Engine paint.... Lets see them purdy SB's

Bear in mind, this is my very first solo build, and it's better than what it used to look like :P on the stand, obviously... And where it currently lives.

    automatic steering.

got tags for my car, started driving it and realized it steers by itself, but only to the right. it has been aligned. also, before anyone asks, I dont have the pressurized and return lines mixed up. that's really hard to do.

    trunk rattle

ahh, okay I think I know what I'll do now. I'll probably drill holes just big enough to get the straw in and spray a little bit inside. thanks

    trunk rattle

my question is, does anyone else's trunk lid rattle? the two skins on my lid produce a terrible rattling from almost anything. exhaust, closing the doors, the stereo, all make it clatter together.

    68 4-door "Sleeper"

this is one SWEEET build, man! can't wait to see it finished, a four door sleeper is my favorite compared to some of the fates many of them meet ( Getting painted flat black, being jumped, having the roof cut off, or meeting a crusher without being stripped, etc.) just goes to show, too, that...

    a quick update

hey guys, haven't posted in a while, thought I'd share my progress. got my hedman headers on, got the summit exhaust on, all I have to do is pass my license test on the 8th, get it aligned, then transfer the title and get some tags. lol, also hoping to pick up an 87 Plymouth Horizon!!! hope...

    speaker locations

thought for a brief moment about cutting up my door panels to put some 6" circulars in, and decided I wouldn't until all other options were considered. so where do you have your speakers mounted, other than in the rear deck?

    f-body split bench

there's an aspen in a local wrecking yard, it's got a split bench,(basically two buckets mounted on a rack style mount, with an armrest in the middle) and it's the same color as my duster's interior and in good shape. they have a good bit of bolstering on the sides too. yard owner wants $35 for...

    Update: '72 Gold Duster

as of sunday, my car runs. dropped the 360 in after hanging the transmission, and bolting up the mounts. some bad news though. after priming oil and getting fuel to the carb, i bypassed the starter relay(turns out that's bad, I tried the key) and it fired right up. I almost didn't notice, but...

    strange discovery.

no, actually the factory rear ends are too narrow because the the duster was valiant based. under a valiant, they are the perfect width, but since the duster didn't get it's own width, it's too narrow. the page allpar has for the duster mentions this. and I want to correct myself for saying it's...

    strange discovery.

i was just milling around and decided to measure all the 8 3/4" housings we have, and found out that the perches for a truck are the same width as an A-body. from pin to pin on the perches, they're roughly 43 inches. now from flange to flange, it's two inches (1.85"), which makes up for the rear...

    Update: '72 Gold Duster

another update! My duster is at my house and last weekend I changed the rear end out, and this weekend I'm doing the front end for the disc brakes. after that, I'm ordering the mounts from schumacher. and another thing; I'm doubting the validity of my car's identity. because the interior is...

    833 rebuild kit?

I'm also missing the 1st-2nd and 3rd-4th shift forks.

    833 rebuild kit?

picked up an A-body A833 for $250 and it needs new synchros and bearings, also the plastic speedo gear is ground to a fine grit in the tailshaft because the rear retainer slipped and was ovalized, allowed shaft play and also cracked the rear bearing. also because of the retainer jumping off...

    why a Ford 9"?

I did a search, I was just trying to figure out why people choose this over something of the same brand of car it's going into. I've done the research, and the bearing sizes, spline count and so on go to the 8.75". I just haven't had to choose one or the other, but I'd most likely choose the...

Things I do at car shows

lol, and the ever classic small block that they swear is a "440, and a hemi", or some bs killstory, or even the $75,000 car they took down with the sadly cobbled together/obviously schucks built mopar they're leaning up against and/or trying to sell for WAAAAAY more than it could possibly be worth

    weight balance?

hoping to hear from some autocross people in here. what motor, tranny and rear end combos are you running, what kind of balance do you have and what are some things you've done to get closer to 50% up front and 50% out back? G-machine is probably the direction I want to go with my duster...

    why a Ford 9"?

okay, good to hear everyone's opinion on this. I understand choosing it for the price, availability, etc. in a budget build. but I've seen people build mopar stuff with money not being an issue and they choose the 9" almost every time. it almost seems like they think "the ring gear is bigger so...

    why a Ford 9"?

here are some of the sites I got the info from. for the ford: http://www.kevinstang.com/Ninecase.htm http://www.planethoustonamx.com/main/chrysler_8_34_rearends.htm

    why a Ford 9"?

yeah. I was just doing some research and it seems to me the numbers that count (bearing size, pinion size, etc.) favor the 8 3/4". made me wonder. one thing the nine has to its advantage is the cost and availability. Ford's main concern, it would seem, was production numbers.
  25. 72goldduster

    why a Ford 9"?

DEFINITELY NOT TRYING TO OFFEND ANYONE WHO CHOSE ONE, but what are your reasons for it? the 8 3/4 is much stronger, has bigger everything (except of course, the ring gear diameter, and in the 741 case the pinion diameter). again, not trying to get anyone hot headed, I'm just wondering what made...

Hey guys, good news. as of today, I now have the suspension parts I need for the 5 on 4.5" and disc brake conversion! lotta stuff that'll be helpful in this thread now, and even later down the road. today I am sad...

...because my parents have yet to let me work on my car. They say it's because I haven't earned it yet, even after working ALLL summer and the rest of the year when I was TWELVE to buy the damn thing, then working until about six months ago to scavenge the parts to get it roadworthy. why...
