Coolant in cylinder 8 on 318

I notice that you have headers. I drilled too big/too deep when plugging the air injection holes during header preparation on a set of smog heads once. Filled the cylinders with coolant by way of the air injection holes. Not my finest hour.

    Bullitt wheel information

Yes they do have the pockets between lugs so that would be an option. I bet the ridge reamer would work great being that the wheels are aluminum and the needed material removal is minimal. That's a really good idea.

    Duster with torque thrust wheels

These pictures aren't the greatest but here are 17 x 8 2005 Mustang Bullitt wheels on my 73. I actually prefer real AR D's in a 15" as far as looks go but I'm too cheap to buy them custom with the offset I need so I went with the Mustang rims as an alternative. They were not just a simple...

Does a '69 air cleaner look wrong on a '70 Dart Swinger 340

This thread makes me happy my car has little value to anyone but me. Having a somewhat rare actual legit musclecar like some of you fellas almost seems like a curse. I'm running an early 70s dual snorkel off a 400 on my 318. Air cleaner is bigger than the engine but the price was right being...

    Hagerty insurance

I'll add, I don't drive my car daily and only on nice days. However, there were a couple of weeks this summer that I drove the car to work every day because it was nice every day. It sounds to me that would not be covered in my situation.

    Hagerty insurance

You guys got me thinking about this situation again as I currently have State Farm Classic and have wondered what would really happen if I were to have a claim. Unfortunately, I just copied and pasted the following from Hagerty's website. "** Occasional pleasure use does not mean use for daily...

Any CNC machinist here? Looking for Haas lathe advice.

I've posted on a machining forum but I thought I'd try here also. It seems that I can find more good info on FABO than anywhere else for nearly any topic. My employer is looking to purchase a larger cnc lathe and has found a 2019 Haas ST35 with the 2-speed gearbox. I am looking for intel, both...

    E-bay find

Here you go guys. Sorry, I didn't realize pics of shock plates would be that exciting.

    E-bay find

I have to gloat a little about what I was lucky enough to pick up on E-bay for 50 bucks. I've been looking for a pair of spring plates for the 8 1/4 rear installation on my Duster. The starting bid was 50 and no one else ever made a bid. I actually feel a little guilty, especially since it...

Drum brake swap from 7 1/4" to Jeep 8 1/4"

Great, exactly what I was hoping to hear. I couldn't believe that someone hadn't already done this before me. This is a really cheap way to get 3.55 gears and the extra axle width will be perfect for my 17" Mustang wheels.

Drum brake swap from 7 1/4" to Jeep 8 1/4"

Thanks, I knew that was one option from the searching I've done. I'm happy, at least for now, with the 10" drums since I've already rebuilt them and they work great.

Drum brake swap from 7 1/4" to Jeep 8 1/4"

Sorry, I re-read my original post and I wasn't very clear. I am looking to swap the complete drum brake setup over, not just the drums.

Drum brake swap from 7 1/4" to Jeep 8 1/4"

I've done many searches on this and I'm still not 100% sure. I have a 3.55 geared 8 1/4 rear out of, I believe, a 97 Jeep Cherokee. I'm intending to install it in my 73 Duster this winter. I am fairly certain that the 10" drums from my current BBP 7 1/4" axle should be a direct swap to the...

    Subaru?

Thanks again for all the info, guys. Just an update if any of you are wondering. At this point, purchasing it seems to be a no-brainer unless there's something really weird when we get to check it out in person. The current owner had the timing cover replaced, new brakes all around, new cat...

Thanks to all. It sounds like it's definitely worth taking a look at.

    Subaru?

This is the most common issue that I have found online and the 5w30 was the most common recommendation I saw. I'm currently waiting for the maintenance info from the current owner. He claims to have had the car totally gone through at a Subaru dealer when he bought it in 2019. It seems like...

I'm assuming this is a good thing. My Subaru knowledge is non-existent.

    Subaru?

Yeah, unfortunately the Illinois winter road salt will eat nearly anything and it seems to be getting worse.

    Subaru?

I'm looking for a safe reliable car for our 17 year old daughter. We have found a 2011 Subaru Forester with the 2.5 boxer 4 and 4 speed auto that appears to be well maintained, including receipts for mechanical work performed. I have not yet seen exactly what work was done. Does anyone have...

    headers vs manifolds on a 318 2bbl difference ????

I had a bone stock 318 2 barrel in a 70 Challenger. Went from not turning a tire with manifolds to a one-wheel peel as long as you kept your foot down with headers. That was enough evidence for me. That said, I still have crappy manifolds on my Duster because I'm cheap and got tired of...

So far, I am feeling better about my oops, other that that Challenger. LOL

Dumb Mopar moves - this should be fun

Curious what do-overs you all would like to be given. My #1 was when a bought a 70 Challenger "parts car" in the early nineties for $500 and sold it for $250 to a kid that was going to use it as a BOMBER CLASS STOCK CAR!. Still makes me sick to think about. All I took from it were the Rallye...

    Hypothetical 318 Builds

Almost every time someone asks me what I have in my Duster, I answer "just a 318." Normal response to that is "nothing wrong with that, one of the best engines ever made". FWIW, I think you running a Slant 6 is cool.

How quickly should oil pressure come up?

Wow, I've really sent you all down the rabbit hole. One of the things I love about this site. Thanks again for all the responses as I never had any idea the composition of motor oil was this complex. I'm assuming that seeing different pressure results across brands at the same oil weight is...

I should have known. Thanks for the info.

How quickly should oil pressure come up?

Thanks for all the responses. I'll try to answer any questions raised in order. I'm using a mechanical gage so no sensor to change. The more I think about it, it was acting the same last year with 10w30 as it is now with 10w40. The oil and filter were changed in March and it's been driven...

    Hypothetical 318 Builds

I've always wondered, once we get a Magnum and convert it to a carb., do the bores wear more like we are used to with the older engines? It seems that they probably would. Anyone have any first-hand experience?

How quickly should oil pressure come up?

I didn't think of that aspect of the oil weight. I ran 10w30 previously but tried the 10w40 for more idle oil pressure although it only gained me a couple of pounds. I also wondered about the filter drain back valve but I have had the "problem" with multiple filters. Maybe Wix filters aren't...

How quickly should oil pressure come up?

Another detail I forgot is that on a cold start, if I purposely don't set the choke until I've cranked about 3 seconds, the pressure will come up quickly with no lifter rattle.
