Having 2-3 shift overlap - Thinking of switching from 4.2 apply lever to 3.8 - Thoughts?

A stock one will work fine if your local guy has one. You can’t buy just the inner spring to my knowledge because the rod diameter is smaller on the dual spring compared to the single spring.

Having 2-3 shift overlap - Thinking of switching from 4.2 apply lever to 3.8 - Thoughts?

Kim, I think you’re talking more about the 1-2 overlap. The OP is talking strictly 2-3 overlap. The LBA valve body can create a little bit of 1-2 overlap, which is where the dual spring servo, and second gear lever ratio can help take care some 1-2 overlap. But the LBA valve body has no bearing...

Thanks Bill! I enjoy our conversations. And yes I left the delivery room for a moment so we could talk hahaha. But my wife wasn’t in labor at that point, just sitting there watching TV. She knew about my addiction before we got married and still chose to marry me lol.

LOL! You sure do! Happy to help, or try to at least haha. Best of luck getting it all done and I hope to hear some good news when you get back about the overlap.

Having 2-3 shift overlap - Thinking of switching from 4.2 apply lever to 3.8 - Thoughts?

Happy to help! Yes it should help some especially with the potential of 12 springs in the front clutch. Part of why you’re feeling the 2-3 overlap more is because you have a reverse manual valve body, which typically carries higher line pressure than a stock valve body. Although a stock valve...

Thanks Korie! Like the 45th President of the United States said, he isn’t the smartest person out there, but he surrounds himself by the smartest people and listens to them. I try to live life the same way.

Having 2-3 shift overlap - Thinking of switching from 4.2 apply lever to 3.8 - Thoughts?

I would not put one of those other big springs inside the original one. That can create a bind when it’s applied, then not want to fully release, and smoke the band. I don’t run the red sonnax servo but I know it’s not designed to function that way with the two big springs. And if I’m wrong, and...

    PTC converters switches hands

Something to keep in mind, there is no “magic” number on where a torque converter should flash/stall at in relation to the engines peak torque or peak horsepower. Each car and combo is different. That is why converter manufactures want SO much information when spec’ing a torque converter. If the...

    Dodge Boys cars

I believe my dad has some Kim. My dad and uncle were VERY good friends with both Alderman and Geoffrion, as hard as that might be to believe. I was lucky enough to see it with my own eyes when I turned 13 and went to a national event. I will see if my dad wants to part ways with any of his die...

Having 2-3 shift overlap - Thinking of switching from 4.2 apply lever to 3.8 - Thoughts?

I’m definitely a fan of Type F no doubt. But in a street car Dex/Merc is way to go in my opinion. It’s not an issue if you switched to Dex/Merc right now. It may not make a HUGE difference with what your experiencing but it’s not going to hurt. I didn’t realize it was mainly a street car. I...

Having 2-3 shift overlap - Thinking of switching from 4.2 apply lever to 3.8 - Thoughts?

I have gone 2 or 2 1/4 turns out for 4.2 lever after torquing to 72inch pounds. I have also gone 2 turns always for a 3.8. Is the second gear servo a dual spring setup (Early year model). What ATF are you running? If it’s Type F, it has no friction modifiers in it, so it engages the clutches...

GoDeadOn App. Tried it? Using it?

I’ll download the free one haha. I have an altronics weather predictor which I love and use habitually for data rather than prediction. I always have to remind myself that it only is basing ET predictions off weather. And as we all know, there are MANY more factors other than just weather that...

GoDeadOn App. Tried it? Using it?

I have the Dr. Dial in app, but the one you downloaded sounds much easier since it just scans the time slip. I may have to buy that one when I make it back to the track this year. I’m pretty anal about record keeping and data collection so any way to make collecting data and recording runs...

Tighter lobe sep, and little less duration than the previous one you posted, should be torquey. And probably an upgrade from your current one. Time will tell.

    Initial Torqueflite tear down findings

Gotcha. Being that you are sticking with a shift kit valve body, I would probably go 3.8 or 4.2 second gear lever if you think you have the 5.0, coupled with a late model kickdown servo (single spring 5/8” rod), heavy duty band strut, and a solid kickdown band. Just my own personal thoughts...
