Plymouth Valiant 61 Manual upgrade query

FYI- I just spoke to a parts vendor here in Oz... He informs me that we can indeed upgrade to an Oz later model 3 speed with all syncros from later Aussie model Valiants... So I may just go that route!

Plymouth Valiant 61 Manual upgrade query

Ahhh seems that's where I'm getting my wires crossed... I'm looking a car stateside, so you should be on the money with what you said first... So that means we both still need to try and find out what manual trans, if any will fit as.an upgrade? ...Another question I had, will a 904 Auto fit...

Plymouth Valiant 61 Manual upgrade query

Sorry, I should have specified this is in a car I'm looking to purchase... From my research they were designated "230" nomenclature, but I'm sure you know better than me!

Plymouth Valiant 61 Manual upgrade query

Hey everyone, just wondering, what is the best, recommended manual box upgrade for an existing 3 speed floor shift, in a 61 Valiant behind a slant6 without cutting/chopping any of the body? Whilst it is currently a 170, I'm also thinking to drop in a 225 at same time... Thanks Jason

Water leak in 68 Dart Coupe

Haha... Are these easy enough to replace? I wonder if I can test them by applying high pressure hose on them?

Water leak in 68 Dart Coupe

Hi all... I have discovered that I have a water leak when driving in medium/heavy rain only that seems to be coming from the top/rear of the glove compartment and dripping onto the passenger side floor - am I right in thinking this is (hopefully) the windshield rubber? The windshield is still...

    Ignition Coil firewall relocation query

Yeah okay , I plan to retain the original coil holder and fabricate something to mount off the blower motor bolt to avoid drilling any new holes in the firewall...

    Ignition Coil firewall relocation query

Thanks everyone , is someone able to confirm if I will be okay to mount directly off the blower motor bolts if in case I don't wish to delete/modify the heater core outlet tubes etc?

    Ignition Coil firewall relocation query

Are the copper heater hose outlets still in place behind your coil? It seems you have made a custom bracket, and attached it to the firewall by screwing/drilling 4 new holes in the firewall, to then attach the coil to the bracket?

    Ignition Coil firewall relocation query

You are correct - the bracket is something i fabricated myself and attached to the intake to mount it vertically VS horizontally; I was/am trying to reduce coil heat as much as possible, and create space, access to the part of the intake, hence want to mount it on the firewall now... wiring...

    Ignition Coil firewall relocation query

Hi guys, I am wanting to relocate my coil off my intake and hoping to locate on the firewall... Is it perfectly fine to use/mount off one of the blower motor bolts as per my pic? I was also thinking I could possibly fab up a special mount and attach it to the unused heater hose fittings, as I...

    Gas Mileage query Holley 318

Thanks everyone for your feedback... I am using 98 octane fuel (equivalent to US 95 I believe), and engine/heads are from around 73 vintage (I was told by seller) Cam is just a bit spec up from stock specs. Those figures are from me driving sedately at highway speeds around 50/55 mph, being...

    Gas Mileage query Holley 318

Hi all... Just did a trip in my 68 Dart coupe, very mild 318, .030 over rebuild with around 13000 miles, headers, Fresh complete overhauled Holley 650 DP, Auto w 3.23 rear - both near new rebuilds. Sitting on 55/60 mph, highway/country driving mostly, and getting approx. 13-14 miles per gallon...

318 missing and stalling once warmed up and at cruise

Undetermined at this stage... Latest is that I swapped out the resistor and coil lead and issue has disappeared for now....but, this also happened a few days ago, only for it to reappear, and today I tested braking suddenly, on incline, decline and flat ground. I can get it to stall on decline...

318 missing and stalling once warmed up and at cruise

Update... WHISTLING NOISE - I just happened to bump into an expert at the motor parts store earlier, who had a good look/listen at my Carb and said the whistling noise is literally coming from the carb internals itself, just normally sucking it's air, and it's perfectly normal... I'm curious to...

318 missing and stalling once warmed up and at cruise

Hey Bewy, thanks for your input... Vac adv is connected and I shall check that out. I will also test the throttle shaft with some oil (so far I have only tried spraying the shaft with car cleaner, which only very slightly lowers the idle when doing so, and I have tested everywhere else on the...

318 missing and stalling once warmed up and at cruise

Okay... Thanks for that, I will check it, however, seems strange that after approx 10k miles and coincidentally after the carb got refreshed that the problem surfaced... See how we go!

318 missing and stalling once warmed up and at cruise

I hear ya... But the exact same issue presents itself at the exact same time after warm up... And I bought a decent MSD coil... Didn't cheap out, so I'd have to be pretty unlucky I'd think...

318 missing and stalling once warmed up and at cruise

I think I already checked this and there wasn't, but I can fire it up, get it hot so the issue develops and have another look... Would such a problem only develop though once the engine warms up? Also, the carb has just been freshly, professionally rebuilt (doesn't mean we might not have...

318 missing and stalling once warmed up and at cruise

Funny thing, last night when the issue presented itself again with a vengeance, once I stumbled home, I pulled 1 plug and it looked good... Even the old plugs I just replaced looked good when I pulled them... Very frustrating!
