Stop in for a cup of coffee

Morning guys, back to work after a long weekend. Got the cherry picker got the 318 out of the duster. Tore it apart and found a something I wasn’t expecting. It sounded like it had a good cam in it when I had it running, so I wanted to take a look. As far as I can tell it says ( Wilson...

    .480/230 cam in an 8.5 CR 360?

No IMO that's backwards. But it depends. Start with: what do you want this car to do? and what octane gas are you willing to pay for? Ok well since I have been paged and missed it, and since you're willing to set a spell; here goes, Firstly I like that cam. If you want all the power that cam...

So...in 2023 do people still build hyd flat tappet engines * no rollers

Hi guys Wanting to build a stock spare 318 with a lightly better cam ( 360 2bbl cam ) for my 68 fury , im not in any hurry but i was wondering what was the best option nowadays since the hydraulic flat tappet lifters were or are problematic these days , everyone is switching to roller lifters...

Mopar Muscle induction Extravaganza Dyno testing SBM intakes, comparison....

First you have to realize the 6 pack was the older way of getting more cfm into the engine. Before 4bbl carbs were around. When they did come around, they were small in size. That’s why you see a Poly 318 with twin 4bbl carbs. When the 6 pack came out for Chrysler, Holley did have bigger carbs...

    360 vs 383

383 Magnum was rated at 5200 rpm. If you couldn't get your 383 past 4000, there was something seriously wrong with it. If you couldn't get a 383 four speed to roast tires better than a 318 2bbl, there was something SERIOUSLY wrong with it. (I would guess trash valve springs, or a flat camshaft).

    HFT vs SFT Cam Identification

You do not need to go as high as 050 tappet lift to determine if it is SFT or HFT, will not tell you anything. You measure from zero lift to about 0.020 lift. It can be really difficult to get a definite answer because the line between sol & hyd has become blurred over the years, with some...

    904: should I switch to 727?

Not all that useful experience to mention, you said yourself "assembly line stock". I agree in that form they're weak and burn up easily. Fried my original stock one behind a 318 that probably didn't even make 250 HP. If they were truly junk transmissions though I don't think Chrysler would...

Best Top 10 Bolt Ons For a 318

Gotta love those "Thumper" type cams. They call them poser cams because they idle like a top fueler but smooth out at 2000 rpm like grandma's 318. Just the perfect thing for cruising around the car show. Here's one now. A 318 with a Whiplash. Love the sound for sure. Great looking car as well.

Can someone help with this cam ID?

Thanks for the input! Greatly appreciated. The main reason I mentioned the vacuum is because I was already looking at other cams since I may be over-cammed for my intended build. If that purple cam I already have will be fine, I'll just run it with the 9" of vacuum. Like you said, you never use...

Engines with lack bottom end power?

My question has nothing to do my cars gearing stall etc.. I was looking over 318 builds for another thread, the guy was really worried about bottom end torque, conventional wisdom on here bigger cams heads etc.. gonna kill low end torque especially with a 318 and make a soft gutless dog of a...

    Cam for a 318

For the 318, would the lunati 701 be a good choice for what I'm wanting to do or the 700? I used a compression ratio calculator put in all the required information and it said that I would have a 9.40:1 CR. Is that a good compression ratio for either 1 of those cams? I don't want to have to back...

    318 LA roller block questions

How far in the hole 318 pistons

Why is it only got a 1000 rpm powerband ? Any time I've seen a mild cam swap over low performance stock cam the gains have basically been everywhere they measure 2000/3000 to 5000+ rpms, not just the top 1000 rpm. Why? Your saying a 48* vs 51* is gonna murder the bottom end ? What about if...

Budget 360 build in heavy car- Which cam?

Im leaning towards the first one as well, and in reality this is to be a cruiser, so I will most likely end up with the gears in the 3.0x or 3.23 range. Using stock rockers means no adjustability....does that mean id use the stock pushrods too? Again, this kinda thing is all new to me. As for...

    318 Cam Help

My engine builder has suggested the Comp Cams XE-250 or the XE-252. Since I'm cam "dumb" I would appreciate some guidance. Some details about the car/engine to the best of my knowledge: The machine shop performed an .030" over bore on the cylinders, polished the crank and added(?)...

    Cams for 318's

I had some questions about cams and this thread seemed like a good place to post instead of making a new one. I'm new to mopars and old cars in general. Hypothetical build questions…

I've done this swap a time or two. I have used the stock 340 short with 318 heads, and I have used both a stock 318 cam, or a stock 360 2bbl cam; installed straight up. I used a Factory cast-iron dual-plane Small-port, spreadbore intake with a Thermoquad. This makes your 340 basically, a...

All good points, but in his case there is no shop, there is no car, and probably there is no engine. No pistons will be bought, only complaining about a lack of options- same as when he is discussing buying a car.

My son has a Performance Engine Machine shop. He gets pistons for anything he is working on from his suppliers. No matter what engine you are working on you will need to have all the measurements to order the pistons. Not just send me 318 pistons. You will also need to have the block prepped...

    Edelbrock 2.055 (30 degree back-cut) testing

Gonna give it a shot and see how wrong i am :) More overlap allows a better cyl fill which means more cyl pressure allowing more power, up to a point in which reversion would cause more issues and loss of power. Also depending on the combo/port design less overlap would make more power since...

Which head/combustion chamber is better for performance? Speed master aluminum LA or aftermarket magnum iron head?

My impression of an AJ response!: Not sure where you want to compromise regarding fuel efficiency, performance, and budget -the first two categories move in the opposite direction. Much of this is obvious but for review: More gears in your transmission, with a steep first gear so you can run...
