Can't use the aftermarket flexplate. Crank sensor reads off the flexplate. Magnum 518's have a notch cut in the bellhousing for the sensor to go through.

Swirl port 302 castings might even help the numbers.

Try breathing through a straw, then add some bends to it. Smaller diameter and tube turns are a restriction.

Are you sure they are fully seated in the cup of the lifter, did you pump up the lifters?
