    8 3/4 Gear pattern

In this case I would take shims from under the gear correct? I definitely won't be running these gears, you saw the pinion pic right? Don't know why someone would do that! I has been a while since I messed with a 8 3/4 but put a Eaton in my Ram 2500 about 6 years ago. Appreciate your advice.

    8 3/4 Gear pattern

I picked up a 489 case with Auburn cone posi for a good deal I thought. Took it apart to inspect because the yoke was off, it has a crush sleeve eliminator in it and 2.91 gears. The pinion has been ground on but wasn't planning on using anyway. The pinion turned with basically no preload when I...

    Milodon op gasket

Ok,I understand that being on there when I got it doesn't make it right but it looks to fit well and it is a rear sump like the other van I looked at.It is a 360LA and the one piece gasket lines up with all the bolt holes. It is on and back in the van so I hope it is all good because that was a...

    Rocker arm set up?

I ask this question because they where also at a sideways angle, please see my comment and above thanks for your help,Todd

    Rocker arm set up?

So standing looking at the engine on the side, drivers front of engine to back LR LR LR LR and passenger front to back RL RL RL RL. Or if your standing on either side of engine L will always be on you left.I know this seems like a stupid question but I think they where on wrong on the passenger side!

    Rocker arm set up?

Ok so I finally got my heads back and have a few questions. The rocker shafts have a notch in them, does that go to front or rear? What order from front of engine to rear on each side do the rockers go? I kept them in order when I cleaned them but the pushrods looked to be in weird angles so need...

ARP main bolts oil pump clearance

Well I got the low profile bolts that ARP sent me I still had to take about .040 off the oil pump body.I don't trust myself enough to machine main cap!

ARP main bolts oil pump clearance

I called ARP today and they said it was an uncommon problem,I told them from what I read on here that it was more common than they think.I milled too much off the body and got into the relief spring cavity thus ruining a new oil pump! My bad! Arp did say they had a special low profile bolt and...

ARP main bolts oil pump clearance

Yeah,I have a mill so I milled enough off for the bolt to clear but still can't run the washer and not sure if I can take enough off the pump body to clear with the washer. The threads in the block are plenty deep so I think and hope it'll be ok not to use the washer after all the stock bolts...

ARP main bolts oil pump clearance

I put Arp main bolts in my 360 and the oil pump does not clear the bolts on the rear cap,I removed the washer and retorqued it and it still does't clear.Have any of you ran into this?,it is a Melling HV pump.

    Starting to assemble but?

So the machinist made it right its all good now as far as the mains go.I checked the rods and all except 8 measured .001 to .0015 #8 measured .002 what is the limit?

    Torque specs ARP bolts

The instructions that came with them said 100# so I guess that's what it'll get.Checking the clearance on my rods and all of the are .001 or .0015 #8 is .002 what is the limit

    Torque specs ARP bolts

I bought a set of ARP main bolts for my 360 the instructions say follow vehicle manufactures specs torque in 3 even steps to 100 ft lbs but the factory spec on the mains is 85 ft lbs.So 85 or 100?

    Starting to assemble but?

Yeah, not real happy with the machine shop! First he told me a week and a half and took 4 weeks and he only turned down the rod journals to .010 the mains were already .010.Somebody had been in this motor before and put new .010 main bearings in it but left the stock ORIGINAL rod bearings in it!

    camshaft bolts

My 360 does not have the bolt with the hole in it for oiling the timing chain, can a guy just leave the bolt out and run with two? no one in my area has it and said no longer able to order!

    Starting to assemble but?

Can you just replace the main bolts if they've been done more than 5 times? What about rod bolts? Ive always heard if you replace bolts that the rods will need resized?

    Starting to assemble but?

So when I remeasure again in the morning I just want to make sure I'm doing it right.I place a piece of plastigage on the shaft journal all 5 at the same time, torque them @ 85ft lbs starting at the 3rd one and work my way out. Then I just remove the caps and measure, correct?

    Starting to assemble but?

Remeasured twice and came up with the same thing,I am reading the book right the specs are .0005 to .002 correct? This guy told me the work he was doing would be a week and a half then he had my stuff for 4 weeks and now I have to take it back and wait longer! Not happy! I will measure again...

I finally got my block, crank, rods, pistons, bearings and rings from the machine shop 3 weeks after he said it would be done!
