Anyone Run a Crane Z-268-2 Cam in their 318?

I literally just stuck one in over the long weekend. I'm at 10-1 318 60 over. I'll let you know how it goes.

Anyone Run a Crane Z-268-2 Cam in their 318?

That’ll have a mostly smooth idle and make OK decent power. I ran a very similar Crane cam in a stock long block ‘79 - 318, 904,w/3.21 gears, hooker headers into a Jegs dual exhaust, LD4B and a 600 Holley. With regular stock sized tires it could get into the high 14’s easy enough. Traction was...

    920 heads - What Cam?

you sound a little more cruiser than bruiser, and not looking to hit your power peak at 5K while you bang shift to the speed limit. i'm *guessing* that you've got a 4bbl carb w/ dual exhaust. if not, no biggie. these will still work, but they'd work more better-er with the usual hot rod things...

    340 intake on 318

Similar to the bigger heads. Stock ports only go so far and seeing how they were not intended for racing……. Totally agree. Unless someone just wants to learn how to port an iron head…. That’s on them and I say happy porting to them. I hear ya there!

    Hypothetical 318 Builds

Compression at 10 vs 7.5 stock is what you are seeing. Stick that same cam in a stock 318 and it would not even spin the tires in snow.

    318 cam

I've ran the 6901 in a 318 and it does work with stock 318 LA heads and valve springs. Its ok for the street , not saying its a high revver like a 340...I dont think youd get the top end RPMS with 318 heads anyway but I am verifying the K 6901 works in a 318 . It is what it is. My set up was...

can anyone help me get an extra 200 hp out of my stock 340 what parts do i need to change or what never can get anyone that i talk to with a straight

Here is a good cam for your target if you do go on the boost path. Howards Cams, Street Force Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshaft, Chrysler SB 273-360/318, 225/235 @ .050, .465/.470, 112 LS - Competition Products I do like the thought of a blow through pro charger setup, especially if you are open...

    Boosted slant?

You say that you're running an intercooler, so can I assume you are running blow thru and not draw thru? I'm planning at least initially to get it running on a 318 BBD carb so I was looking to start out with draw thru. 5-7 psi was about what I had in mind. Are you running a stock cam? I had...

New guy with M300 mini motorhome.

Here is a simple 4 barrel adapter that works quite well with the stock 2 barrel manifold. Have used them multiple times with great results. Don't have to pull intakes or change cams, works fine with the stock cam stock engine. '69 318 with 4 bbl adapter. Nice improvement on performance...

    Tuning

I’ve stabbed small cams in smogger engines before. The power increase is disappointing but there. Mostly seen and felt is the rpm band moving upwards. A lot of things hold the engine back from a nice improvement from the cam swap. Low compression Small valves Less than ideal cylinder head...

    Big horsepower 318 builds

What you are saying is what is true of any engine. Heads, induction and camshaft. There are 300 inch comp eliminator motors that make 800 horse or thereabouts. Mopar short deck W8 deals. Really the only variables are bore and stroke as to the limiters to the output. To me, the big limiter with...

    Roller LA cam into Magnum?

Absolutely. It's the best way to get a mechanical fuel pump onto a Magnum, once you get an LA timing cover on it. It's actually a nice mild upgrade for the Magnum, as the LA cam specs are based on a 1.5:1 rocker ratio, and the Magnum uses 1.6:1. Truth be known, the 318 roller cam is a bit...

    very mild 360 build.

Stock 360-2bbl melling cam is spd25. I think the 340 cam is spd22. I've used a couple of those 25s before in 318s, noticeable win power, idles like stock 318 cam. Exactly the same thing as the comp 252 minus 0.015" lift. Duration and overlap are dead nuts the same as the comp at a cheaper price...

    Not sure what to do

To me there's two main ways to look at a performance build. 1st, build to a certain hp, and for the most part a 318 is basically just as capable as other engines for the general hp most build to, but generally you need more rpm and all that comes with it, stall, gears, idle etc.. Which may or...

    Cams for Dummies ??

I had delta cams grind a hydraulic for my 318 4 bbl. Is 208/214 on 111 and it starts and runs very well with an 800cfm Rochester and early 318 heads. Years ago I too bough an Erson tq 30 by recommendation for my 340 4 speed and it was a turd. swapped to an Isky 280 mega and saw the light!

    Good Cam for 318

Yet another 318 cam thread that has the OP going from a .400 lift cam to a .500 lift on the first page. ...and all the other stuff. I didn't even have time to get the popcorn smiley out. I'd look at those Summit 6900/6901 cams, or for a more modern grind, the Comp XE 256 or Lunati equivalent.

    318 low-rpm performance ........... for the NEWBE

The 318 takes all the parts a 340/360 basically can, on some max effort the bore is gonna limit it. But for the general hp were talking about a 318 should be able to build similar to stall to shift point hp as the others just gonna be at a higher rpm generally. Now if we limit it like factory...

    Cams for 318's

318 cams are one thing but is there any positive deck height .030 over pistons to up compression for the LA 318? Last I looked there wasn't much to choose from in pistons and nothing was that inexpensive.

    318 cam

If you look at post #17 stock 318 with 4bbl headers and comp xe262h cam, it ain't hard to imagine how a xe250h and xe256h or similar cams would respond, the down low rpms 3500 and under probably pretty similar, above probably a drop of 10-15 ish hp for each step down and a loss of peak hp rpm by...

    318 power!

GTX JOHN said that his 318 has a compression ratio of 8.5:1. I used the Wallace Dynamic Compression Ratio Calculator, I put in all of the required information, I used a 72* ivc because he said that his cam has lots of duration so I checked out cams and the one's that had 300 plus degrees of...

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

That’s bad advertising, I’m not DV fan boy, but he’s probably had a big influence on how I think about performance engines since I got all his books. I’m sure you could do a lot worse and like for him for it’s about the whole car not just the engine. Funny thing when people recommend cams on...

273 swap to 318/ build, cost, potential, daily driver

The Magnum engines are better tech, are low cost and easy to obtain. The 360 is preferred because its bigger. The bores of either 318 or 360 Magnum most of the time are very healthy due to coming from a fuel injected engine- no flooding and washing down of cylinders like an LA engine with a...

    Horsepower Estimate?

245 hp is net hp, when talking built hp most are talking in dyno trim, which at very least is no accessories best tune, generally headers. Most engines in dyno trim are at least 30 + hp gross above net. 25 degrees ain't a small cam upgrade, generally we consider about a 5 degree bump as the...

    Basic 318 Mods

Things to consider: Opinions vary on what is "spunky". It's hard for us to ration what is spunky to you. You have to determine what is spunky for you. I ran 15.9's with a stock 318 2bbl in a b-body. It would fry the tire through any intersection if I wanted it to. It was not my fastest 318...

    Comp's XE Cams

Agreed. Dan did ask about cams and does often. The largest cam I’d suggest for Dan (If he or anyone is asking or wondering) would be a 208@050 as it would not effect off idle performance when ether lightly pressing on the gas pedal or hitting it half way or full way down. The stock converter...

    MPG build 360

Most stock LA 318 cams were 390 lift with 1.5 rocker. Duration was about 192 @.050 if memory serves. Stock LA 360 2bbl cams were 410 lift, cant remember exactly but I think about 202 duration. Some 4bbls may have had different cams certain years like with the E58 360's.

    318 cam

This thread started out great. Way more informative than almost any other "318 cam" thread on the first 2 pages. Unfortunately it has now degenerated into the same old thing of bashing, and "max performance" talk. I just wish someone, anyone with more smarts than me could be bothered to take a...
