    Let’s talk CB radios

500 watts vs 5 watts of power. AM radio uses the ionosphere to " skip" the signal to a much larger area. But the skip doesn't work all the time. At home, on my base station, I could talk 200 miles without the skip...the Moonraker 6 antenna was huge (15' long?) . With the skip running I could...

    MSD or Blue Streak wires?

The best I have ever used for racing were from Scott Wires. They custom build to your specs. For 90% of our cars a $30 set of wires is all you need...they are just another shiney object to waste our money on like roller rockers, cheap chrome crap and gear drives. Yes I'm a crabby old b@stard.

    Drive shaft yokes

That yoke came from a vehicle with a lot of potential suspension travel....maybe a pickup? Travel increases when the suspension is compressed.

    Let’s talk CB radios

My first CB was a 6 channel Johnson . Late 70's I had a Courier 23 channel with another 46 channels added on using a 500 watt kicker. I had 6' heavy duty antennas that I had to swap out because of low bridges coming into Milwaukee.. I used to talk to guys fishing in the Gulf of Mexico and a...

    Only pittsburgh people will understand.

I was in a tiny Pittsburgh bar one Sunday night after I backed my truck into a dock in downtown . Must have been 1972. Walked over to the joint and ordered a Miller...Ha!! No Miller. Only sold Iron City and other local beer. Still got drunk...

the USS New Jersey battle ship.

Great pix... My Dad served aboard the Wisconsin BB-64 at the end of WWII plus took his reserve training on her to Cuba and the Caribbean. He was a gunners mate firing those 16" guns... He said Everytime he boarded her he kissed the teak decks. My wife and I visited the Whisky in 2016. Here's...

    Ebay water pump explodes.

I will admit I got suckered into buying crap parts because of price. But I learned. I bought a manual flywheel from CAT about 20 years ago. No one I know could figure out what bolt pattern it was drilled for... I looked at Ford, GM, Jap cars, Studebaker, Hudson...nothing matched. So I bought a...

I feel like a disc jockey...

I bought a push type slave from Speedway Motors which is very close to the Toyota Corona units I used in the early 70's on my dirt cars. $54 as I recall. I will make my own pushrod. I will fab the bracket from a chunk of 1/8" cold rolled steel I have. Use some sort of brake hose mounted to...

I feel like a disc jockey...

Didn't expect that. Has 1980's plates. It's nice that all that little stuff is intact...wiring, glass, most if the chrome. All expensive and time consuming. If I was doing a total resto that stuff wouldn't matter so much but to a 75 year old on SS and working a PT job that means a lot. My...

That flipped a record to the B side... So it's been a long while since I have been here (I can hear the sighs of disappointment that I'm back!)... My favorite Mopars have always been '63 - '70 B bodies... mainly Plymouths. Just like their styling. This past September I missed a local Mopar...

Buying a used lift worth the savings?

I also bought a used Weaver back in '95. Built from 3/4 and 1" steel... 4" diameter hydraulic rams, leaf chain in place of wimpy cables. This thing will lift a crew cab dually without any problem and will out last my great grandkids...

2 post lift install -- documented

I built my shop in '94...installed a used 9k Weaver lift in '96. My shop floor is 4" six bag mix with fibermesh... no wire or rebar. I have never had a crack in my floor other than two hairline ones on the surface. I do have a good, well drained sandy base.

    360 block limits

Just to elaborate... The only FI used in oval track racing are mechanical systems used in open wheel cars. Carbs are used in every other class. The super late model dirt cars can make 900hp with a single 4 bbl.

    Age of "new" tires

Never had an issue with running older tires as long as they were in decent shape...except I had 9 blowouts flat towing a '39 Ford back from MN to WI with 50 year old Ford script tires... Oh and my 11 year old tires on my potato trailer liked to pop when 30,000 overloaded. Other than that, no.

    Acetylene question

My buddy used to have an antique acetylene generator. Used water and carbide to make the gas. He would fill these giant baloons with the gas, tie off the ballon with a 30 sec fuse then light it off...big explosion. The problem was his shop was one mile from the airport in the flightpath. The...
