Anyone have any idea what cam I might have?

Because the SB engine does not oil the top end through the lifters, a solid lifter should be solid, one piece, NO circlip.

    Thank You Sean

Are those lifters the same as used in the Poly engines?

'Runs like a champ'. Then switching from MVA to PVA would be a baaaaaaaaaaad idea.

    P/S belt squeal

Get a non-cogged belt. The cogged belts stretch more simple because there is less rubber taking the load. Cogged belts were invented to reduce flexing & heat build up so that the belts lasted longer. Downside is more slippage.

    My 422 smallblock build

The plug may not be new but not that old either. For oiled up plugs, check valve stem seals, worn valve guides, worn/broken rings or possible leakage past the intake gasket.

    360 runs strange, lifters??

If you had collapsing lifters, I would expect a noisy valvetrain that you would hear. Tap, tap, tap. Collapsing would be noisier than bleed down, tap/tap versus tick tick.

    POINTS/ELECTRONIC DIST LOOK ALIKES

The HEI module can be hidden under the dash. I mounted mine there to keep it cool. I also mounted a spare next to it in case it failed. Four terminals, takes 5 min to swap over....but never had to do it. Mount on a heat sink, & tie wrap to the wiring harness. No need to drill mounting holes...

Anyone have any idea what cam I might have?

Crower has a sol lifter cam with about that lift on the intake. If it has been running ok for 'years' with 022/024 lash, & not getting increasing valve train noise, it suggests the lash setting is ok.

Thinking about a dash light upgrade. Your thoughts?

I also got dash LEDs from Superbright. They are good, but do not dim. I believe there some that can be dimmed. SB is good because they have a big range to choose from.

    Oil pump intermediate shaft breaking

Wonder where the pump drives are made now? I can tell you this. I bought the upgraded Direct Connection pump drive in the 70s when DC started. It was made of Moly 4XXX steel. This steel is hard steel....but not hardened like the stock piece. The Moly can absorb some twisting & not break; the...

    17" Magnum 500's

72 Blu, [1] So Amtronic in post #62 was just imagining a rougher ride with bigger wheels???????????????? He didn't really feel the difference???? [2] An observant driver[ maybe not you ] will notice that if they have over inflated their tyres, the ride is harsher. This is particularly...

Question about lifter spring pressure limit

If you don't want to worry about lifter noise or lifter bleed down, use solid lifters. Set the lash to 0.006-8", hot.

    shim the rocker studs????

CW, On engines that use rocker studs, I have shimmed the studs MANY times. But not for the reason you want to shim your studs..... The lower the rocker sits on the stud, the less the bending/flexing force there is on the stud. A stud that flexes causes loss of valve lift & loss of area...

    17" Magnum 500's

72, The reason I used the word 'weight' of air [ versus volume ] in the tyre is because weight is what changes when you inflate the tyre to different pressures. You were too dumb to pick that up....

    Cylinder #7 down on compression

I do not see much benefit doing a LD test. At least one cyl is low so at a minimum, the heads need to come off. Problem may be readily apparent: burned/leaking valve or failed head gasket. If the engine has high mileage, a ridge forms at the top of the bore where the ring travel finishes. The...

72, Your 71 Ford truck has a harsher ride..............because it has stronger springs! It is a work horse designed to carry heavy loads. Apples to oranges comparison. 17" Magnum 500's

Pal, I understand the 'physics' of suspension better than you & for longer than you have. There are some things that are just FACT. One of them is that a tyre with a very short sidewall is going to give a rougher ride because the AIR is what cushions the road shock & there is less air to...

    17" Magnum 500's

The harsh ride in my mates car has nothing to do with wheel alignment. It is because there is much less air in the tyre to absorb road irregularities.

A friend of mine has the same model GTO as me. My GTO has the original 14" wheels, but one inch wider [ now 7" ]. 235/60 section tyre. Mates car has these horrible looking 17" wheels, small section & feels every bump in the road, like & horse & cart.
