    Header Help Please

AJ/FormS has a point. Not a relevant point, but a point for sure. If you're using jet fuel in your engine, make sure to keep your steel beams well clear. ;) Assuming David Freiberger isn't plotting to race you for pinks in the next couple years, and created an elaborate plan to fool you into...

    Header Help Please

Well, allow it the most room to breathe possible. Look at it this way, it's that or your stock manifolds. I'd expect the headers to perform better even with a few good dents. Go watch that enginemasters video when you get a sec, if only for the entertainment value. As for coating them, it...

    Header Help Please

Well if you believe the episode of Enginemasters from last month, you can basically go to town on your headers with no power loss. I was gonna ask about your setup, but since you've already bought (and dented?) these headers, I'm not gonna tell you you could prolly find some that fit stock...

Putting a new cam in my 360

Finally tracked some down. Nobody in town seemed to have the stuff.

Putting a new cam in my 360

Clevite Bearing guard? Sounds like it won't be too bad to use as a break-in lubricant. Can't find Isky or Torco locally.

Putting a new cam in my 360

Impossible. The internet told me spending more money was the only solution. Already checked out Colt. They're closed for a while. I'll look into Shadbolt.

Putting a new cam in my 360

Fair enough. I don't think I have the time or wherewithal to go custom cam. (I live on an island in Canada... custom fab **** isn't easy to get, especially when you're paying 40% extra plus shipping) I'm also just not building an engine at that level. I dig what you're saying, and eventually...

Putting a new cam in my 360

It was definitely a concern for me that the lifters I got with the cam had clearly been on the shelf for a while. I lubricated them as carefully as I could, but I never popped them open to look for corrosion/etc. Now that I think I've figured out the source of the issue, I'm less worried about...

Putting a new cam in my 360

Thanks for that. RPM varied for sure, but the lack of high-viscosity assembly lube is what caused the issue I think.

Putting a new cam in my 360

Coated the cam, lifters, etc in the oil additive, made sure there was plenty of oil in the valley, etc. and then primed the system to get things pumping before firing, then running at 2k rpm for about 20 minutes. It sounds like I was lax on the break-in procedure.

Putting a new cam in my 360

DING DING DING! I think we found the problem. Did not use the proper assembly lube. I only used break-in additive. Well **** me sideways.

Putting a new cam in my 360

I did not use a separate product for assembly. The same break-in oil was used throughout the process. It was recommended to me that stock springs would be sufficient for that cam. Factory stamped valvetrain.

Putting a new cam in my 360

woah woah woah. Let's take a step back. I was saying all I see (given my experience level) is a worn cam. That's the only issue that I can detect. In order to detect any other problems, I'll need the expertise of you guys. Now that we've got that out of the way... I did check the oil. Metal...

Putting a new cam in my 360

I'm not great at reading internet sarcasm, but I'm gonna assume that's a 'no' on the insight or advice then. Oil pressure looks good. New gauge too. I agree that they look hot though. Going from memory those were the ones by the busted lifters. Couple of the pushrods were nicely scored up by...

Putting a new cam in my 360

Just looks like a worn cam, unless I'm not seeing something. Have any more insight into what it could be, or what to look for? (and it was a proper break-in oil. Most of them contain high levels of zinc, right?)

Putting a new cam in my 360

Hello all! The adventure with the 360 continues. I think it's time for a new cam. Motor: 360 block. J heads Flat top pistons Zero decked Bored .30 Performer RPM intake Eddy 600 (was running Holley 650 double pumper, but it was too much) Shitty headers 3:55's out back Approx 9.5:1 compression...

    Spark issue help

Oh yeah, I'm aware of the suspicious circumstances, but I can't think of anything else that would cause it. Break in was done properly, oil pressure was good, there was enough oil... I guess we'll just wait and see if it is actually fixed. (Seems great now!)

Finally got to the bottom of the issue. 3 busted lifters. I don't know whether the ones I put in had just been sitting too long, or were mis-machined or what, but they were totally pooched when I pulled them out. Got a new oil pump and gauge in case, and they were definitely getting oil...

Tried a variety of timings, didn't seem to run any better. (35+ degrees total) Haven't checked if my mechanical advance is stuck. I should investigate TDC more carefully now, it's been a lot of ******* around since the last time. and Mgunner, just cleaned the carb out very carefully...

    Spark issue help

Still haven't managed to do a leakdown test (compressor fitting issue) Discovered this after warming up my engine, of course. Once I pulled all the plugs, I noticed that all but one are now running rich. (see the pic) Any further advice? I'm gonna start the leakdown test on that cylinder...

    Spark issue help

Thanks for all the advice man. From what I read ( this article: http://www.gregsengine.com/using-a-vacuum-gauge.html ) a jump of 1-2 inches indicates an ignition problem. That's where I got that info. -I will test for the intake sucking issue (dipstick test) -I've got headers, so I'm...

    Spark issue help

Okay! Here we are again. Still stumped. Carb is sparkly clean and back on. Pretty happy with the setup though my power valve might be a bit low. Meh. With everything back together I started ******* with my timing more. Run it everywhere from 6 degreed retarded to 10+ degrees advanced. Runs...

    Spark issue help

Yeah, thats my opinion too. Nothing worse than hoping to find something broken and coming up empty-handed. :???: Gonna grab a new power valve tomorrow, and see if they have a new metering block. If it's not going to be too spendy I might just throw money at the problem. If that hasn't...

Power valve looked corroded, but everything was dry. Only weird thing was 2 gaskets under the power valve. Nothing black came out when I shot compressed air through. Now the carb is back together, so I guess I'll check it tomorrow. Fuel filter will be changed. Looked clean, but the fuel...
