    Headers question

I run that same Hedman Hustler header, but in the 1 3/4 primary (I didn't know about the bigger version at the time). I like them. My old 7qt low profile milodon pan had to be massaged with a hammer to make them fit. A few years back I switched to a Canton pan that clears the headers (but it...

Racing the stripe if you have the lead

Haha, yeah, oddly enough if doesn't bother me when some people call me a sand bagger....it just makes me smile. There are times though that holding a few numbers and driving the stripe can win you a race that you would have normally lost if you had dialed what the car would run flat out. There...

Racing the stripe if you have the lead

I love driving the stripe and playing mind games (sorry to those in the other lane). My advice starts with the must haves....must have a consistent car, and you must be pretty good on the tree. With that said, I spent a lot of time collecting data on my car like: 1. If I rip it once, how much...

Not sure why you can't see the pic, but its a Haul-About trailer. Got it from Trailers Midwest up in Elkhart Indiana....Just a basic enclosed trailer.

    Ad density on FABO

Sorry for the late reply, but yes, I see ads between every 2 posts (like what others said) + the top, right side, and bottom....over 30 on this page. I tried clearing cookies like others said, and it helped for a few seconds after reloading the page, but then the ads came flowing back in like...

    Ad density on FABO

Ah, gotcha. Just a suggestion (take it or leave it), if I were someone just passing through, maybe just looking, I would be VERY turned off by the sheer amount of ads thrown in my face. When I see websites like this I back out and never come back.....just saying, this might drive folks...

    Ad density on FABO

I have not been on here in a while (life got busy)...and this Might be a silly question, but what is up with all the ads? I know they are a source of revenue, but seriously, I'm having a hard time scrolling through just to read a few posts. The ad density is incredible. I have not see a...

    Canton oil pan ?

I have a Canton pan on my 67 Barracuda....not a fan coming from a Milodon. I had to cut a rather large notch out of my K-frame to make it fit (passenger side front corner), and it hangs lower than my old Milodon pan. 1 positive note, it did clear my headers just fine without shaping.

    Enclosed Trailer Questions

Picked up my new Trailer Saturday :-). 8.5 x 24' with 5200# axels, metallic gray and screw less....now all I have to do is rebuild my engine before April to make the first race of the season, lol. I better get to work!

    Enclosed Trailer Questions

Lots of good info, thanks guys! For clarification, I have an old 3/4 ton duramax that I tow with. One more question, has anyone had any issue with excess heat inside of Black vs White trailers? I love the look of black (or dark blue) trailers, just not sure if it would be substantially hotter...

    Enclosed Trailer Questions

I have not been on here in a while...life got busy with kid stuff and I didn't race at all last year...Anyway, I'm planning on upgrading from my 18' open trailer to an enclosed trailer before racing season starts. I will be hauling my 67 Barracuda and some tools (that's about it)....Just asking...

Index Racing (Engine Build and Tips/Tricks)

I just noticed that you probably could not see what I wrote in the replied quote above (post#11). The 302 heads are not a good choice for this application (they don't flow well at all). I would go with an aftermarket head (lightly ported Edelbrocks or Trick Flows would work).

Index Racing (Engine Build and Tips/Tricks)

This engine will not get you there @ 3400 lbs. I run a 10.5 index, and like others have said you need to be able to go under the index even in hot humid weather (for example, my car will go 10.3 in 95 degree humid air). The other thing you need to look at is what kind of tree they will be...

Am I an idiot for wanting to boost a high compression 318?

Having had a warmed up 318 in my Barracuda when I lived in Colorado (over 20 years ago)....I can tell you that you are probably no where close to 320hp right now. If you think I'm wrong, take it to Bandimere Speedway and see what it runs.....if it runs 14's or better then I'm wrong. My guess...

So….more header talk….this had me scratching my head

I use that same cam in my car...love it....best so far for me was 10.1 @ 131mph with 28" drag radials @ about 3200 lbs.

    Match this 500hp/500lb-ft Combo?

I would not worry too much about the exhaust flow. My ported Edelbrocks (by Ryan Johnson back in the day) look kinda week on the exhaust side (197 @ 0.600), but they flow 293 @ 0.600 on the intake. I remember thinking that my flow numbers didn't look as good as some others, had me a little...

    Nitrous and head cfm

Long story, short version...Long time ago I ran a 318 in Colorado with ported J heads and a 150 shot, it ran 13.9 at Bandimere (~9500' DA). Same engine about a week later with ported 302 heads the car ran a best of 14.5 on a 150 shot (also ~ 9500' DA). So yes, head flow does matter.

Place your bets, what will it run

Yeah, your 1/8 mile speed says you should be in the 6.6-6.5 range. Get that thing to launch and you will be in the 10.4's as is.
  23. flyfish

Place your bets, what will it run

Considering that the engine NA looks like it would be good for mid-low 10's (sea level), I would bet with a decent launch you will be in the high 9's. Boost is boost...it makes the high vs low altitude thing less of a factor compared to NA.

New hammer what will it run?

I use an AEM wideband (got it through Summit for ~ $150). As far as e85 tune, my car likes 0.77-0.80 Lambda at WOT.

    Oil pump/stud interferance

A couple of engines ago I took the time to cut the stud down, used a 12 point nut (also cut down) and clearance the pump with a grinder....it worked, but there was not a lot of the nut left to torque properly (was doable, but a pain). The last engine that I built for my car I just picked up a...

    Cam / Compression Ratio

Every engine I built for my car I planned thoroughly with the end result as my guide....for example, my current engine I wanted to be able to run at least 10.4 in the 1/4 mile in the heat of summer so I could comfortably run a 10.5 index class at the local track. This goal dictated what parts I...

Holley Strip Dominator vs. Edelbrock Victor 340

I think you might be in the high 10's as it sits, since you have a 904 in it. I also use a 28" DR and a 4.10 gear, but with a 727. Take it to the track and find out, should be close. Also, 4000-6200 RPM is a fat window....my converter flashes to ~5200 and I shift between 6500-6800 depending...

Holley Strip Dominator vs. Edelbrock Victor 340

For one more data point for the OP to consider...my 408 has a 264/268 solid flat tappet cam with heads that also flow 293, and I use a home ported Victor intake. Although I have never dynoed my engine, my ET/speed/weight say that my car is somewhere in the 580-600 hp range (depending on your...

Looking to get front end weight down.

If you do any kind of street driving I would leave them in. One of my friends cut his out of his race car (race only) and now wishes he didn't, due to all the crap that flies up under the hood...everything gets dirty. He said it was not worth the trouble or the weight savings since he had to...
