Post Picture From a Factory Service Manual

Alright, I need some help. I am missing "something" about the clutch adjusting rod on Vixen. The adjuster nut lacks only about 1/2" from being all the way at the end of its travel and that's not right. I want it right. However, I have misplaced my 64 Valiant service manual. Can someone please...

    Fork too far back?

Lots of detail but I’ll try to make this the short short version. I have a 66 Dart that was a slant/auto that was converted to a slant/overdrive by a prior owner. The car is drivable but the clutch isn’t “right”. I was told it has a 10” (for the 9.5 flywheel) B&B set from Brewers as well as a...

    throwout bearing to fingers gap?

Diaphragm clutch? If so, that's really close to what you need. If Borg & Beck, not. Either way I'd adjust it until you get the recommended clearance and see if your throwout bearing is still not touching the release fingers (B&B) or spring (diaphragm) when your foot is off the pedal. If it...

    New clutch setup won't disengage

1/2 an inch from zero freeplay, between the clutch fork and the pressure plate fingers, at the throw out bearing. Per McLeod tech line.

    Wild in the streets!

Need to move some big stuff around in the warehouse this weekend. A mad thrash today got the Picnicuda together enough to get it out for a test drive made me powerful thirsty. Lapped the block a couple times and stopped in at the corner store. The only surprises were a leaking/over full ps...

    throwout bearing to fingers gap?

FSM says 5/32s free play measured at end of fork results in 1" pedal travel. But that doesnt answer the question of gap between TO bearing and fingers. I have the FSM and I refer to it always before I ask here. My question was answered above by 65 Cuda. Basically close enough as to where it...

    throwout bearing to fingers gap?

What I was gettin at is, since the FSM doesn't cover "THAT" and it does cover free travel, the clutch disc falls into place when everything else is adjusted properly.

    Clutch fork length

That may be my issue on my new to me Valiant, some one was putting this car together before I got it. The clutch disengage point was almost all the way to the floor, had about 2" free play at the top. The clutch rod was adjusted all the way to the end. Clutch feels fine, no slipping. Is the...

    New clutch setup won't disengage

I appreciate the help, but that is still not what I wanted to know ;) I don't know how else to say it - how far does the clutch rod have to move the fork? However, I got the answer a long time ago by asking Centerforce directly. Their reply: The disc will be released with an 0.030” air gap...

    A833 Can't Downshift / Poor Performance

Could be a lot of things. It was definitely not "rebuilt" correctly. You should be able to downshift anytime anywhere as well as full on power shifts. If you are over travel on synchro assemblies, it needs to come apart and figure out what is wrong.

Clutch Fork Range of Motion A903

Well there is another issue I guess. I read my service manual and I also saw the setting for ½" of free play; I currently have absolutely zero free play at the clutch pedal. The clutch pedal at rest seems low and if I adjust the clutch rod for ½" free play the pedal is even lower when it engages...

    Throw out bearing question

This is a new set up to me correct part number bell housing for a 70 abody clutch fork and pivot are correct 12 1/2 long (two hump looking pivot) not sure how else to describe it. 12:05 Garage- ’70 Duster build

Finished fabbing up my new clutch linkage rods. You can see the melted rubber on the top fork rod. This is claimed to be "OEM" design by many big restoration suppliers. It didn't last long and it isn't even that close to the header. With some help from guys on this page, I learned of the steel...

    New clutch setup won't disengage

It makes a difference which pressure plate you are using, as they all have different lever ratios. In fact, my cover uses a custom made lever that Cale Aronson uses with the B&B/Long cover. Also, the ratio of the bell crank can be changed which will make a difference.

Get the correct boot. Not like they ain't available. I never have liked the boot design.....it's chinsy at best, but "somehow" it worked. lol I did mine last year and so far, it's held up. Just lookin at it, it looks like junk. Hard to believe those joints held up to the abuse of the Max Wedges...

64 dart with 4 speed with o/d clutch linkage question

Your pedal is/was hard for several reasons; Principally; your fork looks to be too short, but secondary is that you are likely running a 6-cyl pedal set-up with the 6-cylinder pedal ratio(*1). Furthermore; Everyone says that with the CF PP you have to remove the overcenter spring. The reason for...

    12:05 Garage- ’70 Duster build

My understanding was that the steel piece was used on trucks and was a great upgrade for a car. If so, that would make them both OEM, I guess. Been using one on my Duster for as long as I can remember.

    Clutch issue

None of the parts look worn. This is the clutch kit I bought from Rockauto More Information for PERFECTION CLUTCH MU16471 The throw out bearing had the plastic sleeve and it wouldn't stay on the fork when I push on the pedal. It was sloppy on the tranny snout . I swapped it with a used one I...

normal to need clutch adj after a few months on new one?

Probably the easiest way your to check your TO bearing to clutch finger gap is to do it the way the factory service manual says to. Just pull rearward on the end of the clutch fork then release it. This amount of "free play" or travel should be 5/32" when measured at the end of the clutch fork...

Slant Six Clutch Rod Return Spring?

Does anyone have a part number for or a place to buy this return spring? It's the one that goes between the tab on the bellhousing and the clutch fork itself...It seems like the ones I can find online are for small-blocks, and I'm not sure if they're the same. I just cut a generic spring, but...

    Clutch issue

FWIW, The OC spring works in BOTH directions on my Barracuda. When everything with respect to pedal/clutch linkage is tight and adjusted correctly the B&B style 3 fingers push the the fork and linkage back to just past center on the OC spring. The spring then lifts the pedal to the stop and...

    Diaphragm clutch and free play

Yeah that looks home made. The factory ones that have seen are stampings. I'm not knocking homemade, I mean that's what HotRodding is. Furthemore swapping out that bracket to a shorter one will move the fork rearwards and you might run out of window back there, when the clutch pedal is pushed...

    Clutch problems

I did leave out some details I suppose If the trans is in neutral things turn but very tight, and if I put it in gear I can’t turn the wheels at all. The trans shifts ok it goes into reverse and the forward gears using the shifter I have not been able to see what’s happening underneath while...

    Clutch problems

    A) If the driveshaft is not turning; when the engine is running, AND the trans is in gear, THEN: the crank and the driveshaft are NOT connected. It's just that simple. 1) The easiest answer is that there is a shifter to slider issue. Saying it shifts and it actually shifting may not be the...

    A833 assembly tricks

I actually remembered your technique before I started but the cluster pin didn't clear and since I had everything painted I went ahead and did it the "book" (= Passon A833 book) way. good tips! on note 4: I used Vaseline and it is actually quite sticky! I did use a mock pin (which came out...

    A833 assembly tricks

It shouldn't take more than a few seconds to drop that tail in there. I think you are doin' it the hard way. Here's how I do it; I leave the loaded cluster in the bottom, with no pin in it. Leave the front retainer off and push the input gear down as far as it goes, into the hole in my bench...

833 Transmission won't disengage at stop after 100 miles.

The flattest side of the disc should be marked "flywheel side". In your pic, above, it sorta looks backwards. Here are some guidelines; Your Z-bar should run parallel to the road, and at 90* to the centerline of the car in plan-view. The outboard end should be secured with the big wire...

sloppy Z bar linkage.....probably pilot error

the slop is NOT the problem! and you can't do anything about it anyway, cuz the only way to get those ends over the pins is if the sloppy holes are there. That slop is on the backside of the hole where it doesn't matter if it's there. The clutch pedal always sits lower than the brake pedal, mind...

833 Transmission won't disengage at stop after 100 miles.

(I made comments inside the quote.)You've got a gift in being able to articulate this information, AJ. Thank you so much for taking the time to detail so many variables. I'm humbled. On a different note; If you ever have the opportunity to make a video of your back cutting of synchro teeth, you...
