1968 Dart sudden rear end noise.

It happened on my 8 3/4 open rear years ago...the way you describe the noise sounds similar but my noise was very loud resonated through the driveshaft to the 4 speed shifter, I thought it was in the trans at first but I turned my head and the angle of my ear indicated it was coming from behind...

    Cheap 318 performance mods.

Personally and in my experience I cant see seeking out 318 parts (302 heads) the natural progression that I went through as a young man is play around with the 318, cam, headers carb exhaust, ran good but want better ... seek out and find a 340-360 ...that is the natural way of things not...

Is it ok to copy a W5 head and make it better or are we just mad at Speedmaster

I agree deals to be had if you know what you are looking for but in my experience I've had to cough up the funds if its something I specifically want sometimes it can't be avoided. Always looking for deals should be the norm though I think... also knowing the value of things etc. I wouldn't say...

    Cheap 318 performance mods.

I think "cheap" has to be defined here no? If we are talking effective use of funds put a 360 in it you'd need the heads anyway...

Is it ok to copy a W5 head and make it better or are we just mad at Speedmaster

Most guys "on the cheap" aren't really going that fast are they? Low budget guys always hit a wall at some point. I've been in the arguments with 318 guys it sometimes ends up at "well the 318 is better on gas..." at that point the conversation is over because we are no longer talking...

I sold my last 318 last year for $300 it was overhauled and ran good solid compression 125 psi across all cylinders. I sold it to a family member and just wanted the price of the internals at the time I purchased them years before...point is a runnimg 318 should be had for sub $500 IMO

It is a clique on here and there are other places to get parts...I can see how people would leave. There is alot of one sided nonsense arguments on her about stupid stuff. Once all the good people leave the clique will argue internally and force each other out that's how narrow mindedness and a...

Straight swap is easier than a build if you are in a hurry. Also if you want to build the original engine do it while you are driving the car with the swapped engine in it so you aren't in a hurry if its your first build...that way you enjoy the car while figuring out what you want to do with...

How far in the hole 318 pistons

I haven't seen a decent 340-360 thread on here that wasn't hijacked by 318 guys in a long time. But the thing is the 340-360 side of the argument is truly valid.

How far in the hole 318 pistons

A 318 will swap in yes and I've ran one in my Dart long ago, but I've since unloaded all my teens. I used to get them cheap or free so hanging on to them was sort of foolish. Like collecting scrap. I deleted my post I figured I didnt want to upset the folks here and get banned its a mob...
