Thats a pretty stout cam. Does it not have a lope at idle? What rpm does it idle at? The guy i bought my dart off had the 3.91s in it and said he had to shift into second in the middle of the intersection...This from a stop light or stop sign. So put the 3.55s back in. Mind you he was almost as...

I wish i was 26 again....hell i'd settle for 45 :salut: ......I have a stick so am not too familiar with the autos...Why the 1.6s?....your gear change is gonna be HUGE! I've got 3.55s now and they are sure a nice middle of the road. Will be putting the 3.91s in though. Man you go out on the...

Okay, there is a really good chance you have the high comp. pistons. Find out for sure before putting in a different cam. You gotta at least take the heads off this winter and find out.

You leave that puppy outside all winter? First things first ...check out the balancer(damper)..... :drunken: :D

    12 second 340

Well if it is i imagine you would have the high compression unit. Sometime in 72 they switched to the cast crank LC in the hole pistons...4 valve relief. The balancer should tell the tale. Hell even if it is a cast crank and in the hole pistons its not the end of the world. Pistons can be...

And the balancer is for a steel or forged crank?

    12 second 340

Have you had the heads to confirm its a low comp? Just because its a 72 doesnt automatically mean it the lc version. My block is supposidley a 72 but it dates to july 71 and pistons sit out of the hole....mind you aftermarket.

    360 stroker...piston questions.....

To put it a better way...if someone needs nitrous to beat me they are the loser :-({|=

    360 stroker...piston questions.....

Bottle babies are for ricers. There is no need for nitrous on the street. If you want it on a mopar get a furd. IMHO

    360 stroker...piston questions.....

Fastback, my fairly stock dart will horrify a fairly stock 5.0. Hemidave...i see what you mean now. However i'm looking to use open chamber heads. 308s if i can find a decent set. So the KB356s would fit without milling i assume. Of course this would depend on the head CCs, and how far the KB...

    360 stroker...piston questions.....

Okay so they are not flattops then.? You say you dont know what kind of heads your going to use. If you use a closed chamber you would have to go with Eddys i presume, seeing as the alternative would be 302s which would not be too cool on a 360. I would think 308s and a zero deck....but i guess...

    360 stroker...piston questions.....

So why do you have to mill them?

    360 stroker...piston questions.....

I didnt realize the KB 356s were that light, 483grams. The only thing i could find that light were Ross's ...pricey though. I still wouldnt use KBs with a shot though. I'm thinking about a 360 stroker also. Are you using KBs Fastback?

Anyone know what heads these are?

Are these open or closed chamber?

    Rocker Shaft Oil Holes

I'm still trying to figure out the notch thing...when i took mine apart the notch on the drivers side was at the back just like the passenger side. It was rebuilt in '88 and and been that way since then. No ill effects.

Long tube headers or stock manifolds?

Sparky...Is that Kamloops??? Nice 340S. I've got the hedman shorties on my 340 Dart but if i could afford it i would go with the TTIs, they dont run under the center link. As far as manis vs long tube headers...bull.

    Engine installation

Okay....maybe dementia is setting on me...i suspected it awhile ago... Your leaving headers and starter on when installing....on an A body???

    Engine installation

So you leave the starter in when installing and removing....????????

    Engine installation

Oh yeah....we blocked up the front wheels about 8 inches and jack stands at the rear for easier crossmember and driveshaft connection. When i'm on a creeper I need a bit O clearance (260lbs)

    Engine installation

We pulled my 340 and 833 out together and left the dist. on but took off the cap, this on a 69 Swinger. Hood off. No leveler. I dunno about putting it back in...its tight.

how tochange the rear main seal?

Another distinct possibility is your oil pan end gasket. Like you say it's only leaking slightly so maybe leave it alone. I believe there is a different main cap made specifickly(sp) for an A body to correct this problem.
  23. L

how tochange the rear main seal?

Take off the oil pan, probably have to drop the center link too. Undo the rear main cap bolts, and you will find the rear main seal. These things are notorious for leaking. If its not leaking much maybe leave it alone or if feeling adventurous change it. If you change it youself you should...

    Rod bearings

Was going to put new rod bearings in today but to my dismay the new ones dont have a notch or dowel hole on the ends. The old ones do. If I put the new ones in they will block off the oiling notch on the cap end. We checked the part# and it is correct....Clevites....Anyone?...thanks

    Main bearing tangs

On the cap side of the main bearings does it matter if the tangs are mated with the block bearings? I cant remember how they came off and my book doesnt say anything. I have installed them mated and the bearing # on the block side and the cap # are installed on the same side which mates up the...
