...So something/wire at the battery or near the belts that launched is broke.
This is just in case.
Other thing could be a coincidental timingchain jumped teeth on the over rev recovery decel. With a socket at the crank can you turn it back in forth and feel a decent free play feeling before...
I would degree the cam with a degree wheel, if at all possible, even if you install another timingchain set. Plenty of instructional videos on the web to help you along. I once installed a big name brand double roller chain in an LA smallblock I was building. If I hadn't degreed the cam, I...
I have a small pond on top of timingchain cover the substance is antifreeze. See photos. And please help. The pond is very small and when I wipe with paper towel the paint comes with it. Is this dangerous. Antifreeze leaking into timingchain?
...The valve covers were stuck and so was the front cover. Taking more time than I thought, but I think it always does. Just look at the timingchain setup on this 3.5. One large timingchain, and then two more behind each sets of gears that you see above to the right and left. Will be changing...
So, s10 2.2 develops a rattle at idle when hot. Its the common timingchain tensioner. My local supplier doesent stock the chain kit or gaskets. Rock otto is 1/2 the money so thats what my plan is next. And a new muffler.
Get a Rollmaster set. We had the same issue with a comp bottom sprocket on a different engine SB Chevy . The customer bought the timing set. We tried a rollmaster that was here for a different engine and it was snug enough we could not push it on by hand without some force. So it was not the...
I didn't want to highjack the op question on cam timing, but I do have a question about it. When installing a timingchain I always brought up #1 on the compression stroke, turned the cam gear to the 6 o'clock position and the crank gear to the 12 o'clock position, then I installed the...
If it is the timing set ( Likely on an original LA engine) you can istall one of the V-6 chain tensioners with the new timing set. I have done that on all of my LA rebuilds.
Sorry I missed your truck at the show it sure is a nice example. Good luck!
I will check that, but the distributor is new along with the timingchain, I know that doesn't mean a lot when things happen but just wanted to throw that out there.
Thanks, I should be able to get the timingchain cover off this weekend, hopefully there is a # on the end of the cam shaft? Adjustable pushrod is ordered.
I never have understood why people are so scared to drill a .040" hole through the thrust plate right in line with the main oil galley so the timingchain gets pressurized oil. It's just so easy to do and costs nothing.
How does it idle? Popping out exhaust is the spark firng or explosion happebning when exhaust valve is open timingchain is set right? 15 BTDC sounds advanced by about 5 degrees and I think by static you mean initial timing as in timing at idle with no advance? static timing is the timingchain...
In the middle of a timingchain replacement. 1971 318 LA block.
I purchased a new timing cover for my Duster from Mancini racing because the OEM cover has bad corrosion at the water jackets and about to penetrate cover in many areas to the internals of the timingchain.
With the new cover...
1973 Dodge B200 van
360, 727, 8 3/4
Driven regularly, front suspension work, tires and front brakes done within the last year, timingchain, waterpump, front dampner replaced as well. Located outside of Sacramento, in Orangevale CA. $5800 obo
I suspect it’s the timingchain/timing gear, I replaced many over the years.
Pontiac used a nylon timing gear in those years and when they wear out and the chain stretches causing a noise that sounds like a gear drive. They eventually wear enough to cause the chain to jump and potentially...
We can sure get at opposite ends of the spectrum here! I have a Rollmaster timingchain set up on my 418 stroker with that stupid hole in the bolt, drip plate, and slinger, been there for 3 years or so now. Just had the pan and timing cover off for something else and the chain is probably...
...@PRH I checked under both valve covers and things look fine. No obvious bent pushrods or anything looking out of place.
@tonysrt the timingchain was replaced during the rebuild.
@mygasser can you describe the test to check for stretch in the timingchain more? What is the rotor arm you...
The nieces' Ford Edge crapped a water pump, and since Ford is pants-on-head retarded, the water pump is behind the timingchain(s). From Ford, this is like $800 in parts if I'm going to replace chains and guides while I'm there.
Enter Rock Auto. I find a timingchain set from SA Gear. Is it...
I see a lot of people fretting over timingchain slack on cam in block engines (OHC is entirely different.)
I personally think this mindset is a byproduct of the plastic top sprockets of the 70's that were supposed to quiet engine noise.
Those things were gone in 70K miles. But this is not the...
Timingchain is in an engine that I know i didn't drive much. I bought the car this was in around 2013 and it came out of the car around 2014 after being driven by me for a few months. This engine has been in my shed for over a decade and I had no idea the timingchain has like no slack...
I am working on a 68 340 with a bolt on sheet metal timing mark. With this kind of set up, does it matter which timingchain cover I get to replace my about to fail cover?
