'65 Dart Sedan with the factory ordered 273 Charger option! Not many of these engines were ordered in the plain-jane '270' family sedan.
Fender tag decode shows only a few meaningful options:
left outside mirror, variable wipers, rear stone shields, 273 4 bbl, torqueflite automatic...
Interesting - am out of town for another day, will get pic of actual VIN tag at the drivers door when I get back. The VIN I posted was from a pic I took of the title - just checked and I did copy it correctly. So there may be a story!
VIN 1352536655
After doing a little sleuthing (don't hold me to it), these are the 4-door HP 273 numbers:
4-door (basic) sedans (25)
4-door ('270') sedans (275)
4-door wagons (0)
... was not able to find any credible data on any manual/auto subsets
Right I get that - it's wishful thinking that (in 2020) one can conclude with certainty that any particular car is/was 1 of XXXX examples optioned exactly the same.
I had not considered that -- but alas, no hitch, power steering etc. Never been rodded in any way either so a super conservative initial owner -- and only one owner with me being the second. It's a quirk of a car to be sure. BTW it is very powerful and remarkably quiet even with the HP exhaust
Right, I'm super curious as to how many HP273 Darts were made in the 4-door configuration with a small list of options like mine:
* auto trans
* heater
* intermittent wipers
It escapes me how back then one would order what is a base 4-door with no power steering, power brakes, a.c...
Yessir - did do. Pretty easy to figure out what one has :)
What I'm after is something that is moderately more legit than my 'interpretation' that I can include with the upcoming sale. Also was hoping someone could weigh in on how many of these 4-door hipo 273 may have been made
Hey guys,
Who would I use to properly decode my odd '65 Dart? I'd like to get an 'authenticity' some- such-thing if possible, kinda like what GG used to do
TIA, Olive
So just to be clear, is there any way to know exactly how many 1965, 273/235 HP, Dart, 4-door automatic cars were produced? And if there is, are further breakdowns possible of colors, options, etc?
Pretty cool, 65dartcharger -- thank you. Is there a registry for these oddball V8 family sedans? Am working on getting it back on the road and will likely keep it as it was made - no mods or upgrades.
Thanks for that input toolmanmike. Where might one look for those breakdown numbers if they ever existed or are we simply left with having to make 'good' educated guesses?
Hey Guys, where does this car "fit in" among all of the Charger 273 powered cars? Was it rather common back in '65. I've not seen this iteration of the V8 before although there is a local gal that has the same year Dart sedan but her engine has red valve covers and a more plain air cleaner...
