I have tried to eliminate the exhaust leak my experience is it only taps like that right off the head further down the line it's just loud. I don't want to keep tightening the manifold i'm worried i will break a stud or crack the head.

No worries, i'm no spring chicken. If it's a lifter can i just swap it out for a new one? Whats the process for a new lifter?

So they are 225/55/15's and it is a suregrip rear end. I was fortunate enough to get the actual order sheet from the original buyer.

So i just checked temps across the manifolds 1 390ish, 3&5 450's, 7 420's, 2 400, 4&6 470's, 8 380ish. Obviously it's tough with cast iron manifolds as the temps will creep throughout the entire thing but within an inch of the head that's what i was getting. Sound normal-ish? At idle not moving...

I will check manifold temps today and report back any odd findings. I haven't checked brakes yet this could be the culprit.

Trans is great was rebuilt with less then 5K on it. Timing is not stuck i just had the light on it the other day and i can watch it advance as i rev.

I totally agree. I'm just trying to nail down something i may not have looked at or considered already. I do get a little fuel vapor out of the drivers side tail pipe and excess condensation but it isn't coolant has no smell at all just condesation.
