    2004R is junk compared to a 518.

    Easy (?) OD Auto Install

    I put a 2004r in my 69 Cuda. I made a thread about it.

Nice. I really like your car a lot. I’ve followed it for a while on here now.

Overdrive or don't worry about it? !

2004R. I threw the coals to a few of them when I was into the Buick Turbo cars. But you need someone who knows how to make them last and it will cost a bit. TV Cable is no reason to not use the tranny IMO. Just part of the Hotrod life lol.... A guy on the board local to me (supertruck) put one...

    Overdrive tranny in an A-body

 now i'm full circle on this thing. GV, 2004r, 500a/518a.... cripes, maybe i'll go with a stick :BangHead:

    Overdrive tranny in an A-body

In stock form, I'd have to agree. Once modified with aftermarket parts and assembled by an experienced builder, the 2004R can hold over 1000hp. Try that with a 518.

How do we blend race car and comfort?

My '68 has 4.30's, a high-quality 3800 stall lock-up converter, a 2004R Stage 2 overdrive trans from Extreme Automatics, properly adjusted slapper bars and 275/60-15 Nitto Drag Radials powered by a 408" Magnum with EFI and a 250'ish duration roller cam on a 108* LSA with nearly .600 lift. I've...

    700R4 GM in a Swinger?

The drums in a 2004R are stamped sheet metal. Look inside your direct drum; stamped sheet metal to hold the clutches. The overdrive clutches are the cutest lil things ya ever did see.

    1966 with gear vendor

...Almost everyone else has said it just takes a big hammer on the floor to make them fit. I didn't even have to cut my floor to install a 2004R, but it is much smaller that the GV unit especially in length. I did cut the cross-member and welded a 1/4 inch plate about 3 inches wide and 2 feet...

    318 complete combo suggestions...

Warmed over 5.2 Magnum backed by a GM 2004R and 3.55 gears. That way, you don't cut the car up putting a nice over drive in it and you keep the original drive train.

    Gear vendors OD

...of a good thing with that set-up's overdrive ratio. I wish Gear vendors would offer in a deeper overdrive, but they don't. I ended up using a built up 2004R, which has a .67 overdrive and a lock-up torque converter. Aside from that, it's also the best automatic transmission I've ever driven.

    Overdrive tranny in an A-body

Want I should google that for yas? I would just build my own. I made a special tool to take apart the overdrive pack so I'm well into them. Have you ever held a 2004R overdrive clutch pack in your hand? A toddler could throw it all the way across a room. He couldn't even pick up a 518 pack.

...way to go, but I'm not against the idea of using a GM trans or a Gear Vendor unit. I've heard about a lot of people having success with the 2004r, so it will be on my list of options. The GV unit doesn't have a very aggressive ratio and if I'm going OD, I wan't some serious OD. If you...

    2004R in 1964 A body

I have tried searching and can't seem to find any information. I am putting a 408 in my 64 Barracuda with a Reilly front and rear suspension kit. I would like to use a 200R4 from Extreme Automatics. US Car Tools sells the cross member kit for later A bodies but not early. Has anyone done this...

    Transmision options.

I run an Extreme Automatics Stage 2 2004R with a 3800 rpm lock-up converter from Precision of New Hampton. It's fully automatic and the converter can be locked up while in 4th gear with the flip of a switch. It bolts up to most Mopar engines using a Reid SFI rated bell housing. It is the best...

    3.6 in A-body

...used with some Hobbs switches and control is hydraulic, and they’re nice but still huge in comparison. So my early A would be a 9.5:1comp 360-2004r with exhaust manifolds and 2800-3000 converter with steep gears. That would be a fun car and you could drive it anywhere. If I got tired of it...

Modern Drivetrain Swap into '65 Valiant

...find and expensive. Do you mean for the /6? That would definitely be something to look into, as I've heard nothing but good things about the 2004r. The big problem is that I want to stay away from both v8s and adapters, which seems to limit options. The pentastar and T5 swap on the forum...

...Engine should be here by September 1st Update 2/5: Finally getting close, nothing goes easy on an early a body. Took a lot of work getting the 2004R mount in but it came out great. Need wiring harness for EFI Magnum

Thank you. The overdrive is the single best thing I did to my A-Body, followed by EFI and BBP 4 wheel discs. I found the 2004R was easier to install because of the bolt on bellhousing and you don't have to cut the floor pan to get proper driveline to rear end pinion relationship. It also takes...

    Overdrive tranny in an A-body

No thanks, I'll search Google again if I ever want to cut my floor, add 40 or 50 pounds to my car, throw away 20 or 30 horsepower in increased parasitic loss and build my own transmission with no warranty.

    Overdrive tranny in an A-body

...rated for 1000+ hp for sale anywhere. They seem to max out at just over 500hp because the overdrive unit on the back of the 518 is the weak link (part of the reason it's less efficient, heavier and takes more power to spin than a 2004R), but please post a link showing 1000+ hp rated 518's for...

I run an Extreme Automatic's Stage 2 2004R in my '68 with a custom 3800 stall, 3 carbon fiber lock-up clutch, Precision of New Hampton torque converter. It bolts right up to my 5.9 Magnum block and will also bolt up to a Gen 3 Hemi block using a Reid SFI rated bellhousing. It requires no...
