Fact check his cam card and what he did with it installed wise. To much faith in calculators is a huge problem. And then you...

    Comp's XE Cams

Hi Dan! Friend; almost any high lift flat-tappet cam is gonna be "hard" on the stock valvetrain, and often noisy, as compared to the stock parts, which were mostly dead quiet. How "hard" will depend on how extreme you go, and the willingness of the parts to play nice together, and the level of...

    904: should I switch to 727?

I've burnt out more 904s in stock daily driving than I can shake a stick at. I've never had a "race" car, put mild cams and 4 bbls on a few but that's about it. I've swapped 727s in place of 904s whenever there was a 727 available. Problems solved. 318, 2bbl, 2.xx gears even.... And I have not...

    Cams for 318's

650 cfm carb is fine even for a stock 318, cam I'd go with a comp xe250 biggest I'd go is the xe262. They do xe256 if you want split the difference or cams of similar specs. Here's a stock longblock xe262 cam making 282hp @ 5000 rpm 318 Long Block Bolt Ons - Tech Articles - Mopar Muscle Magazine

    Slant 6 4bbl Carb Selection

for what it's worth, if it's primarily a street motor with a mild cam, you may want to even look at the Aussiespeed 2bbl manifold that has a 2300 holley bolt pattern. might work better and give you more efficiency for the street. another consideration would be since a new AVS is $500, for a...

High torque 360 LA build camshaft recommendations

I know of someone who runs an Isky mile-a-mor Mile-A-Mor Cam [3901M] - $208.00 : ISKY Racing Cams, Do It Right with an Offenhauser dual port intake in a '78 truck 318 and is really happy with the end result.

    3.58 stroke x 340 main (rods/pistons?)

Yeah, I originally bought the cast crank for a 318 stroker that was to go into a truck. It was for a truck that would probably never see the high side of 4500, and i just wanted more grunt to pull a camper, and i wanted to fo it on the cheap. The crank I got on sale. I thought building a stroker...

Trying to throw together a 318 magnum for dirt oval track. I switched classes so I can no longer run a roller cam. Magnum Exhaust Manifolds in an A Body

Engines with lack bottom end power?

Take the 6 318 builds one makes 282hp with xe262h 3 make about 400 hp with cams from xe268h to 280h all 4 make 335tq at 3000 rpm and one makes 425hp with xe275hl 355tq at 3000 rpm and the 477 hp comp solid 247/247 .622/.592 makes 350 tq at 3000 rpm and 335 tq at 2500 rpm over the stock 318 2bbl...

Looking for more pep off the line

Definately a good street cam. Comp Cams description and specs: XE268H - 10 For 273 to 360 LA engines. That is a fairly wide CID spread. In a 273 it should be fairly lumpy while in a 360 it should be fairly smooth. That sentence is my comment. At 0.050 tappet lift; I 224°, E 230°. Adv'd...

    318 low-rpm performance ........... for the NEWBE

So I look up comp xe250h specs (I'd say good choice for mild 318) and ran it through the Wallace V/P DCR calculator, AJ got with stock 8.1 318, 140 psi 7.1 DCR and V/P 116, with the xe250h I got 137 psi 6.98 DCR and V/P 111 nothing to write about but for the power gain I doubt this slight loss...

    Engine swap 318 to 360

If you want to go slow and make less power than a stock 360, put a 318 carb, intake and heads on your 360...and don't forget to stick the 318 cam in there too. :realcrazy:

    Cams for 318's

Agreed. It's speculative. Adding a bigger cam to a Teen rarely get's tested on a dyno or drag strip. I would like to do a little testing myself. A few passes on weekend with the duals and my 2 barrel. In a week or two, a few runs with a 4 barrel and LD4B only. Then a cam change and another test...
